By the sound of it, an ink wash or two would do wonders the texture you're describing.

It is an excellent model in terms of its reception to inks. However, the painting process doesn't end there for me. Layering and highlighting on top of all those tiny bits of detail was just too much for my current temperament.

My Kroq'Gar is coming along nicely. I plan to have it done soon.

Hey, I actually did something with my models today!

All individual guardsmen assembled, looking into spraygun for quick priming. Otherwise, I have 2 HWT still on spruces and more pieces to add to the sentinel.

Waiting for slime to dry so that i can add another coat.

Then swamp grass and shrooms.



Also planning out a DE list while i watch paint dry

Love this thread....ok, time for an update...overall have done fairly well....while I have not gone "cold turkey" on buying things, I am doing fairly well on trying not to buy new stuff until I get old models done. Of course, a few deals here and there and I have ....um...well you know.

* Numbers on big models refer to the second or third model (tervigon, ghost ark, riptide, etc.) for infantry, it refers to the squad....I tried to break my list up into manageable chunks, as I found it made it easier to get stuff done.
Where I have Models x #, that means I have not broken them into squads for tracking progress....there are too many.

MY TAU

As a long time tau player, I have about 8000 of the old tau done...this is leftovers, and new stuff...


TYRANIDS
Most of my nids have been done a long time, these are mostly stragglers - have about 6000 points built,painted, based.


Necrons.
Oh boy. I Played my old crons in 4th, but decided to repaint them when the new book came out. I have about....4k in the old models/scheme.
I have yet to finalize the new paint scheme, so stuff that says "Repaint" needs painting....I have not even built most of the new book stuff.
Tragically no progress on crons - I have not worked on them, they are waiting for tau and nids to finish.
um...and maybe I bought a few things.....the shame....


Ok, here it gets more vague...

Grey Knights
I started a roman themed Grey Knights army right before the new 5th dex came out, and stopped the project as I found the new book too easy, and I did not want to appear to be a codex hopper.
Eventually, I will get back to them. Its a ton of older models (metal termies, etc.) and lots of conversion pieces.
NO PROGRESS.... but hey, I didn't by anything either!!!! Thats a win, right?


Space Marines
I have a chapter of my own devising that I used to play either as Dark Angles (when I was in a biker mood...I love bikes) or vanilla SM.
This listing is even more vague...many of the models here are built, and some are base coated, but NONE are DONE.
(for example, I have 40 termies built and magnetized, but not painted and only about 10 are on their custom bases).
NO PROGRESS - BUT, I managed to not buy anything!!! Yeah!!! It was not easy to resist buying more stuff since the new book dropped.
In fact, I did well....I sold some stuff I don't think I will make...


Other stuff that is not exactly in any army....
Baneblade - repair and paint
Shadowsword - repair and paint
Bastions x 2 - paint
Bastion x 2 - build
Skyshield x 1 - paint

Oh, and a lot of reaper bones, battlefleet gothic and zombies.....

Overall I have done pretty good....my friends and I keep track of our monthly goals and progress, to encourage each other.
My goal is to have all of my tau done by the end of the year, and be in full force on my bugs (which might be getting a new book soon).

Nurgle daemons complete again, at least until my Great Worms come in that i can convert into Beasts of Nurgle...

Working on some Lootas today, and maybe finishing up a dakkajet.

I really want to strip my Castellan Crowe just because he looks terrible. After I get done with my Grey Knights army, pending any Christmas presents, I'm probably going to skip my guard and go to my CSM. I should paint the guard first, but since so many of my CSM were acquired through trade, and need repair/have some paint jobs that are less than table top standard, my inner painter is screaming "HERESY!!!" for not fixing them first lol.

I have so much to paint atm. Sadly the amount of time I feel able to paint is minimal.

I have also been selling or trading away old stuff I don't think I will get around to.

I actually have gotten paint on my brushes in the last week or so. Soon all of the new additions to my Slaanesh chaos marine army will have the base armor coat in place (a magenta ink wash with a bright pink dry brush). Hoping that getting that rolling will get me painting details into the units for that army again too. Still not going to list all that I have to paint, as I don't really want to discourage myself too much. Ultimately, though, since I've only got a couple more ork sets to buy to finish my last army I will soon run out of models to build so I can start using that time for painting.

Thanks lobukia. It's a nice feeling. I didn't realise I'd done so much. I've just been chipping away trying to finish a unit a month or thereabouts. Adds up though. Think I might push on, see what I can get done by end of December and take a bunch of pics of everything I've done this year. Hopefully inspire me to try and beat the final number next year.

1 LRBT down, 40 or so Commies painted, a Junior Officer painted, one Cadian infantry painted and I am starting on some more Russes. Though I did fail the challenge by starting a WoC army... but on the upside a lot of it is painted now.
