I’ll be honoured to compete against the original. I’ll get beat but I’ll be honoured. I might even throw in another one just to do three against three. And there was me thinking I was done and ready for photos!

In a vain attempt to beat Mr Lovejoy at his own game (fat chance) I’m throwing one of his own best miniatures at it. (Three of them in fact in my opinion!)

This making the third of my Oathsworn trio for this months entry.
As always, Lovejoy I’m really looking forward to seeing your work.

Whoa! Anthopomorphic Death Battles! Not what I expected this month.

I finished a couple more samurai:

Taking me to four in the set:

There are a couple more unpainted that I may or may not get finished by the end of the month. I'll put up a final post when I decide which to enter.

More photos here, if you're interested.

Now showing a Harlequin Dreadnought!

Painting total as of 4/25/2024: 33 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

Mostly, on my phone.

I made/ modified/kitbashed more SnazzMarines

I have modified them a bit from the previous incarnation, and now there's 4 of them. Tsk.
And the heroes:

The heroes are kitbashed the other way around, as it were: AoS bodies, SM arms etc (mostly). The chaplain, just out of shot, is still very WIP.
Now I just need to get some paint on them...

Bit of a late entry but nothing to me says snazzy like a Landsknecht style wizard based on Freddie Mercury.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I've got mine finished early! Three Burrows & Badgers pirates; two shrews and a black rat. I've snazzed them up as best as I can.

REVISED - Because I was in two minds about adding to the entry, since the coat's the big deal I'm proud of, but I forgot to put the iridescent medium on Jo's armour so I guess she wasn't technically finished, I did end up finishing one of the other minis I had in the proof photo, and since there was that extra day added...

So here (again) is Sister Josefa Gloriosa Immaculata (and her amazing technicolour nightmare coat), now joined by Brother Carvajal and his Rapturous Shield:

And some more angles (previously spoilers just so as not to clutter up the place, now spoilered because again I've wound up painting somebody naked):
Spoiler:

Her thing is specifically targeting banner bearers (obviously), who she convinces to surrender their battle standards by plugging her heart into theirs and pumping them full of her blood, which is a horrific cocktail of warp energy and hallucinogens; she genuinely believes she's never murdered anyone, just granted assisted deaths when asked. The patches are (or are supposed to be) Marines Errant, Death Company, White Scars, Ulthwé, Genestealer cult, Evil Sunz, Ultramarines, Iron Warriors, some random Chaplain, Nurgle, 53rd Regiment dreadnought, 8th Regiment 'The Spiders', Blood Angels, 7th Regiment 'Lucky Sevens', Harlequin High Avatar, Kabal of the Black Heart, Ogryn sergeant, Red Scorpions, Rogue Trader Ecale, Iron Bull Company, Raptor Legion (and a couple of patches that are just random colours, because they're too small and/or my brush wouldn't fit into the space). She's a fan of early 40k, clearly (except for the Black Heart, that's just because something about Vect ticks me off).

And as for Brother Carvajal, he's OG Emperor's Children - then-Novice Carvajal was selected for the honour of accompanying Fulgrim's party (just in case one of the officers needed something menial done, but it was still a big deal for the kid) when he went for his fateful meeting with Horus; he wasn't actually in the room, but he was still one of the first to receive the New Truth from the boss thereafter, and he's been Slaaneshing it up ever since (still with his original chestplate, so I didn't have to go to all the hassle of filing off the wings). His Rapturous Shield is impregnable (pardon the pun) so long as the cultist chosen before battle to 'bless' it maintains his, her, or their faith in Slaanesh (i.e. is having a happy moment) - being just mundane cultists they often lose focus when shells start flying, resulting in them being no longer invulnerable and getting blown to pieces, but Carvajal (who's fine, he's got armour) believes it's important to give young go-getters a chance to prove themselves, even if it's a tall order to make it through a battle.

Here’s my completed entry of three of the snazziest miniatures I own.

The Cat, the Rat and the Fox.

Each with oodles of style and undeniably snazzy in their own right. What a trio of classy characters from Oathsworn’s Burrows & Badgers range.

Cheers Lovejoy. My head-cannon is that he’s nicked the snazzy coat and hat off a fancy navy fella to fool unsuspecting merchant ships into getting too close to get away without handing over their booty.

I do have one of the motley shrews but I felt like the fox huntress in her red-leather armour was the snazzier option.

And the cat… we’ll snazzy is clearly his primary weapon.

Loved your pirate crew. Wonderful striping and unifying themes across all three. The leather looks super real! Super snazzy painting as always.

Calling him done.

Compared to most of my utilitarian Ultras, he’s pretty snazzy. Sporting top of the line wargear, ceremonial sword, honors, trinkets, grenades, etc. he’s ready to hit the battlefield in style.

I missed my chance at the limited edition plasma/fist captain, so needed to build my own. Based on the Bladeguard Vet kit, with some help from the assault intercessors, UM accessory sprue, and aggressors. The BGV kit takes gravis/TDA pads, while intercessors use the normal ones. I don’t have a lot of terminator pads kicking around but was able to snag fancy one from the agressors. The power fist from the assault intercessor kit could take a normal UM pad (which I’m running out of; need more)
I normally dislike the transverse crests, preferring the in-line ones. But with the raised rims on both shoulders, that was just too much paralleling going on. The cross crest matches with the iron halo, so works out IMHO.
I love the way the pose with the pistol turned out. Someone is about to eat hot plasma, and the way he’s braced there might be some recoil involved. Probably overcharging it.

Most of the time I look at the Pile of Shame and think how all their potential awesomeness is about to be actualized into mediocrity by my paintjob. But I think I did a reasonable job here.

Month is starting to wind down. Don’t forget to get those layers down!

Rivals Panel: Doctor Octopus vs Spider-Man:

I'm very happy with the finished results, not going to lie.

Doc Ock:

I've added an extra barrel to the base to match the one I added to my core set Doc Ock; I've also been playing with Dirty Down Rust which really is Nurgle's blessings in a bottle.
And what would he be without his nemesis, the Spectacular Spider-Man?!

And a couple of quick snaps of the display base on its own, with extra bases as inserts so its usable as terrain:

Spoiler:

I've added a few extras: filling the backs of the columns, and then some extra detailing (column tops, chains, more electrics) so the reverse feels as complete as the front and I can justify it on tabletop as terrain.

(In a spoiler block as that would be a 6th photo!)
Again, Dirty Down Rust was used on the metals to varying degrees. I am very pleased with it overall, and think it ticks the snazzy box

Finally had a bit of time to do some painting. Going to be unambitious and try and get a single, solitary model painted in what little there is left of the month.

Ugh, running out of time and realizing how hard some of the weird Rogue Trader sculpting is to paint. I'm hoping to finish one of them but I'm not 100% happy with how he's coming out...

Genestealer Magus complete!

I led the game design of the Magic the Gathering Warhammer 40,000 Commander product. I was particularly pleased that we were allowed to introduce a new character, Magus Lucea Kane, into the Warhammer 40,000 universe with a new Magic card. I based my color scheme for my magus miniature on Bartek Fedyczak's original illustration for the card.

^ This is awesome on so many levels. Love the ride, too, and the fact that you're not only a WotC designer but got to bring your own character in is a little bit of genius.

Not massively happy with him but he's done and looks fine from a distance.
