One piece of neat news is that down the road (2018 I think) Myth: Battles campaign will kick off.

It is described as a table top war game utilizing these monster and human factions with added unit types (e.g. arm a unit of Orcs with heavy armor, or ranged weapons, etc.). Very little details so far; just a blurb in the latest news video; but it might eventually give you a reason to paint some of these

They showed off some of the artwork for the Acolyte class progression ages ago.

Think it went all the way to Legend if I recall correctly, but I believe they also said some of the later classes would be consolidated into one larger release of cards/ figures and less new monster types.

Considering how many monster races and bosses we'll have available by the end of Journeyman shipping, I'd say there's already a fair amount of variety in place then.

It will be the third game in the series: Myth (Novice?), Myth: Journeyman and then Myth: Master.

Bringing all the character types up to their Ultimate Forms.

All will eventually be, yes, over 9000.

Too nice to just throw away, not nice enough to be happy about them, small enough that assembled models don't always fit nicely inside, large enough that they'll consume all of your shelf space!

Did anyone come up with a good solution for those?

Made in gr

Threw them on the recycle and threw everything on a spare standard sized boardgame box.

As with most of this campaign another wasted opportunity.

The modules could be a proper box with some fluff in the back making them an ideal box to carry the mercs of the boxes logo, it would also be something that would stand out on the self of a boardgame/ wargame store, instead they went for the cheap option of this pizza style box that is all the above you said and eats up too much space on the self of any store.

But what amazes me is they did not put any effort to write some fluff on the back to intrigue someone to buy it.

Update #155

Apr 24 2017

Not Fogotten

We understand it is getting bad out there in forumland and our silence isn't helping. We know you are frustrated by the lack of information coming from us, but I can't answer any questions you have at the moment. We are under an NDA on Myth and have been for many months.

Sounds like...maybe bad news?

Under an NDA?!?

WTF?!?

So, from the comments section:

MERCS Miniatures 7-time creator 43 minutes ago

@predator I meant, that I wouldn't have teased you with a bad-news appetizer. It makes no sense to kick a hornet's nest then share the bigger bad news in a few weeks.

So...maybe MEGACON has been or is about to be purchased?

Who knows...

I've always liked MYTH, but I've always wanted to like MYTH, and Megacon, more - but then they always manage to make that...not something that's easy to do?

How can you have an NDA like this when you own the game and it isn't a licensed product - makes no sense to me. No update would have been better than this! Unfortunately this is par for the course with Megacon. Forumland complaining I haven't seen anything of note and this thread is very quiet but they've just opened a can of worms

I find it amusing how a handful of words out of their mouths lets the crazies out of the closet.

I'd been wondering about their radio silence too.

My guess is if they have an NDA that they're looking into getting bought out.

Wonder if they'll stay on as develops. Question is, who would buy the IP?

For some reason my mind is leaning towards a company like Cryptozoic or IDW.

Or I could be totally wrong and reading too deep into things.

Is there more stuff? I ended up just dropping to the two expansions with no add ons. I haven't opened them. In fact, apart from one session under the v1 rules, I haven't done anything with the game. It's a shame, I'm sure there are some good times hidden in there, but it would take a regular commitment with a regular gaming group to dig it out.

You're maybe missing out of some stretch goals too, but other than that, maybe nothing major?

I, of course, went 'all in' on the modules and as such am owed...quite a bit.

It was a very odd announcement to make, and without a follow up, not good.

You know how it is - in the absence of information, you will get speculation...

If I have learned anything from reading hard-boiled detective fiction, it is that this most likely indicates one of the co-owners was sleeping with the other co-owner's wife, who was planning to frame him for a murder made to look like a suicide. This update was likely an attempt to shake up the players and see who moves on the investigators with goons and car bombs.

Yeah, a partnership / acquisition was my first thought too, and perhaps the terms are such that they will help turn around the rest of the pledge items and ensure the future of Myth related games.. a deal that will keep the Empire out of here forever.

Asmodee perhaps?

This is the only reasonable possibility.

I thought these were released a bit ago so why are people still waiting on things? I'm pretty sure they had them at GenCon last year. I backed the original Myth and Recon but spaced out about the Journeyman KS and missed it but it kind of sounds like that might not be a bad thing atm.

If it's a bigger company licensing, buying out, or whatever MCG, then it's MCG following the terms of the NDA that the bigger company set for them. In this case, ownership of the IP has nothing to do with it.

This is not (likely to be) something like, say, MCG having a playtester sign an NDA to test some alpha rules.

As for silence, that's your preference. Some backers were upset that they haven't heard from MCG for quite awhile. https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1768613/mcg-silence-what-practically-can-we-do-now

So.. with my X Wing campaign wrapping up at my club and an interest in a coop dungeon crawler at an all time high, I thought I would dig out my Myth stuff and try to get some use out of it. The 2.0 rulebook is definitely an improvement, enough that I finally grasped what all of the components were for. Unfortunately I realised two things;

1) I don't have the updated hero cards for the Spriggan, Trickster or Skald. Were these supposed to be in the 2.0 printed materials shipment? Similarly were the other unlocked mini bosses etc supposed to be getting new cards too?
2) I didn't pledge for the Journeyman versions of the three characters above (Though if we never see a second wave that could be irrelevant). Doh :(

..also, what were MCG thinking when they updated 95% of their cards but declined to add a "2.0" in the corner so the new ones were easily distinguishable from the old? Madness!

Update #156

Myth Update

We can pull back the curtain a little more.

The Myth property is being purchased. When the contracts are finalized we will answer all your questions (including replacement questions). This has been an extremely long process. It still isn't finished, but it is very close. We still have to be careful with the NDA because the whole thing could collapse. When the contracts are all signed, expect an extremely long update. I'll tell you the whole story.

All the remaining material in JM will be delivered in one more wave. Please hear my sincerity. It is extremely important to us to get you the rest of your product. When everything is finalized, we can go back to show and tell updates. We've been wanting to show you all the stuff we've got done and soon we will be able to.

Last Friday, Keith submitted the most recent batch of Myth JM from the PM to the shippers. This will be the last one downloaded and submitted until the final wave is shipped.

I wonder who it is?

I hope they 'continue the line' and use the same or a similar art and miniature style too...

Some...interesting news here:

Update #157

Jul 31 2017

NDA News and Production Samples

We appreciate the patience most of you have shown. I can say more now, so I will.

We started this process almost a year ago. I sent emails out to those people in the industry that we respected, could afford our properties, and we would fit into as a studio. In the email, I explained we didn't want to be publishers any more:

We started MegaCon Games 8 years ago under the name MERCS Miniatures. There are three of us. In that time, we’ve had our share of successes and setbacks. We are reaching the completion of our active and last Kickstarters. We have plans for several more games, including expansions to existing properties, but we've decided we don’t want to be a game publisher any more. We're pretty far from what we truly wanted to do, which was design games. Publishing has made us smarter game designers, but there are things we don't have the bandwidth or the skill to do effectively: marketing, community, logistics.

We are looking to become a design group for a larger game publisher and/or sell off some of our IPs. The pressure of performing all the jobs is too much. You know what is required to run a hobby game business. We cover all the jobs: warehousing, distribution, finance, marketing, logistics, customer support, art, game design, and game testing. We cannot continue as we are; we are dying a slow death.

There is more to the email, but it is focused on each of the potential publishers so I cannot share any more details.

One of the reasons we can be so patient is we do not intend to ever publish another game again. So this option is the only option for fans of the Myth property. You would never see another Myth game if we didn't get this right. No Myth Master. No Myth Battles. No more modules. No Myth 2.0 box in retail. No rpg. No Myth Legendary. No Myth Adventurers toolkit. It would stop. So we can take some heat in the comments and a bad Facebook review or 10, because we understand this is the only way forward. If the deal fails, we are done.

We agree with you. We design cool games. We suck at the business part. The communication part. We see the changes in what a backer expects out of Kickstarter. We are not CMON. We do not have half the game produced before we even launch the KS campaign. We have to do 90% of the work required after the KS closes. As much as our games look like they come from a team of 20, they come from a team of 3.

So, I sent that email out and we had a lot of interest. I went out to GAMA in March and met with everyone. All of those meetings required an NDA. I can't talk about the who and what we spoke about. But, I left those meetings with real offers.

Over the course of the next few months, we reduced the three or four real offers down to one. Since that time we've been working to get this thing taken care of. At times during the negotiation, it appeared as though it might fall apart. Even now we don't have a final, definitive yes. Both of us, we the seller and they the buyer, are waiting on a third party to give us the go ahead. We are waiting for a yes or a no. It could come this week or next.

In the meantime, we've continued to finalize all the elements of the Journeyman KS. Some of you have expressed resentment toward the Emergence Event and Dark Frontier KS, because they are being completed before the JM stuff. We can appreciate this perception. They were easier to finalize and get off our plates in terms of production and shipping.

For some perspective, the EE expansion is the equivalent of 1 JM module. In design. In production prep. In cost. It took 6-8 months to produce. Journeyman has 11 modules. It takes a lot of time to finalize and produce these elements.

While this was going on, we were in negotiation to sell Myth and become a design studio. We are still under an NDA, but there is a mutual understanding of trying soothe the JM backers because you see some of our other KSers finishing.

Some of the events that have happened are under NDA and may never be revealed. Other information you are looking for I simply don't have yet. I do not have a shipment date for the last wave. We aren't even finished with production. So much of what you all our asking I can't answer because of the NDA or because of we don't have that information yet. With all that said, I can address some questions:

-Replacements? We are not sending out any replacements until we have produced and paid for all the production and fulfillment shipping. Shipping replacements is expensive and we cannot afford to dip into the production money until we have paid all that is due.

Some might push back and say it should come out of our salary. First off, we don't make a salary. We take draws based off of profit. And we haven't had any form of payment from game publishing for 14 months now. We saw the writing on the wall coming last summer. It is one of the reasons we made so many changes to overhead. It also spurred the conversations about our future.

Not only have we poured our heart and soul into our games, we have poured our own financial security and that of our families into this business. We are invested and the only way that investment will ever pay out is if we deliver the last wave of this KS to you and can sell the property. If we don't deliver the last wave, the property has little to no real value and as I said, we are done with publishing and KSers.

-Pledge Manager? The pledge manager will open again so you can update shipping addresses, but it is a waste of time to open it up without a final production and shipping date.

There is a lot more to say and address when the NDA goes away.

Production Samples

With all that said, we do have picture of some production samples. I've been holding on to a lot of update content so we have plenty of stuff to show if and when this deal finishes. These pictures are a bit old, but represent things you have never seen.

The final wave will look something like this.

There will be some elements that are different if you only got a few modules or didn't get the JM LE hard cover, but the vast majority of you will be getting something like this. The larger box houses all the stretch goals. The smaller box houses the add-on modules. I'll give you a look at the contents in a minute. The hard cover LE book is accurate in terms of size and type of treatments. The color is slightly different (the front is a bit too yellow).

These are the final, approved samples. It has taken months of back and forth to get to these.

The LE book will have a de-emboss that looks like this.

The cover is made from a faux-leather with a replicated burned de-emboss. The pages have gilding. Here is an image of the actual material color and what the de-emboss treatment looks like on that material.

We are very proud of this final book. It contains a lot of history and lore. All the rules in one place, restructured to be together, single-player rules, a single-player module, and bestiary. I'll talk more and show more from this after the deal is done.

The module box contains the 8 module all-in pack with space for miniatures. These boxes are very large and are made of sturdy materials. They will hold up well. These modules are amazing. There is an over-arching theme within them that takes the heroes from Novice to JM and sets up larger campaigns for the future. We are pretty proud of the stories told here. The game play is compelling and each has unique items and game play elements. By the end of these modules, you'll be on the cusp of a legendary hero and you'll feel like it. I'll talk more and show more from this after the deal is done.

The SG box contains all the SGs including the 3 modules unlocked there. All SG minis will be housed in this box. There are so many goodies in this box. We are hoping, when you finally open up this box and see all that you have received, you'll forgive the delays required to make these elements the best. In Keith's own words, "If this is our swan song... what a song."

Finally, a sample of the colored FD.

Hopefully you see these very real production elements and it gives you confidence. Dark Frontier pledge manager/pre-order ends tomorrow morning (you can still pre-order the game if you desire). It will be out of production and on a boat in August. Then there is only the giant complicated JM KS to finish.

We are almost done. We are a bit worse for wear but approach the end of this KS with great anticipation. In the next few weeks, we'll know if we'll continue on this grand adventure or go our separate ways onto other things. It is our hope to keep bringing you exciting new Myth stuff through another publisher for a long time.

The admission that they're not good 'business men' is...obvious, but good to see?

I hope that they finalize this deal with (X) and that the Myth property continues on - at least through the completion of this one, and for a future MYTH MASTER!

A little thread necromancy here; but there has been a bit of news:

While the sale of the Myth IP is reported to have been completed; the new owners have yet to announce (my total speculation is Warcradle - they could marry the Myth IP with what little lore there was for Uncharted Seas to great a true fantasy line). The latest update mentions April - or - August,.... to me it sounds like perhaps GenCon before things get relaunched,.... until then, there were some actual pictures!

The production of the next waves is underway with printed materials coming first,.... modules should really ratchet up the replay value of the game!!!

Proof review pics:

Just the printed stuff is a huge amount of stuff!

- 2 boxes
- 11 modules (330 pages of text)
- 1 LE hardcover book (208 pages of text)
- 550+ cards
- 24 realm tiles
- 13 punch boards

Over 550 cards! And the modules each have their own punch boards for tokens, etc,... they've taken the opportunity to add new lair tokens to each in the new JM format (so it looks like even the modules that call out original KS1 expansion monsters like the Rats and Elementals will be forward compatible with the eventual new base set once the new owners take over).

The Miniatures will be a different production workflow and may be in several waves (especially if you ordered the Over the Top pledge):

We haven't spoken about the minis much because the relationship with the factory has changed and we've wanted to be sure everything is how it was. Right now you are saying to yourself, "What!?" and maybe getting a bit nervous. Bear with me.

We worked with ZIBO in the past for Myth minis. However, ZIBO is really a broker that works with the production factory JX. They are the factory that did the production for Myth, Myth: Journeyman, and Banner Saga, so we've been able to see full production runs already. When we are in China we visit the JX plant with the owner of ZIBO, Benjamin, and we got to see Banner Saga in-progress first hand.

Benjamin is a French born citizen who lived in China. He spoke the language and helped ease the communication barrier that can sometimes happen with Chinese factories.

He is moving back to France. He had possession of our molds because we worked through him, but was going to leave it up to us on how we wanted to proceed. He suggested we maintain our relationship with the JX plant. He was very confident nothing would change in terms of quality or output. He put us in direct contact with the person who is the plant owner.

After a good bit of dialogue with the JX plant and Benjamin, we decided to keep our mini production at the same plant. We were worried what this was going to mean but any worries we have had have been satisfied. Benjamin will still maintain a relationship with the factory and maintain the sculpting studio that created most of the first Myth minis.

As a way to ease into direct work with the factory, we've moved forward with a couple of test molds and a smaller production run of the old minis (the "Over the Top" add on) . We wanted to take it a bit slower to make sure the work is the same.

We're confident nothing much will change but the slower pace is to make sure the quality stays the same. We'll have pictures and an update when we have initial pressings of the minis.

Ships and Shipping...and a bit more

Shipping

As some of you have discovered, the PM is open and shipping can be paid. We've been testing it and it appears to be working as intended, so now we are making it official. There are several things to note about this round of shipping:

Link to PM: https://signin.pledgemanager.com/

The main two boxes are very heavy (all dense paper and cardboard) . The shipping cost is based off weight. Each product has the real weight assigned to it.
The cost varies based on location. More importantly, how much and what the customer ordered impacts the price more so now, ie. two packages going to California can be much different in price.
Non-subsidized pricing. The price tag for shipping for some of you will be very high. We've always helped offset the costs previously, but are not able to do so now.
If you have multiple pledges, the shipping should reflect this.
You can choose to wait and receive it all at once with the last shipment (see details below). Shipping prices are going up every six months and I don't expect that trend to change. If you wait, expect the shipping cost to go up.
Please verify your address. If you need to change your address, you should be able to do so in the PM now.
If for some reason you find you can order something, please don't. We cannot honor any new item purchases at this time. The print runs/injection numbers are locked. The printing limits and prices negotiated have been set across the board.
If you waited to have your Journeyman expansion shipped until now, you will see shipping in two places. There is an area that says reward shipping (Shores and Blackwall) and an area that says weight shipping (the current wave). In the example below, this backer has already paid for his base Shores and Blackwall games. He only needs to pay for the current shipping.

The first bracket has to do with the shipping of this base game expansions and the weight shipping has to do with the current shipping.
The first bracket has to do with the shipping of this base game expansions and the weight shipping has to do with the current shipping.
The PM will be open until August 1st to pay for shipping. Afterwards, it will be locked and the addresses of the backers who paid organized for shipping. We may be able to open up the PM again for a batch for people who missed this opportunity, but it isn't a guarantee and won't be this year.

What's coming in this shipment?

We are looking at final wave delivery of the miniatures in the summer of 2019 but it is still very much a moving target. We should have test injections to show you in forth quarter. As I mentioned several updates ago, we are going slower at the beginning to ensure quality.

Translations

Translated materials will be shipped out with the final wave.

Buyer Announcement

We understand the buyer will be talking about the purchase at Gencon. Expect a bit of news to filter out during the convention and we'll have a larger update afterwards.
