Finally finished my range of 2nd Ed generic Librarians:

Here's the catalogue page from the 2nd ed Ultramarine Codex again:
Spoiler:

I also just finished some Banshees from the same era for my slowly expanding Eldar army. Friggin love these models, especially the Exarch.

Next on the plate is some Dire Avengers, again ye-olde metals.

And speaking of old! I picked up a very rare model that was one of my "White Whales"! 1987, I believe. Forms a new category, which is Old Enough To Be President (35 years).

Wow, I love the colors on the librarians. Relictors? What was your painting process?

That old enough to be president model is wild, what is it supposed to be originally? It looks like it shares a lot of design cues with the Mechanicum Thallax. The helmet visor shape, sort of jetback situation, the gun shape and the chain bayonet. I guess it's just a wild sort of early space marine?

The Polito form is dead, insect. Are you afraid? What is it you fear? The end of your trivial existence?

I'll have to get a picture of 3rd Company, Iron Defenders Chapter.

The youngest models are from the 3rd ed. boxed set. Everyone else would be at least 24.

Want a better way to do fantasy/historical miniatures battles?  Try Conqueror: Fields of Victory.

Do you like Star Wars but find the prequels and sequels disappointing?  Man of Destiny is the book series for you.

Some great stuff in this thread. Awesome job on those marines Insectum.

I've just finished a metal Blood Axe Army. This is my favourite unit.

^Oooh, PaddyMick, that particular model practically gives me ptsd. The number of Terminators and Dreadnoughts I lost to those in 2nd . . .

Not Relictors, just my own chapter/scheme. I basically always play them as Ultramarines. Because they're white, I jokingly call them Vanilla Marines.

As for painting, Prime white, blackline, clean with white, paint chapter badge and markings in black, dirty wash (mix of black and brown wash), then white to spot-clean/blend/highlight. Then the rest of the details. It sucks as a process but I love the output. It takes forever.

Yeah it's just some "Power Armored Trooper", more or less. Possibly an alternate style of Space Marine? It's got the chainsaw bayonet the Marines often had in those days. To me it seems like a more sci-fi take on power armor, rather than the more knights-inspired beakie. The rounded armor, ball joints and cables make me think of the covers of classic military sci-fi novels. I love it.

Old enough to drink? Time for Lady’s Night at the bar.

These are the old metal SoB I painted for my friend that formed the core of his army. (He also grabbed a number of previously painted gals from ebay) Paint on most of them also dates back many editions, but some might be newer then 21 years.

@Nevelon: I definitely have a soft spot for those metal Sisters. I did a comission army of them back in the early '00s and it was a nice army.

@KidCthulu: I was never into fantasy so I don't remember the ninjas. Sweet models and nice paint jobs though! And what were those little Eldar things called? I want to say Spirit Walkers?

Probably picked the early guys in the mid/late 80s?

Hey man, they're still painted! Painted counts for a lot, even if it's not your finest work!

Any idea if the "goofy" gobbos is something that came from GW itself or is the cartoon-goblin thing from something earlier? I have a 1990 or 91 catalogue with a bunch of the early ork stuff, like Madboyz and such, and all the character in those early-years orks and gretchin lines is so amazing. I'm just wondering what the history of that is. I find it unique, but I'm not well versed in the fantasy line, or the source material it might be drawing from. Made for some really fantastic models though.

Eldar Ghost Warriors.

The ones with the flamers are Executioner Class Drones and the one with the Shuriken Catapult is an Assassin Class Drone.

@Kid_yoto: Aw yeah! Metal Guardsmen are awesome. But your first pic reminds me that I've got about 40 of the ancient plastic Guardsmen in a box somewhere. In a box next to it should be about 40 of the ancient plastic Squats too! I'll have to figure out where that stuff is. . .

@KidCthulhu: "Ghost Warriors", nice. It's be cool to see those brought back. "Dying Race" and all. Wraithguard are cool and all, but sneaky little Eldar kill-drones is a great concept.

They were back-line scouts, harrying the objectives, IIRC.
