- 5k of Krieg
- 8k of Eldar
- 4k of Deathwatch
- 4k of my custom heretic knight household/marine legion
- A few bits and bobs (Thousand sons, Harlequins, Imperial Fists)
I don't play anymore; the game needs to be burned to the ground to make way for a new dice mechanic and universal rules before I come back. Have fully moved over to Infinity, and the comparison is not kind to 40k.

Hm,
On the point about number of armies: I tend to think of that as “factions you play” not “number of lists you can put on the table”
Because I can put down a lot of Ultras.
That’s a nice looking ultramarines army. And you certainly can field a lot of them. Then allow me to clarify. I currently have space marines, imperial guard, grey knights, Inquisition and orks. I honestly havn’t kept up with the rules for inquisition so not sure if it’s viable anymore.
Didn’t mean to call you out, just your post made me think about how people define “having an army”
I don’t write up a list and collect/paint the models to field it, and call it a day. But I know some people do have that philosophy. For them having multiple armies in their collection despite being the same faction, is how they count.
While I’ll sometimes pick up models to fill a niche in a list I have in mind (I needed more drop pods for a null deploy list for example) I normally just buy and paint stuff that interests me and add it to the shelf. When it comes time to put a list together, I figure out what I am in the mood for and pull the units down.
Neither way of counting is wrong, just a different point of view.

That's not a 40k specific problem. It's just how minis games work in general.
Though you could make the case that the balance extremes are more pronounced in GWs games than in others.
True, it is not a 40k specific problem, but with each edition the swinginess of it all becomes ever greater which makes me always more and more grateful(as weird as it sounds) that I don't have just one army to fall back on. Personally I feel that this escalating power curve started with 6th edition and has been increasing frequently with each new iteration.
GW just feels like my ADHD. They get a new idea and then they run with it without thinking about the consequences, and then later they try to patch it up before getting another idea and running with it again.

I have Thousand sons, CSM, elder and tzeentch daemons. TS is my favorite and I just got back into elder as I sold my last elder army in 7th. I like having armies that play differently. I usually play one exclusively for a few months then switch, especially when a new book drops. Will probably play elder until CSM comes out then play CSM until daemons come out.

I own seven armies: Space Wolves, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Imperial Guard, Orks, Necrons, Ultramarines. Each army well over 2000 in points; four armies completely painted, and the remaining three at least assembled, primed, and in various states of painting.
Most of my gaming is focused on Blood Bowl these days but I still enjoy painting 40k models (mostly OOP metal figures). I play a handful of 40k games each year but not with the current ruleset. I play the new Apocalypse, older editions (3rd, 4th, and 5th), and OnePageRules; no more money to GW for 40k rulebooks.

2 and a bit at the moment.
Probably 3500 points of World Eater CSMs and a few daemons to go with them.
About 1850-2000 points of Drukhari
The SM half of Indomitus, plus a Gladiator tank, that I'm painting as Salamanders. Were going to be for my youngest son, but he's not really interested.
And I will totally be getting the Squats when they come out.
Then there's other stuff to distract me - Kill Team, Necromunda, old Hero Quest and Space Crusade...
How often do I play? Not nearly enough. Not sure I've had as many as half a dozen games of 9th edition yet.

1) Orks, I'm not even sure how many points. I own most units in the codex at least once and can play any archetype possible. The only plastic kits I don't have are the stompa and the kill rig (but I'm currently getting an alternative model printed). 2) Death Guard, I guess 4-5k points, also own everything but possessed at least once or twice. I usually play one army till it's no longer fun to do so and then switch to the other one for a longer period of time. I agree with Karol that owning a second army goes into great lengths of making 40k more fun to play, especially if they differ as much as DG and orks do.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

I've got painter armies for Black Templars, Carcharodons, Aeldari, Necron & Tau. I've also got all of the models I need for a Sisters army, as my next project.
I've not played 09th Ed., or, in fact, any 40k at all in about 4 years.

I currently play the following armies:
a. Dark Angels - I've been playing them since 2nd Ed with about 6K. I've taken them to six local tourneys in 9th and play them about three times a month (when lockdowns are lifted)
b. Imperial Guard - I've been playing them since 3rd, although I started collecting them in 2nd. They don't see much tabletop time right now
c. Necrons - I am an Indomintus Necron with about 2.5K. I took them to two local tourneys and play them every now and then to keep things fresh
Other armies that I have but aren't seeing any table in 9th (does this count as entry-level hoarding?):
a. Dark Eldar - I had these guys from 3rd Ed. Reworked them in 8th as an OPFOR army for basement hammer. Haven't played them in 9th
b. Orks - I had them initially as my OPFOR army in 2nd but built them up in 5th. Haven't touched them in years
c. Tyranids - I built these with my son in 4th/5th but haven't played them since then.
I tend to have one primary army at a time with a secondary/OPFOR one to keep things fresh. It is good to have an alternate army if you are facing a mirror match.

Lets see, I own:
-Astra Militarum (Vostroyans)
-Astra Militarum (Death Korps of Krieg)
-Astra Militarum (Elysians)
-Militarum Tempestus
-Space Marines (Primaris only)
-Adeptus Custodes
-Sisters of Battle
-Adeptus Mechanicus
-Imperial Knights
-Misc. other Imperium (Rogue Traders, Inquisition, Assassins, etc.)
-Chaos Space Marines
-Thousand Sons
-Death Guard
-Chaos Knights
-Daemons (enough to do multiple 2000 pt lists of each god simultaneously, so many daemons, more than I will ever need)
-Craftworlds
-Drukhari (Kabals and Covens, don't really have much for Haemonculus Cults)
-Harlequins
-Technically Ynnari by default
-Genestealer Cults
-Tyranids
-Necrons
-Orks
-Tau
So pretty much every faction except Grey Knights and certain specialist Space Marine chapters. Easily have 3-5k+ pts of each of the above, minimum, some of them i easily have a few ten thousands of points of. I've played a handful of games with Tempestus so far this edition, will be transitioning over to playing Thousand Sons shortly as I finish up some odds and ends for my army list, and then I'm going to start working on getting my Tyranids, Chaos Knights, and Harlequins ready to go.

More then most, which makes it funny when people say women only get into this hobby for social media. No amount of money from YT will help me financially recover from this dumb hobby.
- 10kish points of nids. Have to re-inventory thanks to new codex.
- 2-2.5k of GSC. Have to double check thanks to new codex
- 7-8k points of Primaris. Maybe. I think more now but I refuse to admit I have more Primaris then Nids in my house.
- 1.7k of Custodes. Have to eventually get that to 2k.
- 2k of sisters
- 7k of Orks
- 2.5k of Night Lords
- 2k of Tau
- a single Castellan
- Some guard that went with GSC. Which reminds me I now need to separate the 2 and figure that out because they split.
I feel like I'm missing an army or 2 but I can't think of them at the moment. I don't have and chaos demons, necrons or pointy ears. So whatever else is there besides that. I honestly took a break from collecting armies to collect terrain. Put about $500 into it within the last 2 weeks. It's coming along nicely.
