It was , most likely , the guy that cast up his pathfinders in clear resin and tryed to use them. Judges told him to not use them in one game (first) and then he tryed to use them latter. Busted.

I realize that there is the "all minis must be from a GW source" statement in the package, but that was kinda weak. I mean, they do show you how to do the casting in a WD.

heh I figure if you could whip the figures you cast out of your case and say "right here are the 9 stealths I purchased, assembled, cast and then painted, I'll use them if you make me but I think clear ones are so much cooler" they should let you do it.

Do not use the CLEAR dice!

Dear Whiny Space Marine Players,
you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.

suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman!

why pathfinders? are you hoping they dont get shot? The only sneaky thing about pathfinders is they lean forward (models). A sentinal gets a free move too. Clear plastic sentinals!

I've seen an army with clear resin Stealth on ATT (belong to tonka i believe) - i don't think that got DQed.

yea tonka was there with his clear stealths, and got full soft scores. he was also the top tau player finishing 12th overall.

he took a lot of pics of the other tau armies, briefly looking at them, they all seemed ... unoptimised.
now that USGT is no-comp, i was expecting it to flip to being hardcore competitive optimised, but it seems people still have hang-ups about taking a powergame list.
that'll pass probably.

Looks like they made the same mistake with sportsmanship scoring that the UKGT did. In the UKGT they didn't penalize you for getting less than three bad scores either. If sports scoring isn't confidential everyone just says "you give me the maximum sports score and I'll give you the maximum score." Of course, its not in anyone's interests to rock the boat so everyone ended up with the maximum.

The new UKGT scoring system is basically 18 points available for winning games, 1 point for painting and none for anything else. No points for picking lots of troop choices (which was blatantly unfair as some armies have far better troops than others,) kissing your opponents butt err... I mean good sportsmanship, or passing the geek test aka quiz (who the hell knows the Tau word for spoon?!) Mauleed would probably love it!

Whichever way you do Sports, it's liable to manipulation. The fact is, all soft scores are based on subjective judgement therefore are difficult to confirm or verify for accuracy. It could perhaps be done by surveying a large number of players on sportsmanship and painting outside a tournament situation, analysing the data statistically and producing a curve you could assess the accuracy or truthfulness tournament scores. But this would be a lot of trouble and I don't see why GW would bother, anyway, they'd probably cock up if they tried it.

If GW wish tournaments to be decided on battle points but dislike 'power' lists, they should change the FOC and army lists available, and/or encourage the use of less extreme lists by changing terrain and scenario setups.

In my opinion (not a tournament player so what do I know...?)

I'm friends with some serious GT players that have finished a time or three in the top 10 in Seattle. I was told by them that sportsmanship scores were used quite a bit by people to hamstring opponents that have a good chance of otherwise placing higher than them or their friends in tourney scores. Appearantly the low scores were given even if the ones recieving them bent over backwards to be  decent fellows to play.
I was curious if anyone else has seen similar things happen in GT's they've attended.

Every single time. Any time sportsmanship is made part of the overall score, people use it to cornhole the other guy. Groups of friends will attend, and arrange to tank their opponents' scores if it will help one of their own place higher.

It's a built-in loophole, and people abuse the hell out of it.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I think they pulled it. I can't quite get it, even going in the front door.

EDIT:  Wait, went in another door:

EDIT:  It appears to be the same door.  But I swear that it didn't work to go in directly.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias
