It has been a while so I may be remembering incorrectly, but I recall there was a bit of question if the original cast would return for the first revival due to financial questions. I wouldn't be surprised if they all took a pay cut or worked for less than desired the first time and John DiMaggio might not feel like doing that this time. I know the Comedy Central deal was less than the Fox deal and I can't imagine the Hulu deal is paying better than the other two. If they don't pay up they may find themselves failing due to fan outrage before the series even begins.

Even high end voice actors are still voice actors, so if they’re not willing to meet his price, it shows a cheapness that doesn’t bode well.

??
You think MTV/Viacom/Paramount (the melange of name changes that owns CC) has more money than Disney+Comcast (the owners of Hulu)?

I don't think it is an issue of how much money a studio has, it is how much they are willing to spend. I mean Fox owned both the Simpsons and Futurama at the same time and there is no way both shows were operating with the same budget. And just because Disney owns Hulu doesn't mean Hulu has an unlimited budget for programming. In the end it will be a situation of how much money the studio thinks the show will bring in and base the budget off of that. There are few businesses that willingly go into projects to lose money and I doubt Hulu is one of them. They are probably going to produce this as cheaply as possible since I doubt it will drive many new viewers to their platform.

Thinking about it I wouldn't be too surprised if the idea behind this was to put the IP back into the public consciousness and try to milk it with merchandising to make their money. Like Yogurt says, "merchandising, where the real money is made". Studios are looking for anything with a fanbase they can lure in with nostalgia and it looks like its Futuramas turn. Again.

Also don't forget that whilst each contract is its own thing, the show isn't about Bender. It's not "The Bender Show" and as a result he's only one of a selection of core characters.

So there's going to be an upper limit on how much they can pay him before the other core character VA will also want a pay rise as well.

and nothing kills a show faster than some of the stars finding other stars are getting (substantially) more than them so if he gets more the rest will need to get it too

To be fair, John Dimaggio and Billy West both voice a gak load of characters on the show both major and minor. It's really only Leela's voice actor that does a single character. It's fair to pay people who have to do multiple characters more money.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Multiple sources (including his Twitter) reporting they've reached an agreement with John DiMaggio.

It’s kind of sad-funny that they are going through all this trouble for a show that will almost certainly be a dud.

Honestly, contract negotiations are pretty normal. They were just dumb enough to do the announcement before getting everyone signed on (which gave Dimaggio more negotiating strength)

Not quite as dumb as the people who announced a new Kelvin-timeline Star Trek film without apparently getting the major cast on board first - that's likely to be a pricey mistake...

The Kelvin-Cast are still under contract to do more films (it's a 5 or 6 movie deal IIRC), but nobody warned them the next one was starting this year (6 years after the last).
