I liked the old grenades with their abstract effect against cover or as defensive measure. Turning them into just a mostly useless and fiddly shooting attack was sad.
Also being able to fire from a Rhino is something I miss and don't even understand why it's gone.
Other than that I overall prefer 8th + to prior editions, most aspects like
AP, psychic phase, wound allocation,
WS, movement are just so much more reasonable to use that it makes you wonder why they didn't do it like that all along.
Presumably, the trouble here is that flamers are useless against single models when these are in a group and so not alone on the battlefield so that the template might cover them, alone, without also touching other models. This is the thing about flame weapons, generally - they are designed to do that. So, they should NOT be able to single out single models from a group when all bunched together, ...

And those are huge machines, representing the physical reality that even flame weapons cannot disperse over huger areas without losing effectiveness... in the case of biological infantry, especially, there is the issue of flamer fuel lighting clothing and equipment on fire, thereby burning flesh sort of indirectly, and thus there being no such dynamic to represent.
