That one ground battle scene from "Solo" was the most Imperial Guard moment I've ever seen in a cinematic movie.

Starship Troopers says hi, (the film, kinda of glad they didn't go with the books suits as 90s sfx unlikely to cope with basically Aggressors with jump packs)

"AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME...SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED."

Nothing else really comes to mind as "inspired by", but when I tried to introduce my wife to the mood of 40K, I showed her Event Horizon, Starship Troopers, Chronicles of Riddick for the overall grimdark feel, Dune (Lynch and series, this was some years ago, but Villeneuve version is also a good mood setter), Dredd (the one with Urban) as a Necromunda movie, Aliens as Space Hulk (she got first hooked to 40k via Space Hulk card game) and Pandorum as a follow up to Event Horizon and Aliens. Then Predator is really a movie about a Striking Scorpion exarch vs Sly Marbo (there is only a slight casting mistake there ).

There's one called "Priest" I saw a few years back - Karl Urban was in it. Theocratic dictatorship, hive cities and "vampires" that suspiciously resemble Genestealers

I remember that film! If I recall there really was a strong inquisitor vibe to it. Might have to give it a rewatch!

I thought this scene had heavy 40k vibes:

Coudl've easily been a ritual on a Chaos planet.

I cant help feeling it would work just as well as an imperial ritual - the grim dark works bothways

Wasn't Dune one of the big original influences on 40k? The student has become the master! X-D

Event Horizon now that was a damn good movie and I can see how it could be set in the very early days of the Human Federation just as humanity is taking it's first steps into the galaxy and all that could go so very wrong with that.

All though I can not confirm this I have heard it said that there was a lot of cut content from the movie that was so extreme that it had to be removed from the movie and that the cut content that was on film was damaged/lost from being stored in an old salt mine and that the said cut content was of the crew losing their minds after going through the *warp.*

" For every Guardsmen lost a trillion more will take his place and deliver the Emperor's wrath upon the scum of the galaxy, be it heretic, xenos or the dirty traitors to humanity. "
