I also remember enjoying "Space: Above and Beyond" or whatever it was called when it was on telly, but I barely remember it now.

I sought out a DVD of S:AAB a few years back, because I wanted to watch it again after 20-years; I was expecting a cheap nostalgia trip with a wonky 90’s sci-fi show, but it actually holds up remarkably well. It’s sort of a proto-Nu-BSG and it has a surprising amount of depth and intrigue. Unfortunately, I think it was a bit ahead of its time and didn’t quite fit the zeitgeist when it was released. Given all of the reboots / reimaginings and general demand for long-form streaming series at the moment, I’m hoping someone will pick it up again. It could easily be made into the next Expanse.

Same. On all counts I think

The only weird bit is that the ace pilots are also super awesome spy/infiltrator/assault troop/garrison teams. However, it allows a wide range of military nonsense with a group of characters small enough to allow you to get to know them a bit.

They mention it in one episode IIRC - that such a unit wouldn't exist in normal peacetime.

I love the design of the fighters (SA-43 Endo/Exo-Atmospheric Attack Jet ("Hammerhead")), but love the urban legends around them more:

Full-sized mockups of the SA-43 Hammerhead were built. They were realistic enough that the Russian Intelligence got a satellite picture of one on the dock somewhere in California and had a temporary freak out.

Rey being nobody from nowhere. The dark side cave not being horrible or corrupting but just a place. TLJ had the most interesting things to say about the force than any other movie in the franchise. And it was a great jumping off point for better stories.

Too bad it got ruin by magic force bloodlines. And SW shrinks even further.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I now have a Starfury and a Viper, I wish I could find a decent Hammerhead kit to round out the trifecta of “awesome, vaguely plausible, starfighters”.

I’ve seen them on Thingiverse, so there’s always the option to print one.

Also, no Gunstar?

Yeah, this. This movie instantly came to mind as soon as I saw the thread title. All the criticism leveled at this movie can easily be applied to almost all other mcu films but for some reason dark world gets singled out.

I feel like Iron Man 3 gets pooped on more then Thor: Dark World.

I like them both more than at least a dozen of other MCU episodes that gathered higer consensus. Iron Man 3 in particular is the only Iron Man I liked.

I'd like to add The Witcher, Netflix Tv Series, to the lot of things that everyone hates. Maybe not really everyone but I've heard from a lot of people, both from friends and from the internet, that the series was a mess. First season had its flaws, but I loved it a lot, to the point that in the meantime I've read all 8 novels, which I also loved. Looking forward to watch season 2, and I might even try the videogames in the future.

A lot of people dissed on the time jumps and non-linear plot line. However, if you take those away, The Witcher is just another cheap and low fantasy series. The broken up timeline helps it transcend those low-bar conventions IMHO.

Yeah I feel you. Coming out of watching The Last Jedi for the first time, I felt like I watched half a great movie.

I really liked everything on the island and how they handled the force, basically everything you said. I just couldn't get into the space chase, or the stuff on the other planets.

I have watched way too many of these things, but the Ghost Rider one summed it up nicely for me. Having said that I foudn the actual film hugely entertaining. I just found Hulk to be dull.

Huh, I've never really followed the internet attention around it because I never played the games (though I plan to eventually) but everyone I've spoken to said they quite enjoyed it. Then again, now that I think about it, none of them were gamers; so maybe it's more of an issue with the adaptation rather than the series itself?

Jut play the 3rd game. The other 2 games suffer from older game mechanics that make them kind of suck to play in the modern day. But Witcher 3 is a fething masterpiece, and you get what went down in the other 2 when playing it.

Lol. That's pretty much my feeling on Force Awakens.
The 1st 1/2 (1/3rd)? With the exception of when Kylo has a tantrum, removes his helmet & knocks himself out of the "New badass villain" role and into the "dumbass villain" role - when they're mostly introducing new characters/places/etc & getting things rolling? I was really liking it.
And then it became an inferior re-run of New Hope. :(

I didn't much like Thor: TDW but Iron Man 3 was vastly worse imo. At least Thor: TDW had a beautiful funeral scene - I was awed in the theater.

Star Trek: Nemesis. It gets a lot of unfair hate for being too actionized (it managed to keep a core of introspection and storytelling that the reboot continuity dropped in favor of just being shallow action movies), and a lot of technobabble-y nitpicking (because obviously the movie would have been much improved if they'd gone through and listed off all the things that were offline that you think should have prevented any character deaths), but I thought everything about it was supremely well-executed.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I really liked Nemesis too, I thought the clone/mirror angle was really cool. It's actually probably my third favorite Trek Movie. 1. First Contact. 2. Wrath of Khan, 3. Nemesis.

So I did! I got the scale a bit wrong though. The Hammerhead should be about twice the length of the IFV. Printed fine though, so I'll tweak the scale and go for another shot.
