I’d wager 99% of the views of the free warscrolls were when a new battletome dropped and people were looking at the new hotness, and nerfs or buffs. Functionally they were incomplete content anyway.

Uuuuhh...you realize right that the free warscrolls we lost were FULL WARSCROLLS WITH EVERY SINGLE RULE NEEDED TO PLAY THE UNIT? With sole exception of Alarielle the updated version.

You wanted some retributors in your cities of sigmar? No need to buy battletome. Everything needed right there in app and in web site.

Want some slaves to darkness models added to your khorne army? Fine. Just get the free warscroll. No need to buy battle tome.

Now? Unless the little tiny off chance that the warscrolls don't become locked like 40k in app once free beta ends you need to buy the battletome in above scenarios. Battletomes that have zero usable rule for you beside the warscrolls you need.

Hardly incomplete when they contained 100% rules you needed. There was zero rule you needed from battletome missing that you could actually use with the exception of Alarielle after the updated version. Every other unit had 100% self contained warscroll on the web site. Zero rules missing.

You’re correct, I had forgotten about how useful they might’ve been for folks who used allied/ Grand Alliance armies. Its a blow to those folks, for sure. But even that is case by case isn’t it?. In your Slaves to Darkness/Khorne example, lets say you are taking a Chaos Lord on Krakadrak in your Blades army, where on the warscroll are the “Aura of Chaos” rules, or Eye of the Gods table? You’d need the tome for that stuff.

I was coming more from the angle that they are incomplete in the sense that the warscrolls don’t include rules for Allegiance Abilities, Battle Traits, Command Traits, Artefacts, Spells + Prayers. You wouldn’t have all the rules just from the website download/App. You’d still need the battletome for all those things.

Well, a Chaos Lord on Karkadrak in a Blades of Khorne army wouldn't get Aura of Chaos or the Eye of the Gods table, since those are Slaves to Darkness Battle Traits.

Literally all you'd need was your Blades of Khorne battletome + Chaos Lord on Karkadrak warscroll and you'd be set.

Fair enough, I play neither army as it is. I always assumed because the Hero has ‘Eye of the Gods’ in his warscroll, he’d have access to the table regardless of what army he was included in. I stand corrected!

I mean, if the rules and warscrolls all end up on the app for free...then whatever, I can deal.

They are not entirely gone...

One can still access the 2nd edition warscrolls through a search engine; for example type in "Sequitors warscroll" and there should be a result for a pdf from the GW website.

I think this will have more of a negative than GW bargained for. The inconvenience isn't much as all the same content is still available for free, but people are upset about the principle of the matter. I have seen more than one person for which this was the last straw and they are bailing on AoS.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Yeah, but that'll obviously go away as soon as someone at GW notices and bothers to remove them.

The only hope at this point seems to be that scrolls will remain free in the app even after the beta, but given that GW has deliberately dodged actually saying that or telling us what will be free and what won't, it seems very unlikely.

Agreed. It was one of the more admirable things about AoS, and felt like GW was making a genuine effort to make AoS an accessible game.

Sadly true, but in the meantime if anyone feels they've missed the chance then they still have time to get them.

I've seen a lot of grumbling but havent' seen anyone actually drop AOS over this.

They've spent far too much to give up on it now.
