Here is Papa Nurgle's 2k list for the Gladiator: Librarian, fury of ancients, veil of time, 8 man command squad, apothecary, 2 plasma guns, Vet sgt w/PF Drop pod Terminator squad, 2 asscans Drop pod 3x10 tac marines, 2 melta guns, vet sgt w/ PF Drop pod 10 tac marines, 2 plasma guns, vet sgt w/ PF Drop pod 10 scouts, ccw&bp vet sgt w/PF 74 marines, 6 melta guns, 4 plasma guns, 2 asscans A very balanced list with nothing in the realm of warmachines are gargantuan monstrosities. I will be following the same lines when I creat my list for the event next year.

But that is the secret of that army; it doesn't look all the powerful, but when you have the ability to get 70+ Marines up close and personal with your opponent's army, that is brutal. Not too mention they also bring a big piece of LOS cover with them.

All drop pod armies are no joke. You really need to build an army tailored to go against them. It is hard to build an all takers list that is also very effective against Drop Pod armies. Impossible? No, but difficult to do.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I got another test game in against Mahu's marines. We played gladiator mission 4. While I did win, I only got the primary objective as my land speeders couldn't manage anything other then dying and giving him the tertiary.

Good job there Me_Person!

I think drop pods gave back to Space Marines what they had taken away when rhino rush was nerfed. They are good but not broken. When I play against a drop pod army I form my units into what I call a wagon wheel... others here commonly refer to this tactic as a castle. I keep the best units inside with the other units on the outside. This prevents the drop pods from shooting at my best units with double tapping plasmaguns and meltas. The next turn I can charge the units of my choosing. Drop pods can and do come in piecemeal, which is one of their main weaknesses.

Don't forget that the year before papa won, Muhwe (Hank) won the gladiator with a tooled killy khorne army. An'grath and a bloodthirster supported by two squads of bzerkers, 2 unit of bloodletters, and a giant chaos spawn. That list was nasty. Although this past year they changed their tune on An'grath. While he is a monsterous creature, he still is a character, thus doesn't count as a scoring unit.

I'm looking forward to you testing out your list against mine.....Do you want my fluffy RTT version or do you want something tougher?....perhaps something more like you would see at that sort of event?

I'm only running 2 star cannons in the whole list at the moment as I was worried about comp scoring.

He needs to test it against the scariest lists possible. I plan to test my Gladiator list on Saturday as well, so bring the pain Lazarus.

I saw the winner of the gladiator, and the 2nd place guy was a very well played eldar guy from 2 Oblit to Quit. I managed to get 3rd in gladiator with little more than a balanced army between movement, shooting , and hand to hand.

Mike I would suggest a well balanced army and you will do wonders in a gladiator tournament. Just remember the missions change from year to year. Keep the shooting in but leave soem room for assault terminators just in case you run into anything hordie. I know you say your shooting will kill them but remember there are 6 turns of shooting and 12 turns of assault.

Those scary lists thanks to the matching system all got destroyed by one another in some way possiable. I will say the Lysander list is good for a damn well placed suckerpunch but just be ready for the retaliation.

My best advice is to keep it balanced and like that drop pod list, the eldar waveserpent rush list, and my wych cult list; we all had the ability to move, shoot, and assault.

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.

My biggest problem is that I can't plan for the gladiator as I am getting a new codex soon and it will change lots of things.

I still think I'll go mech as it gives me the greatest chances against daemon bombs / drop pods etc.

I'll make a gladiator list out of what I can choose now but obviously it will be changing in the future. I should be there next saturday as I have to work this one coming up.

I would take scout bikes or even regualr bikes over the Speeders for the simple fact that a turbo boosting Bike squat is a T5 squad that has a 3+/4+ invulnerable save that will allow the vet sgt to stick around untill the terminators a ready to come in. Once that happens your bikes and scouts will no longer be the target of fire for your enemy.

Edit: Though scout bikes are better because they get an extra move and always start on the table especialy durring escalation.

Every one, the GW army building programs was over charging for my librarian's powers. The updated list has both scout squads at 6 guys at 111 points each and the librarium squad costs 399. An alternate list has viel of time/fear for the librarian and the list is the same as the un-updated version, except the libraium costs 410.

man this is almost exactly the same army as I'm planning to take to the '07 Adepticon Gladiator

Do not use the CLEAR dice!

Dear Whiny Space Marine Players,
you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.

suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman!

I guess the only upside to us having almost identicle lists is that it increases the chances of a lysander wing placing high...

Hah. Yeah sometimes Army Builder's math is a bit off. That's why it always pays to double check. Nice find. So what would you add with those extra points?

I don't know much about the Gladiator thing, but if I were taking a Lysander bomb, I'd probably try for a lot of redundancy with units able to get where I want them.

I would drop the Land Speeders to get 2 units of scout bikers, sgt, teleport homer, PF. Points come out pretty close. That way, if Infiltrate is not in play, you can still get your 6" move behind cover before the game. Then in turn 1 you can "zoom" (To use a doctrinal term) 18-24" to place the scout bikes where you want them, and have the scouts moving forward as well. That gives you more locations to bring in the bomb, and less likely that you'll lose the homers to shooting.

The only other change I'd recommend is to drop one of the shooty termie squads and replace it with assault terminators with FC. You need something that can cut through squads like butta. If you go with the PF guys, you'll end up getting eaten by massed charges, and lose guys to IG.

Adepticon winning list from last year won for the following reasons:
1) Matchups. Only thing that was exceptionally nasty was the 865 point Biotitan which should have cleaned my clock. All other matchups were unprepared for pods.
2) Scenarios and missions: Pods lent themselves to the missions played. The one mission that should have been difficult (allowing my opponent to keep anything he wanted in reserve), he didn't read/realize that part of the scenario and put everything out.
3) Luck. Game 4 I had 8/8 pods come in. That's just rough.

My advice to anyone going to a Gladiator is to go and play with stuff that would normally get you a punch in the nose. Go to have fun, not to win. 120 people, 1 winner, and you're probably not going to win. Accept it. Go to have a good time. Take the freakin' Titan. How often do you get to use it? I mean really.

List looks interesting though. Hope to see it across the table from my IG and let's all hope that Fear doesn't go off... otherwise, I am in a world of hurt.

Thanks for the adivce PapaNurgle. If I remove the speeders and drop one scout from each normal squad, I have enough points for two scout bike squads of 4(including the sgt) with a teleport homer and a power fist.

I got 3 games in against Mahu's word bearer list using 3 of the 4 2006 gladiator missions

I'm now 100% certain I'll be replacing the speeders with scout bikes. The speeders are simply getting 1 shot in, then dying.

You're going to want a bolt pistol on the scout bike vet srgnts for the extra attack. While your making points for it I suggest putting melta bombs on the squad for 8 points as well.
