Things are not as bad as they seem. You actually get 11 models! [/sarcasm]

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

This kind of thing happens all the time, even when the sprue is not recut or revised in any way. Remember Imperial Guardsmen? They were 20 models for $35 till the IG got their new Codex, then it was 10 models for $22, after last June it went to $24.75. Snap up the remaining $35 boxes of 19 Orc models while you can!

Ugh. Whyyyy, GW, whyyyyy? It's bad enough that even before the repackaging you needed two boxes to make a decent regiment - now you have to buy 3 boxes to make one good block of orcs?? I really, really wish somebody at GW would get a clue and realize that they're slowly pricing themselves out of the competition.

100 orcs from GW - £180.
100 orcs from Mantic - £75

They're on 25mm bases too. I know who is getting my money from now on.

I don't. That is a tremendous jump in price for a horde army. This isn't like WoC where you can get by with 5 units of knights. This is orcs. Multiple hordes or green skins of all sizes necessitating model counts in the hundreds. This repackaging might make Orcs THE most expensive WHFB army by design.

Grats, GW. This might be the tipping point. I have a funny feeling Orcs will not be powerful or fun enough to justify this increase, and I can assure you the $200 price tag required to field a mere 1k army will be a barrier for entry.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

I hafta say I really like the new hardback book. I don't mind the higher price so much, it's a good quality book and all. I think it'll hold up a lot better if you take it with you for games a lot. But I do think they should offer old paperback too.. like make the hardcovers be a limited/collectors thing like the spell cards that are sold out before the army book is even released.

how come when I go on gw websight it still shows the orc boyz box in the 35$ set? what am I missing?

Remember, to laugh at an ork is kind of like laughing at a busload of handicapped kids who are murdering the bus driver...

That's a very good question and it occurred to me also. The only thing I could think of is that they are still sitting on a bunch of the older boxes and wanted to get rid of them. But I've seen the new box at the higher per model price with the new artwork on it and I've held it in my hand, so this is not a rumor, it's news. Grab up those older boxes if you need them now.

I thought about doing a small 1000 pt or so savage orc army with a lustria theme to em.. but, $30 for 10 of em seems kinda high.. and that would what, 100 pts or so? But then I guess the big spider would take up a good chunk of points.

Savage orcs? $100 buys you 80pts worth, IIRC. Have fun building that army.

This is ridiculous. So much for starting that new army. Thanks GW, I'll take my money elsewhere.

Hopefully mantic can save the day. I don't even like most of GW's Orc & Goblin line. All the gobbos and the regular orcs look like crap IMO. I really just the Black Orcs & Boar Boyz and the Savages are okay. I like the picture of the one they have up there now.

That's probably why GW chose to raise the cost of the "normal" Orc Warriors to 10 models for $29 US, to bring it in line with the new Savage Orcs box sets that are also 10 models for $29. That way they get the same amount of money no matter which type of Orcs players favor for their armies and it doesn't steer new Orc buyers away from the Savage Orcs because the normal Warriors are less expensive. If they both cost the same, you may as well buy the ones you like the most without being influenced by a difference in price.

Which naturally guarantees you will buy savages instead with the increased statline. "Our new sculpts are a success! Hurray! We can raise costs even farther!"

I guess if ya look at contents... orcs are 8 pts for 10 in a box, goblins are 3 pts for 20 in a box.. so you get more points outta the orcs.. still though.. at that rate I'd do like 1 unit of 20 orcs and then fill up my points with big stuff instead. Which will probably make an army that sucks to play, but at least it would look pretty in my dead pile. I'd have to paint my big spider with a bullseye on it, since every cannon or big gun in the game will be aimed right at it..

Or I could go the cheap route and just have a front rank, and a bunch of empty bases behind it. A few guys in my club do that, starting to see why

Same here. Either someone mistook the Savage Orcs for basic warriors or there's a repackage incoming and the web site isn't reflecting it.

The repackage is already here and the website is not yet reflecting it. There were at least two boxes of the repackage sitting in my local GW store this past weekend. Very quietly, unannounced, surreptitiously, repackaged with a price increase per model. But hey, the new box has a new photo and artwork to match the rest of the new Orcs & Goblins merchandise.

For some reason it's not on the USA store but the UK one has it.

More than that.

19 models at $35 for the set comes to about 1.84¢ per model. 10 models for $29 is $2.90 per model. That's about a 63% increase there.

Edited to hide the fact that math is hard.

$35 for 19 models is $1.84 US per model. I think you swapped your numerator and denominator there.

At least I managed to divide 29 by 10 correctly.

The sink.

Wargames Factory is releasing a box of orcs too. They don't look like GW orcs, but they'd do. Might even be cheaper than Mantic's orcs.

I heard from the owner of my LGS that the new set will be priced at $24.75... not sure if that's correct, but either way it's still pretty sad. I can already see the explosion of cheap gobbo armies based on the BFSP night goblins, filled out with a few giants and spiders... and you'd still probably come out cheaper than by creating an orc army. =/

Some stores still have Orcs and Goblin Brigade sets as does the US GW Online Store. Due to price increases on individual Orc and Goblin plastic sets since the Brigade was released, the $190 Brigade now provides about a huge $71 price break over buying what is in it separately, even more if you factor in the 57% price increase on the regular Orc Warriors that is already appearing in some GW stores. Last night I scooped up a remaining Brigade plus two now discontinued boxes of 19 Orc Warriors. If you are even thinking of starting an Orcs And Goblins army at this point, I suggest you grab what Brigades and Orc Warrior sets you can that reflect the aforementioned savings.

The Brigate is over $100 less than the sum of it's parts. Even more if you can order it through an online discounter. I agree with BrassScorpion, get it before GW figures out that they still have this in circulation.
