The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

Upstate, New York

I remember having a discussion of primaris LotD a while back. (which feels odd to say, as the still read as “new” to me, but we’ve had them for a while now). There are a number of theories about what/who the LotD are, and many of the are compatible with the legion.

Are they marines lost to the warp? That can happen to the new guys.
Are they psudo-psychic manifestations caused by those in need a/o the Emperor? Why not new, bigger forms.
Spirits of the dead? Always more marines of all types joining those ranks.
Lost chapter still fighting despite being warped? Less open, but still posable with the right story.

I’m not up on all the modern lore, but they have been quiet for a bit now. GW might be slowly letting them fade out of the game. Which is a bit sad, as they were cool. But honestly, could come back at any time and it would be in character and easy to do. They just need a new kit, an WD with them, and to use the Agent of the Imperium hook to let you include a squad in your army.

That's one of the reasons GW rolled the clock back in 9th edition. To the end of the 1st phase of the Indomitus Crusade rather than the end of the Crusade. Though it does seem weird now that Primaris are still present in basically every chapter, which implies they already pushed through the Great Rift and delivered the Primaris to every chapter stuck in the Imperium Nihilus.

GW never misses a chance to sell more Space Marines. So you can be sure at some point Primaris Legion of the Damned will come out of thin air. Quite fitting, actually .

Crossing the Cicatrix Maledicum is incredibly dangerous. Except when doing so needs to be handwaved for the plot. Don't worry about the narrative - just Forge The Narrative™.

So in "The Darkness of the Blood", I'm not sure I understand what actually happened.

Spoiler:
Do you literally DIE when crossing the Rubicon Primaris? Because it says When he's looking down at himself, his Body died

I believe that your body is totally deconstructed and rebuilt so probably there is a period of being dead before resuscitation

If only the dude who wrote said 'holy' doctrine and tactics was still around. Maybe then he would update them for primaris, eh?

A better canonical explanation for why everyone hasn't crossed the Rubicon yet isn't that it's "dangerous", it's just that both undergoing the procedure and getting used to your new body would take a significant amount of time and leave the marine in question out of action for the period, and with the Imperium actively falling apart many chapters simply can't afford to have their high ranking officers unavailable for the time required.

Considering they literally have to kill the person to do it (Deactivate their hearts and shut down the brain) before implantation of the Furnace and the other parts, it's fairly dangerous to undergo. Even with all Meph's power, it still took a literal miracle and the intervention of a "god"/Angel/Thing for him to actually come back to life. Imagine if they did it to Dante and he didn't make it, then who becomes Regent of Nihilus? Seth? Mephiston? Corbulo? /s

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

Dante dying crossing the Rubricon will be how they bring back Sanginius. The Sanguinor will possess him and bring him back as a merged Dante-Sangunius, the Angel Reborn.

Totally a GW move.

F that Vegito crap. I'd rather he just die. His character arc is somewhat "Tired", pun intended. Then we could have a new actually interesting character. Seth at this point is more interesting. Dante is just one big I'm OLD AND TIRED OF MAKING DECISIONS sign. Mephiston was kinda interesting until they made him the BA version of Malkador. "Cursed with the terrible fate" thing. No, I'd rather see the Lion come back, and Vulkan, and have them slaughter Angron in an epic Battle. BAs need better than a primaris Librarian and a slightly more powerful Assault Marine Captain with Jump Pack and power axe.
