Some really cool stuff going on here Barry! The dragons and dragon-ogres are super cool, hopefully you can get them in to your daemon armies for some games.

As for your earlier question about selling stuff. I get the vibe that you like a bit of variety in your work. So I’d say keep hold of your older armies to throw in a bit of variety. I think you said you regretted getting rid of your old Tyranids, so there’s another reason.

Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks Gobert, that's really helped. That and i guess If I keep hold of them it can always be an option later on.

SO, got a pretty decent amount of painting done over the last week but have mainly been trying to get some Solo test games in just to get a handle on the rules. Has been quite enjoyable even solo and has reminded me of the aspects of the games that i have missed, for example playing B.O.C vs S.T.E I thought at turn 2 i knew exactly how the rest of the game was going to play out (to the extent i almost called it (because whats the point if its 1 sided))), and then essentially the opposite happened. B.O.C were winning decisively and then a couple of surprising rounds (including the incredible toughness of Retributors) and Bam, Stormcast victory by 1 point (STE:12, BOC:11). Reminded me of some of the best qualities these games can teach you as well as being open to being surprised, if you keep going have no idea what might surprise you.
Plan is to book my first proper game next week which is both really exciting and kinda nerve wracking. One of the reasons i wanted to get back into the hobby was to get out of my comfort zone, have some new experiences and start meeting new and different people again through the hobby (but that's always been nerve wracking for me). Either way, some pics from the battle rep below as well as some of the "finished" (for now) STE and BOC models.

Picture of the start of the 3rd battle round, BOC set up turn 1 in ambush so popped up everywhere 9" from the only STE not in deepstrike, the Judicators and on all the objectives. Judicators got smashed a bit but then liberators and retributors deep strike in, liberators taking heavy losses and retributors holding back to protect the lord Relictor + killing the beast lord (if either side kills all enemy heroes its 3 victory points) as the Judicators riddle the Bray Shamen with Storm Arrows smashing him in a turn. awesome 2nd turn onwards.

(Judicator champion holding out against 20x Gors solo for 2 turns with some of the luckiest and unluckiest dice rolling possible. Dude needs a marker or something because that was awesome to play)

(Retributors absolutely demolishing a herd of Gors in a turn)

(Bestigors laying low the Lord-Relictor, avenging the killing of their beastlord (but not before bathing in lighting for the last 3 rounds)

Obs some WIPs in there for the Judicators and Retributors but had to get some pics after their amazing performance

Bray shamen, bit underwhelming in the game TBH but quite fun to paint. Originally had a metal vulture head on this guy but would not stop breaking so decided to shadow it out as a temporary measure, but then grew kind of fond of it.

Bestigors were great, forgot half their rules half the time so sure next time i get them out they will do even better

Thanks for looking guys, comments and feedback much appreciated

Really love that brayshaman man. Can definitely see where you were going with the vulture head, but when I first saw the empty hood I went "oh that's awesome, he's converted a beastman changeling" - so definitely still getting Chaos/Tzeentch vibes from it!

That Dragon Ogre army is a thing of beauty too. That Cave Troll Shaggoth is an inspired conversion, and the OG metal minis give me big nostalgia shivers.

I used to love a few solo games too to keep in practice. Great to see tupperware terrain and whatever's around being used to good effect!

I don't think I've played my own BoC since before AoS 2.0, but I do remember loving dropping Bestigors on people from all over the map, so glad that is still a thing!

Thanks Tzurk much appreciated. Really happy with how the Shaggoth turned out and always makes me happy to be able to play it. such a shame there isn't more variation for the dragon ogre models considering you can run an all dragon ogre BOC list. Hope they will release another plastic kit for them at some point, hopefully with a decent amount of options available. (tough to transport these heavy metal minis though (tried magnetizing but waaay too heavy, gotta stick to lots of foam and hoping for the best))

TBF the Brayshamen has grown on me a bit model wise but funnily enough I now don't like him as much because of how he plays on the table top , have not been able to get him to really achieve anything so far with either his special abilities or general magics apart from get shot to pieces or suicided via trying to conduct blood rituals, will continue trying but hes out of my list for Monday for now.

Thanks Gobert, again think you guys have swayed me on the model but now i've just got to get a handle on how to make the most of him of the table

Right small update then mid sized update.

got some progress done on my STE 1000 points list.

5x Judicators, just bases to go now for how far i want to take them. Going to add a marking on the base for the champion who stood against 20x Gors single handedly for 3 turns as well, gotta have some recognition for that amazing feat )

aaaand a Lord Aquilor

Still plenty to do on him, re-highlight armour, highlight feathers, highlighting the blacks on the beak and hooves and obvs finishing the base, maybe with some trophy's as well? (we'll see)

Mid/big update for me, 1000 Points of Beastmen! ready for my first game in the new edition (and in maybe 5 years))

List: Beasts of Chaos: Subfaction: Allherd
Grand Strategy: Flanking Warherd, Triumph: Bloodthirsty

LEADERS
Beastlord (145) - General
- Command Traits: Rotfray Plaguepelt: D3 mortal wounds end of Combat phase
- Artefacts of Power: Brayblast Trumpet: (Once per battle summon 1 unit of 10Gors, 10ungors or 10ungor raiders to the battlefield)
BATTLELINE
Gors x20 (220):
- Brayhorn Blower (+1 to run and charge rolls for this unit)
- Champion (+1 attack)
- Hacking Blade and Beastshield (4+ save)
Bestigors x20 (400):
- Brayhorn Blower (+1 to run and charge rolls for this unit)
- Champion (+1 attack)
- Hacking Blade and Beastshield (4+ save)
Gors x10 (110)
- Brayhorn Blower (+1 to run and charge rolls for this unit)
- Champion (+1 attack)
- Hacking Blade and Beastshield (4+ save)
Chaos Warhounds x10 (110)
TOTAL POINTS: 985/1000

Really looking forward to playing someone new and against a new army. Will be going up against 1000 points Lizardmen with another player new to the game so should be great.

Last bits painted today. Just had a couple of units that were tabletop ready but just wanted to give them a last little boost before playing tomorrow.

Chaos Warhounds
before

After

With these they were imo playable but i mainly used these as test models for techniques many moons ago so just wanted to get a bit more variation in the unit and add a couple of highlights and details here and there. Happy with them for now but wouldn't be surprised if i revisited them again at some point in the mid to near future just to make them pop a bit more.

I also got the base-coats done on a few Ungors that might see some action tomorrow. Not a massive fan of Ungors tbh and if they hadn't been thrown in with the job lot when i bought this army i probably wouldn't have any. That said, there is a strong possibility i could use them tomorrow (summoning additional units) so if they were going to see tabletop action i at least wanted them to be base-coated

Will of course take pics of the game tomorrow + hoping to get some more done on the lord Aquilor so maybe a mid week update, but for now,
Thanks for looking and comments and feedback always appreciated
Thanks

1st Battle report: 1000points Seraphon vs Beasts of chaos:

Bray shamen has had a vision to spread the beastchange curse to a local city of sigmar, desocrating the water supply at a previously sacked town and desocrating the monuments for the dark gods is the first step.

Seraphon peering into the future see that allowing the beastmen to cause this change now will lead to a great brayherd amassing in the area and later attacking and destabilising the geomantic web.

Seraphon assemble a mighty battleforce lead by a scar veteran to wipe out the forsawn host but no beastmen appear in the town.

Just as the skink star seer begins to doubt the interpretations of the prophecys the bray herd bursts from the shadows seeming to emerge from the land it's self right on top on the seraphon. Seraphon led by the scar veteran counter this ambush in the center, charging straight into the beastmen, but the saurus on the flanks arnt as lucky.

As the battle continues the saurus begin to realise that the original misinterpretation of the prophecy has lead to the powerful saurus Calverley being left out of the fight, protecting a well not being targeted by the beastmen.

The saurus scar veteran leads the charge into the largest gathering of the beastmen, carnisaur tearing four to pieces before the scar veterans spear can dispatch another three. Panic begins to spread through the bray herd as the beastlord sounds an ancient and terrible horn. Carved from the bones of an ancient seraphon the blood curdling sound reinvigorates the beastmen as more beastmen emerge from the shadows and ground reinforcing the Gors. With spite the Gors attack back drawing blood on the mighty carnisaur and sending the Gors into a blood frenzy having no regard for theirown bodies as the throw themselves at the mighty beast.

As the battle continues the saurus realise the trap they have found themselves in, desperately trying to bring the Calverley into the center where the can support the scar veteran heros counter attack.

But the Calverley are blocked by baying Jaws and hidious mutations of the chaos hounds, meat for the slaughter the beastlord releases his hounds directly into the path of the saurus warriors slowing there advance and allowing the beastlord to claim the ultimate prize, the seraphon hero's head.

The beastlord charging into the already heavily wounded carnisaur, delivers the killing blow on the beast before crushing the skull of the scar veteran hero sent to stop the enaction on his dark plan. (fools!)

The beastlord and his Gors then turn their attention to the remaining saurus warriors, as the saurus Calverley slaughter the last of the hounds before seeking revenge for there fallen hero.

Little do they realise though they are falling into the second of the brayherds traps

The saurus charge the waiting beastlord as beastigors emerge from the shadows charging the seraphon warbeast.

The Beastlord allowing his Gors to take the brunt of the charge emerges from the second rank, empowered by the attentions of the dark gods kills three of the saurus immediately before the remaining Gors regroup and join the bloodshed.

The battle ends as the remaining saurus are slaughtered, the beastmen using them as sacrifices for a new herdstone erected at the desecrated site. The brayherd spoiling the water supply with chaos enfused seraphon corpses causing the beast change curse across the region, swelling the herds power across the region.

Great battle and great opponent + army. Hadnt played seraphon before so really cool to have the chance to go against them on the table top. Also great to get out and test out a new gaming club/venue. first time I've been to this one but had a good overall vibe, good table S and pretty easy to get too as well.

Thanks for looking and comments and feedback much appreciated

Hello all, small update.

Experimenting with pale skin tones on the ungors. 1st pic no wash 2nd pick wash.
Would like a malnourished/sick and pale vibe. Havnt decided if I will vary the units skin tones with 3 each of these styles or just have the whole unit in the one style.
Rags are going to be browns, metals probs coppers or rusty? (Gors bullying all the good iron for their weapons).
Would appreciate any thoughts on best skin tones for the vibe + any other thoughts.
Thanks for looking

Thanks Gobert, went with the mix in tones in the end. What do you think?

Update Gor gang, think I'm about 90% on the ungors, might do more might not. It's very cannon but I've never really liked ungors. If I can choose between beastmen Gors and ungors I'll go Gors all day. Mainly painting these guys up because they have been seeing play on the tabletop as a summoned unit and don't want to play stuff on the table that isn't at least partly painted. (that said they did almost kill a Carnisaur which did sway me a bit, more play like that and maaaybe I'll change my mind )

Also, that big base they're on is a little tease for the next beastmen project I'm going to be working on. Which I think will be the last beastmen one for a while but quite a big one. (although as we all know in this hobby there's always the next model in the collection)

As always, thanks for looking, comments and feedback much appreciated.

aaaaand its arrived! got my Herdstone Proxy for my BOC,

(haven't decided base or no base yet)
(Herdstone in spoiler for reference)
Spoiler:

a great piece of army terrain that give army wide effects as long as it on the table (can be destroyed by monsters which is quite cool as well). Decided that i wanted something unique to my Armys theme rather then the generic herd stone model. Thought a lightening rod equivalent related to the Dragon ogre Shaggoths lightening ability but with the warping powers of chaos as well. Going to paint the crystals in a dark purple linking to the army's overall colour scheme and might try a little OSL as well (would be the first time for me but think it could work really well). And of course you can't have a Herd-stone without heaps of skulls and plenty of beast symbols all over it.

Then got excited and wanted to get a couple group shots showing the scale of the Herdstone with some of my bigger guys as well as a bit of a celebration of having pretty much all the models i want for this army assembled and ready to play (about 2500-3000 points depending on what counts as what)

seeing them all together really helps as well. Painted and collected these goes over such a stretch that i can see units I painted at the start that I want to go back and do some touch ups on now (the red dragon ogres need a wash for example), but overall really happy.
Would be great to get some 2000+ points games in when i get a bit more familiar with the rules just to see them all on the tabletop.

As always thanks for looking, comments and feedback much appreciated

Thanks amazingturtles first time really working with terrain but these kits are great, massive recommendation for the business that prints these (was only £10) and they've got loads of different kits as well.

https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1431183047/basalt-crystals-scenery-terrain-fdm-pla?click_key=c4c49d08552547547ca22a77596cc41391bcd8d5%3A1431183047&click_sum=b6cbdd76&ref=shop_home_active_53&pro=1&sts=1

Update! So I think I've finished the modeling partof the herdstone.

So fluff wise, I'm thinking the shaggoths/Gors conduct sacrifices/rituals at the stone using "worthy" enemys taking place at the back near the sword. Thinking about having blood spatters up the wall on the sword side and considerably more evidence of blood/murder detritus.
Thinking paint wise, black for the stone, dark purple for the crystal and regular bone for the bones. See how that looks and then consider if it needs anymore colour or spots. Want to keep the vibe/feel of the stone quite dark and terrible, similar to the feeling of the old fantasy beastmen art.
Anyway, that's all for now guys, thanks for looking and comments and feedback always appreciated

"GOR GANG, WHOHAHA"
Herdstone wips
So got the base colours in on the herd stone, just chipping away at them. Loads of washes to go and plenty more highlighting but liking how it's looking so far. Really goes with the models from the army too, from the Gors with purple shields to the shaggoths who are both quite complimentary to purple.

Thanks guys, decided to go off black (corvus black) dry brush giving the stone a slight bluey/grey'y hue, think that has helped. Still doing the purple but plan is to build it up quite alot with washes and try and get some real crystal'y depth and contrast the the stone. (still potentially with some osl but not as sure now).
Alllso not as sure about the gyphs/beast language on the stone, still think it will be cool just not sure how much I will have on it.

BAT REP 2! BOC vs Lumineth Realm-lords 1500pts (or actual beast men vs aelves who like cows?)

learnt a lot from this game and had a great and patient opponent to help as we were playing.

first unit of Gors to be blasted to pieces

Beastlord did well going against an absolute tank in "The light of Eltharion" got a bunch of wounds off but in the end not enough to survive.

Dragon ogre Shaggoth feel a bit flat in combat 2x, will use him a bit smarter next time. More use of spells and command abilities.

Bestigors performed awesomely (killed 3 units, 40+wounds)

So got smashed pretty quick. Made a couple of major mistakes early on and massively underestimated and overestimated a number of units.
Need to get a better understanding of the rules as well, missed loads of opportunity to use the command ability's.
Still, that's the point right

Also, got to use my new Herdstone, was pretty effective but not a game changer without enough units left alive to get buffed

Got the base layers in but still a bunch left to do

Thanks for looking and comments and feedback much appreciated

So, Ive made a couple of purchases and had a couple of thoughts.

1st thought, remodelling my older gen dragon ogres onto the current gen dragon ogre bases.
Keeps them online with current models and offers a bit more of an opportunity to differentiate the units a bit more via new bases?

2nd thought, more dragon ogres. Of all of the armys I've got going on atm I think the idea of an all dragon ogres force is the one I find most compelling. I like the idea of having enough to use the thunderscorn battalion from the BOC handbook (1-3 shaggoths, 3-9 dragon ogre units) and just generally love the law and the idea of this little niche army. So picked up another 3 pretty cheap and am looking foward to getting them build over the coming weeks.

I'm enjoying the idea that fluff wise dragon ogres are immortal and get bigger as they age/take in more lightening. I like the fact that soon I'm going to have a bunch of different sizes dragon ogres to kind of lean into this theme being able to have a fluffy reason to field classic (imo awesome) models. I'm also keen on the idea of really big dragon ogres. There stuff in the fluff about Archaon climbing a mountain to retrieve a sword only to realise at the summit it was a sleeping dragon ogre. Other references, kholek suneater, a massive dragon ogre total war warhammer has a great version of as well as a handful of others. Think it would be great once I have the main battleline and hero's sorted out to go model a massive dragon ogre as a real centerpiece for the army. (probably using the kragnos model as a base)

Finally, I'm also considering a BOC gravespawn army, which is essentially an army of chaos spawns on steroids. Made this guy a while back and have since lost him but came across the picture the other day and got to think about an army of these guys representing free city settlements infected with the beast change curse and becoming these.

Really like the idea and think that my next project post dragon ogres will probs be a bunch of thing'esk spawn.

Cool, so little bit of an update, next one sure to be frantically assembled dragon ogres or the bat rep from my next AOS game (dragon ogres vs STE) on Tues.

Thanks for looking and comments/thoughts much appreciated

One batch of frantically assembled dragon ogres. Probably the part of the hobby I enjoy the most and lasts the least amount of time
(guess I'll just have to keep getting more models)

Not quite fully done, maybe add a shoulder pad or two + add some stuff to the bases but overall, pretty happy with the build. Very cool kit and my first of this army (can imagine getting at least 1 more unit in the future, get all of the gods subtlety represented)

Thanks for looking

The desolation of Garstone keep

The storm cast eternals attempt a desperate defense but are slaughtered to a man.

The sacrifice of remaining citizens of sigmar draws the attentions of the dark gods and a great herdstone errupts from the ruined remains. Dark power eminates from the stone causing purple lightening to rain down over the ruined keep.

The stormcast however can never be put down for long. Reforged and reinvigorated with a new found hate for the enemy, the eternals return seeking to avenge the fallen citizens of the Garstone keep and put down this tribe of dragon ogres for good.

So fluff aside, had two great games against stormcast eternals, the first was quite one sided, table'ing my opponent by turn 4. The second was a hard fought battle of twists and turns ending with a narrow victory for........
You'll have to wait and see
(takes ages to write up a battle report)
Opponent was great to play and will definitely have to get the trilogy game arranged at some point in the future

In other news, update on the herdstone, not finished but chipping away at it, added a edge highlight on all the crystals but needs a bit of tidying up. Got dragon ogres to work on atm and another big model on the way soon.

Until next time, thanks for looking and comments and feedback as always much appreciated

Sorry gobert was so keen to post missed this
Not sure about the removablity, think that I'm just going to full rebase them and have the whole army on the circle bases full time. Do think they could be a bit raised though, just to add a bit of size in comparison to the current ed bigger models.

(the addiction continues but every time i see these guys together i just keep thinking oh yeah and just another 3 new dragon ogres and the army will be all symmetrical... and then another 3 and another 3, until I end up with 3000pts of just dragon ogres with a counts as kragnos as a kholek suneater dam this plastic crack got me good)

The Battle of Garstone Keep:

Reforged and reinforced, the stormcast eternals return to the keep to reap a bloody revenge on the hated dragon ogres.

-
Approaching enmass, the eternals anticipate the tactics of the foe, and when the ambush comes, the warriors stand ready.

-
The liberators take the brunt of the charge but are overwhelmed, the monsters eviscerating them with ease.

-
Leading from the front, the commander launches the counter offensive, blasting the largest of the beasts to pieces with dracoth blasts.

-
The commander charges seeking to break the will of the survivors.
At this moment, another group of D.ogres appears, charging into the rear ranks of the opposite flank of eternals.

-
Bloody fighting ensues as dark purple lightening strikes down from the sky, obliterating the stormcast and envigorating the D.ogres. In the ensuing combat, the lord commander is struck down by such a bolt, and the stormcast are temporarily routed as they struggle to regroup with threats from all sides.

-
Seeking the strength of sigmar, the lord relictor regroups his men to charge into the largest group of monsters, cutting them down with volleys of arrows and thunderous hammer strikes.
This overpowering display of faith strikes fear into the remaining dragon ogres, who, unlike the stormcast, can not be reforged if killed.

-
The Dragon ogres retreat to the herdstone, seeking to be rejuvenated by its chaotic energies but only a single D.ogre makes it to the cover of the keep.

-
Appearing in a flash of light, vigilors let loose a punishing volly to kill the lone D.Ogre. Faith continues to turn the tide of the battle, as now only the oldest of the dragon ogres remains.

-
Another flash and the relictor appears, unleashing focused lightning on the ancient beast. "Fool," the Shaggoth bellows as he uses the sigmarites gifted energy to charge down and butcher the remaining draconian guard, before turning his attention back to the foolish priest.

-
Teleporting again, the relictor attempts to find cover in the city's ruins, but the Shaggoth foresees his ploy. Leaping and charging through the shattered building, the shaggoth erupts from the wall, and, bringing his massive axe down on the priest, splits him in two.

-
The remaining vigilors, seeing the swelling power of the beast, know they are outmatched and, seeking to avoid an unnecessary reforging, retreat to regroup.

The sigmarites lay a heavy blow on the Dragon ogre tribes of Ghur. Immortal but unable to reproduce, every Dragon lost is a step towards their inevitable extinction. With numbers dwindling, the last shaggoth turns to desperate alliances and dark pacts to ensure the survival of his species. The gravespawn are coming.

(really enjoying how playing games is contributing toy idea of the narrative for this army, feel quite fulfilling and potentially something I'd explore again with my other armys )

Alright alright allllright, had a lil test game today of 10th, first impressions, good.
Doing a 40k 10th ed tournament on Saturday, 3 games back to back, specifically for learning 10th.
Should be awesome and will be great to get to play my Daemons for the first time.
Got about 900pts fully painted and ready to go just got a unit of Nurglings and some Tzeentch flamers and then 100% painted.

Wip of the Nurglings and the Flamers. Messing around with the base colours for both factions. (proper WIPs probs tomorrow)

Alllso, decided to change the bases on the Dragon Ogres and am waaaay happier with the results.
Added some broken Gemstone, Skulls and slate and am considering changing the basing of the army to the snow style base same as the Daemons.
We'll see.

As usual thanks for looking and comments and feedback always appreciated

So finished (for now) the Tzeentch flamer and Nurglings test models. Going to finish off the rest hopefully pre Saturday and have a fully painted 1000pts finger crossed.

and leviathan

Picked up the SM half and am looking to paint them up same as a few test models I did years ago. Homebrew chapter thinking about the name Crucifier's one of their rights of passage to survive being Crucified for some period of time, the colour scheme representing the blood on the hands and body. Still needs fluffing out but excited to get started with it

As alway, thanks for looking comments and feedback much appreciated

So, had great time attending my first ever tournament and playing my first games of 10th ed. Played three games and learnt a lot from each game and the experience as a whole.
Biggest lessons learned:
*The importance of scoring objectives (got excited and in my first game vs Nids barely scored as I just tried to get everything into charge range and combat )
*Which Daemons are squishy and which are slightly less squishy (made some terrible choices with this but got better as the games went on)
*The power of sticky Objectives by using the DOC corrupt real space stratagem (once i got the hang of it and using it in my opponents command phase led to some great tactics and plays

Game 1 (Tyranids) Loss

Game 2 (Grey knights) Loss

Game 3 (Necrons) Win

Overall great experience and looking forward to the next games and potentially a couple of rematches.
Thanks for looking comments and feedback much appreciated
