A Protoss colony world

I'm wondering if there are still going to be some missions with the primary being "Hold 2/Hold 3/Hold More", or if all of them are now going to be 1/2/More.

Either way, this is going to have a massive impact on the competitive meta, almost as earth-shaking as a new edition. Do we have any info at all on when CA2022 is going to be released with these changes?

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 7 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

Hold 2/3 is a bitch when you're down. Hold 1/2 is easier to come back from a bad initial start.

Not that it should necessarily go that way, but that's just a minor observation.

CA should be out in Jan, I think.

Aye, I'd've guessed January as well.

I'm worried this will make armies with good codex specific secondaries even stronger. Oath of the moment's easy 15 points look even better now the primary objectives score less.

It doesn't, because you can only take one book secondary and now you have a gap to fill. Marines get away with two, because of sub factions, but oath isn't actually egregious.

Depends really.,

In some missions, where the "bonus-primary-formerly-known-as-mission-secondary" is fairly easy, primary actually becomes less troublesome.

The Nu-Priority-Target allows you to score: 11-11-11-11 from your deployment zone for a 44, making the swing for a hold-more at least once for a 45 less relevant. Of course, you lose the easy 15 of Priority Target as a Secondary.

Do note that the opponent now chooses which objective is your priority.

Good - some of us have unfinished business there.

Goonhammer has the rest of the secondaries.

Engage, Bring it Down, Teleport Homers, and ROD with the biggest changes.

Interrogate no longer requires LOS - WOO!

Also what happens when the player doesn't have/didn't bring the models in the list the TO created? I typically only build/paint the models I use in one of my lists, especially for armies I'm taking to tournaments. I would also be concerned if a TO knows certain people playing in the tournament or has an axe to grind against anyone playing.

The way I read it the TOs basically take your list and then dumb it down to make it less powerful. Not a format I am at all interested in and I doubt would gain ground in the competitive scene.

If you're going to do TO-built lists, they really should just put together a list per 'dex - maybe a couple, if they have time - that are on a similar level of power overall, and if people wish to attend they need to build those lists.

Might mean that you end up with "weak" lists from the top tier books, while whatever is at the bottom of the heap is using close to full power, but it would remove the list-building element and keep things focused on what a player can do with the army at hand.

Unlikely to ever happen, but it'd be interesting, if only as an exhibition event.

The lists would be made from your collection.

Well. That ain't worry since there isn't competive 40k to begin with ;D To have competive X the X needs to be actually be done competively.

Sleeping can be done more competively than 40k...You literally cannot come up with less competive thing than GW games.

GW is happy to encourage idea of competive 40k though since it allows exploiting of customers big time. Basically it's just exploit tool for GW.

"I only own this 2000pt meta list" seems like a very easy way to get around "We make a weird off-meta list for you from your collection" but it's a nice idea I guess.

Do all of you realise that the 'TO picked armies' was for the exhibition part of the tournament only?

The competitive tournament was completely self picked.

People wanted more mission variety and this seems a step in that direction.

Harder to discuss how it might shake up the meta without knowing if they are going to include say points changes. In a perfect world I'd say there would be joined up thinking here (i.e. if you are going to nerf character ability to get VP, you should probably look at buffing the ones who aren't walking murder machines) - but I wouldn't expect it.

I'm pretty sure that's representative of tneva's actual opinion of the tournament scene.
