Hmm. I haven't heard anything from Dark Sphere yet. I pre-registered about a month ago, maybe I made the cut?

I am also starting to come around to skipping the box. I'm not really actively collecting either faction (although I am casually building up SMs since the Indomitus box) so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I missed out.

Interestingly my friend registered for 1 box 15 minutes after I did, he got a copy and I didn't. He did however order something the same day he filled in the register, so how active you are as a customer might be a factor.

My FLGS seems to have had no problem getting what they need and more. I think the issue with stores like Darksphere, Elements Games, Firestorm, etc, is they are big online retailers who could sell a couple of orders of magnitude more boxes than a regular FLGS. It's not that surprising that they have more interest than they can fulfil. At least that message got out early enough so people can try to find alternative places to buy from if they're still interested.

Yea big online stores draw big attention as well.

That's why i always go for flgs. Discount might not be as big as big online store(better than gw though) but always got what i wanted so far.

Can someone confirm the U.K. price? I think it’s £150, but haven’t seen confirmation,

£150 from all stores - discounts varying with Wayland offering one of the best at £120 - though sold out everywhere it seems barring any stock held back for physical or small stores no one knows about

OK doke. At least I know I’m in for that much come payday.

Chaos Cards don’t have it on their website, so will drop by later to ask if they’re getting physical stock. If not, guess I’m driving to Ashford.

Even if not I suspect, esp once release comes, there will be much higher demand for marine content than Tyranid, so you can likely hit up ebay and find some fairly affordable critters there to pick up now and then. I know for Indomitus even before the 2nd wave appeared you could still get necron sets fairly affordably.

Dark Sphere was £123.80, happy enough with that. Now to eBay some gak to fund it!

Luckily, I don't want any of the models in the box. So, once the rulebook is released on its own, I'll grab that.

I will hopefully get to play against people with their book from the box, and I'll use the downloaded rules.

Leviathan is not the only way to get into 10th.

Honestly you'll likely find lots of copies of that rulebook easily. Heck I wound up with a second from last edition that I could never find a buyer for (and then stopped bothering).
People who buy two or more sets wind up with spare rules and cards

I got in the queue an hour an a half ago, the "Event" as they call it started about 40 minutes ago, and I think I have about 90 minutes left in the queue judging by the speed with which the bar is moving.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

It should give you a numeric countdown as an estimate as well.

No, I'd say the only reason to get Leviathan is if you are interested in the models in the box. For someone like me who plays both Space Marines and Tyranids, getting so many new models in a €200,- box is simply too good of a deal to pass up. And even if you just want one half of the box, it is still an amazing deal (even more so since you can sell the other half). But without interest in the minis I don't think it is worth the price. With the rules being downloadable and starter sets and books being released seperately later on, there is no reason to buy Leviathan just to get into 10th.

It positively surprises me that Leviathan is still up on the GW webstore over here. I guess GW wasn't kidding when they said they really made a lot. It did sell out quickly at most FLGS with webstores I checked though, so it looks like GW did keep most of the stock for themselves.

Hah! Glad you got one - after all my worries and rationalisation, I got one from Goblin Gaming for £120 as well. Seems like a bargain. Looking forward to painting up the new Nids, especially that Neurotyrant.

"Mind boggling quantity" indeed. I.e massively under the amount required. But I don't think that's what GW meant.

I get they have to keep some back to stock the shelves and get people into the warhammer stores, but surely whoever was doing the numbers for online sales got it badly wrong? Selling out in a day might look spectacular but it's a real disappointment for some.

Are they doing another run?

I doubt it. There's still tons of boxes available from independent stores around the world, not to mention however many are reserved to sell in-store on launch day. I don't think they'd do another run unless the first was close to selling through.

Some stock might be reallocated from poor selling regions though so it doesn't clutter shelves for years.

We’re yet to have anyone miss out entirely though. I’ve not bought mine yet, but will have one waiting for me at Chaos Cards on release day.

I’m yet to read of someone disappointed because they didn’t try to place their U.K. order direct from GW until 4pm yesterday. Had it sold out before the queue system was removed, yes I’d agree they under produced. But that’s just not the case, is it?

They stated it won't be a Made To Order - though I have little doubt they'd backtrack that if it paid.

Its a huge discount, like 70-80% off, so they probably don't want to sell too many so their starter editions that is smaller and cheaper with less discount don't sell well later on. Or that people have too many models from Leviathan boxes that the individual kits don't sell as much cause everyone already have massively discounted models that could last them through almost the entire edition if they bought 3x Leviathan.

Last time they vastly underestimated the amount of people that wanted Indomitus and it looked really bad when just the scalpers got it so they made an MTO. Not a good start of an edition when barely anyone can get it and there is a lot of negative press going around. So they felt kinda forced to make an MTO to calm the players and have them give the edition a chance. It is quick and easy money but if they already have trouble meeting demand it isn't good for them to use their limited production on stuff they sell at 75% off when they could make items that sell at full price. So doubt they will do an MTO this time around.

GW site now directing to local stores - sold out online but NOT in minutes - they may have got it right. (HUSH! BURN the heretic!)

I dunno. Going into it saying that it will be available to pre-order for a two week period, and then running out before day 1 is out, is still a cockup in my book.

(And indeed still having the 'Pre-order Leviathan now!' article front-and-centre on the community website 2 days after you've run out...)

But not nearly enough of a cockup compared to last time so probably not in their interest to make more or an MTO.

They had no illusions it would be available to pre-order for the whole 2 weeks. The extra week in the pre-order window is likely for the logistics involved in moving the stock to its final destination. The box was still available over 24 hours after the pre-orders launched in the UK. That tells me they've done a much better job than last time and probably as well as could practically be expected.

On overall numbers?

We know they had 50,000 of the promotional Leviathan Boards up for grabs. Source.

Games Workshop Webstore T&Cs wrote:6. There are 50,000 Battlefields available under this promotion. Should stock of the Battlefields remain after the expiry of the promotion, GW reserves the right to deal with this excess stock at its discretion, which includes (but is not limited to) the gifting or sale of the remaining stock.

Those sold out/became unavailable prior to the boxed set coming off sale.

So absolute bare minimum, GW produced 50,000 sets - and sold them. All of them. Just through their own online shop.

On top of that, I know my FLGS, Chaos Cards, are getting 18 store copies to sell. I know this because I’m 11 on their list.

We also know GW have over 400 of their own stores, which will be getting stock. Unsure how many copies each will get. But if we use Chaos Cards a a touchpoint? That’s another 7,200 copies.

Now, how many other FLGS are getting we can only guess at. Some have said 42. Some have have 60+. Some have said they didn’t get the allocation they requested.

But again, if we use Chaos Cards’ allocation of 18, and multiply that by the number of third party retailers on GW’s books? I’d say 75,000 copies is a comfortable, semi-informed estimate, especially as we’re yet to have any kind of confirmation how many copies GW stores are getting.

If they printed enough books for everyone, no matter how they get it, do the Leviathan books have Leviathan covers?
Otherwise, they'll have locally made enough models for a first wave, can spin up another or two, and will sell off the spare books when the boxes have all had their models allocated.

If the Lev box and the 'normal' books are not the same, this makes no sense, and won't be the case.
