Excellent work

The additional body parts under the decking really help convey the idea of pulling the dead souls out of the ship. I'm assuming that thre'll be some splintering and damage added to some of the deck planks?

The conversion is great, very nicely done, and the paint job is lovely so far.

Thanks for the compliments monkeytroll. I'm keeping the plank ends clean as I envision the spirits & zombies pushing up the planks rather than actually splintering them. I did add emphasized texture to the boards, as they looked a bit dull when painted flat brown.

I kept the zombies crawling up through the floor dark and simple to avoid drawing the eye away from Davy himself too much; hopefully they convey the image of the crew dragging their way out of the hull of the ship.

All that's left is the varnish - here are the final pics of this lengthy project:

And that's the end of him - hope you've enjoyed his slow (but inexorable!) growth to glory. He'll be gracing table-tops in the Santa Cruz area for the next several months as he prepares to lead his lads to the Quake City Rumble!

I was thinking a couple of planks might get damaged as they were pushed up, but seeing them with paint on it does really work well as is, good choice

I've been fairly busy lately. Too busy to update anything, but not so busy that I haven't gotten a bit of painting done.

It's clean-up time (again), so I'm clearing up some of the assembled/primed/lurking models that need to get finished.

First, a few night goblin models to continue bringing my NG army up to speed:

And here's another addition to the zombie pirate army - the dead man's chest (casket of souls).

I also finished up a squig gobba, but I haven't gotten pics up. I'll get them done this weekend!

More to come,

Yeah, Forgeworld announced they wouldn't be carrying Warhammer Forge for much longer was the catalyst to buy all the goodies I never got around to getting. I'm really bummed about the loss of the Ettin - I wanted another of those guys!

The clean-out-the-backlog project continues!

In the last week I finished the unit of bull centaurs that's been eying me in a guilt inducing way for a while, an iron daemon, and a lone elf prince. I also got started on the display board for my zombie pirates. I've got to have it finished by July, and it's going to take a while.

The ship is based on a megablok Flying Dutchman. Converting it into a landing craft for Harkon's boys is going to take some work, but I think it'll look good in the end.

Hope you enjoyed that pile of disjointed stuff. There's more to come!

OMG I don't know what amazes me more :

1 Your converting ability
2 Your project list
3 Your painting skills
4 Your imagination
5 Your endless pot of gold

I have to say each time I check this thread I never know what the hell I will find 40K, Fantasy, Orcs, Elves, Empire, Undead it is just such a joy

GREAT STUFF !!!!!!

Thanks for the well wishing amigo.

Anymore, the hobby is largely self sufficient. Wife-mandated space requirements necessitate the occasional army sell-off, which generates funds for more armies! It's a bit of a self-licking ice cream cone really.

I'm glad you dig the conversions though; who knows where this stuff comes from? Sometimes the inspiration bug bites you, and you run with it.

The ship is coming along. I finished most of the base deck wood work today and am getting to work on the grate and the rear quarters. The roof will be removable and the room furnished, so I need to come up with a theme for it. I'm thinking about a necromantic library or a zombie kitchen, but who knows what it'll end up being.

Here are the pics:

More to come on the ship soon!

Nice start although the basic model was pretty damn good in itself mind you I'm sure once you work your magic it will look amazing

I like the necromancer Library idea myself but we will see how this progresses

A library it is - or at least an alchemist's workshop. I picked up a pile of bits to dress the place up.

While I wait for them to arrive though, I've got to get 2 morghasts painted up to test out this week. If they're good, they'll be in my tournie list in a few weeks.

I didn't pirate them up too much, they seem a bit serious for it, but I tried to pull them into the nautical theme with the trident.

And here's the work on the ship:

I'm about done laying the deck, and the masts are coming along. Then the fun part will start - the detail work.

Any ideas on the name?

Dan

It's been a productive couple of weeks.

I finished up the Morghasts, completed a high elf chariot that's been sitting in the to-do pile for a few months, and knocked out a unit of sisters of the thorn for my sylvan army. There's also a new BSB for the army hiding in the front rank of the sisters - he's a kit bash from some left-over wood elf bits.

Here are the pics:

The morghasts performed pretty well in my game last week, so I'm going to try them out again tomorrow. If they continue to provide an effective unit that can work well away from the general, then I may expand the unit to four models in the near future.

Next up, I'm going to continue working on the ship (name still pending) and pick up a unit of eagles from the hobbit range to convert into warhawk riders.

Stay tuned!

Dear god man do you ever run out of steam everything looks great always does

Firstly the ship is coming together perfectly just loving the crows nests

As for the Morghqsts although you kept, the theme simple it is still effective, the bases really pull it together nicely

The Sisters of Thorn are a bright bunch, that's what I love about your paint work no fear of using bright colours and succeeding

Love the High Elf chariot once again enough brightness to break the white tone

As for the ships name I keep coming up with nothing fitting, I did think "The Rising" due to the dead theme but not really working for me.
Then I thought "The sails of souls" which I kind of liked but not sure if it sounded dark enough, then there was "Wave of Death" but that just sounded like a mortal kombat move

As of yet no, I haven't run out of steam, but there's still time yet! I've been getting to play pretty frequently lately, and that always gets my hobby juices flowing pretty well.

I love the color scheme on the sylvan army too. I was concerned the scheme would be so wild that it'd look terrible, but it seems to have come off pretty well.

I'm having the same problem on the ship's name. Everything I come up with doesn't quite fit. Something will come through the fog eventually.

Here's what I've gotten done in the last few days on the (as yet to be named) ship:

Great looking pirate ship!

It reminds me of an AoP entry I saw here on dakka. It was a High Elves ship... It looked awesome! Your interior detail really supprised me, you've gone the extra mile!

The Black Pearl? Titanic? Das Boot?
(Seriously, no idea for a worthy name...)

Glad you all like the boat! I like the names "The Bilge Rat" and "Dark Moon Rising", but I think I'm going to have to wait until she's painted to decide for sure.

The furniture is from Fenryll miniatures (the desk, bottles, and some of the books) and Reaper miniatures (the candles and the other books).

Adding stuff to the deck would make the ship crowded and less useful as a display board, but I wanted to add a bit of detail somewhere to bring the thing to life a bit, so I decided to spruce up the cabin.

The only variable I haven't solved yet is how to work Davy Jones (with his wooden base) into the board as a whole. I think I may model up a half-submerged ship off to the side of the main ship and have him standing on it, pulling zombies out of the hull. We'll see.

I like the idea of the partially submerged ship - As though Davy Jones has brought his ship alongside so he can 'harvest' the dead sailors.

I only have a quick (and unrelated) update today.

I finally finished basing up the looted tyranids today! Sadly, the impetus was because I'm out of shelf space and someone has to go. I'm sure they'll find a good home somewhere, although I'm a bit apprehensive about using Ebay any more. It looks like sellers have been getting pretty hosed lately.

Anyway, here are the finished pics of the looted tyranids - expect to see them on an auction site near you!

And that's all she wrote!

More to come tomorrow,

Well the nids have gone to Ebay - hopefully they'll have a new home in a week or so!

Meanwhile, I've been working on a number of projects.

First, more WIP shots of the pirate ship:

The moss and barnacles are mostly finished. I'm working on furnishing the cabin now, then I'll get started on the masts and rigging.

Next up, an angel from my slowly evolving army of light:

Finally, my 8 year old boy finished his first regiment. We've got a deal. When he finishes one regiment, I get him another. Next up, he'll be working on a group of skinks. He's got a lot to learn, but they don't look too bad.

That's all for today; there's more to come soon.

After a particularly long wait, my Toughest Girls in the Galaxy came in last week. Needless to say, I was pretty stoked.

Other than the time it took to receive them, the miniatures are incredible. All my concerns (fueled by the 2nd wave Sedition Wars stuff) were put to rest with the TGG. They're really top notch.

I'm running them as fanatics in my World Eaters army. The way I see it, World Eaters are some chauvinistic dudes. Who better to get them beers after battle, help them into and out of their armor, and to serve as hapless fodder in battle, than a bunch of hot chicks?

Enter the Gorgeous Ladies of Khorne (The World Eaters are shown for scale):

Oh, and I finished the last four glade guard for my Sylvans. I've got a quartet of eagles coming in to the FLGS this week to be converted into warhawk riders, and the army will be about done.

And that's about it for this week.

On other news, the nids sold for 1200 clams on ebay, so I've got a good bit of hobby change to undertake a new project. Half of it has already been committed to expanding the 30k Wolves into a more robust force.

In the near future you'll see:

30 grey wolves
30 blood claws
10 long fangs
and a Spartan assault vehicle

I'm looking forward to the project - it's going to be awesome to get some 30k stuff done again! I really can't wait for the Prospero Burns campaign book from Forgeworld.

More to follow,

Dan

That's it rub it in got my RH minis still waiting for mine

They look great did you go metal or resin

Glad you got a decent amount if cash for your sale can't wait to see it transform into more awesomeness.

Like the idea behind the use of RH minis and simple but effective colour scheme for them.

Can't wait to see a group shot of the Glade army that is some crazy colour scheme but works effectively

I went with resin. In hindsight, metal would probably have been easier to assemble - the resin was a huge pain to clean and put together - but the end result looks pretty good.

I'm waiting to base them until there's some clarity on marine base size. If they have to be switched, I'll use the 25mms that are already painted for the girlies.

We shall see!

I have heard around the forums that the resin can be a bit brittle in places especially when using for gaming, I would just be happy to get mine 2 years in the waiting
