I spent a good hour yesterday undecided on what color to paint the weapon wraps on my guys axe. The issue was leather could be too close a color to the brown shading I will use on the armor. As if that wasn’t challenging enough to work around, I became increasingly uncomfortable with the notion of painting the straps on his wrists the same color as the wraps on the axe. Would it work if I did this? What if it over encumbered the model with too similar a distribution of colors? Would they realistically be similar colors? If I opted for different color materials, what options was I left with that wouldn’t be too loud or too boring?

This went on for some time.

It’s sad really.

I hear you.

I only have a few browns I use. So when a model calls for multiple items to be done in similar tones, how to choose what gets what? You don’t just want to hit the same scheme for everything!

Sometimes context means a lot. For example, the armor on my howling banshees is the exact same as how I do skin (guiliman flesh contrast over grey seer) but they don’t read as naked. But they all have their helmets on, so we never get to see the same paints as skin and wraithbone on the same model.

This is procrastination - I was ignoring no less than three separate household chores the whole time I was squinting at the top of a terminator. Four if you count unpacking and shelving new action figures as a chore.

There's no chance of me completing my original plan (finishing and painting my gigantic Cargo-8 Ridgehauler) in this month (or any single month, realistically). I'm going to audible to painting this old SFD Giant Robot from Citadel. It's not actually very large, but it's called a "giant robot," so I guess it qualifies.

Just to backtrack to the "brown" discussion, I've been painting ewoks for the last week and that's just an unreasonable amount of brown.

Not to worry, I'm taking care of this month's procrastination quota. Things should still look good on paper when we hand in the monthly report even if folks are being uppity and finish within the first week.

Looking forward to seeing the Specters.

I considered entering Chopper, but decided against it because the theme didn't sound psychopathic enough to do him justice.

Not been around the monthly comp for a while. These guys have been sitting about for too long without paint. as they align nicely with the challenge, I'll try to get one of these units sorted

Main challenge will be to get into the airbrush groove again!

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

One time there was this emu looking bird sitting on a bench in town, every day he sat there looking smug at people and whenever I walked past he'd say like cawcaw or something and I thought to myself ..just ignore it and walk a bit faster, but whenevr I was past I told myself I would the next day say something back.

I never did.

Maybe someday, but its a very large bird.

It took me a while to decide what to do this month. My original plan was to paint a Thrud the Barbarian mini that's been sitting around for decades, but I can't seem to find him. I settled on this old CItadel Ogre:

Now showing a Beholder from Bear's Head Miniatures!

Painting total as of 10/27/2024: 85 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and a fours giants

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

I have a thought for this challenge but I need to put the bugger together first.

Some things are bigger than others you say? I'm in with this fella then, a skitarii ranger marksman with the ol' transuranic arquebus, a rifle twice as long as he is tall. There's also the added bonus that he is the last model in the Kill Team squad I painted a while back, making the unit complete, or absolute as it were:

I dunno about this month folks, ambition is at an all time high (I want to make almost a diorama of the base) but motivation and available free hobby time are at an all time low. I'm already leaning into this procrastination stuff I keep hearing so much about.

It looks flipping awesome, when you showed the static skeleton out-of-the-package I had my doubts but holy heck does it look good, can't wait to see it painted, you're a very likely contender for one of my votes.

Thanks for the preemptive vote of confidence Leo. I’ll try not to disappoint.

I like how he puts my old (goblins army) giant into some kind of perspective. He’s just taller and more poised like as if modern giants just aren't what they used to be.

We can hope.

As a break from 40k I'm painting up a potential D&D model. Hopefully there will be a merchant to go with it in the future.

I finished my ogre (link to my P&M blog in my signature), but now I'm not sure that's what I want to enter. I'll work on some other things and probably update my entry when I decide.

It's been a terribly busy month with no hobby time. I can't even clear off enough space on my hobby table to attempt to paint on of my scratch built stompas like I had planned. I'm going to try painting one or both of my remaining unpainted homemade big squiggoths. I will need to craft the howdahs and armor as well.
