Thank you everyone! They are the most tiny chickens possible, i think. They came from an ho scale farm set, so it makes sense. Kestral, I may have to try a weighted base, i always forget that's actually a think i can do. I am feeling better now, also, and thank you for asking.

So i found some more bits, and that means I made another one of these guys!

I need to write a story or something about these guys.

Hah, that thing looks great

A story would certainly be welcome, if you wait too long to write your own fluff we'll have our own head canon about them and start arguing!

Help us save ourselves!

Thanks,

Oh yeah, we definitely need a backstory for that... creature. That's a nice kitbash, but I'll be damned if I know what exactly it is

Thanks everyone! I wrote a little story, but i'm not certain about sharing it yet.

I've been looking over the bingo sheet, and it's a little frustrating how much of it is dependent on... actually having an army plan, or a single army that's ever finished. but i found one more that i can do!

I've had this one laying around for who knows how long! So i painted it up and that counts for a bingo square! Three down!

Nice use of a dryad. I have about fourty of these, each less remarkable than the last. But one freakish slime tentacle and a a creepy curved scythe would make a thing worth building a game around.

As ever you thrive outside of the box.

Planning, building and painting on single army is highly overrated And Sylvaneth are treacherous, because you always think "how hard can painting an army of these be, they are only wood" and in reality there is always more to it.

I appreciate the compliment but in this case i think it came with the bug? It's a hero of some kind

Viterbi wrote:Planning, building and painting on single army is highly overrated And Sylvaneth are treacherous, because you always think "how hard can painting an army of these be, they are only wood" and in reality there is always more to it.

Thanks! I've never finished a single army, so i must be doing well!

And I continue with that. I wanted to try one more square on the bingo sheet, painting a model using a color i don't normally use. so i went with a friends suggestion and used pink and green on this guy

So that's one more done!

The pink looks good on the stealer, nice contrast with the green too. A whole swarm of them would look great!

Meanwhile, I've painted up one of the chaos marines i put together back a bit back. The guy with the book! Here he can be seen preaching the good word of chaos to a mysterious xenos!

Even in the grim darkness of the far future there's no escaping from rules debates

People asked for more chaos otters (i think they did at least and if not they're getting them anyhow) so here is this one! With his faithful servant, an aspiring sorcerer of something or other.

Yes! More otters!

I really love the chaos/stormcast mashups, and it's great to see them get some paint. That bingo sheet looks like it's lit a fire under you - what a productive page this has been already!

I'm a big fan of the pink genestealer too, and hope that the puffy rhino headed marine gets some more friends and/or a write up soon!

The big sorcerer looks genuinely wary of the otter. Like he's worried about sneaking up behind it and getting a face full of otter wrath.

For me if I had to choose a science fiction writer who got things closest i'd go for Ursula Le Guin, but I might be biased there because she's one of my favorite authors period.

But until then! How about some heresy? How about a quickly kit-bashed alienish guy who somehow got ahold of space marine gear?

Like everything i do he needs a lot of work but getting the idea down is the most fun part for me. Maybe this is what i need to do, just do what i want and make aliens, mutants and other such strays. i like 'em.

Ursula K Le Guin is one of the best there ever was.

I had recently undergone an exploration into SF, sensing that I had somehow a glaring void in my understanding of various fictional worlds. I wanted to see what else was out there that I had been missing.
One of the things I discovered was Warhammer. I'm not sure about all the story and fluff. I have read very very little of it. I like building models and painting them. And I like converting models, too, though I have no "pile of shame" to speak of. Makes kit-bashing hard.

Another thing that happened was that I picked up a book called "How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe" by Charles Yu. It was funny and playful and the author writes as the character who knows he is in an SF book. But in it, at one moment he cries, "Holy Mother of Ursula K. LeGuin!" I'm embarrassed to say I had even never heard her name before. I started to research her and started to read her books. I tore through the Wizard of Earthsea books like they were . . . something that you tear through really fast and desperately. Light-hearted and deeply moving at the same time. Thrilling, hopeful, and adventurous. I meet people all the time who say she's their favorite author ever. There had to be such people before, but I never met them. It's almost like someone came back in time from the future and one of the things that changed was that now all of a sudden there was this fantastic author who made such an impact on the world and the world of SF, but she just hadn't been there before because my timeline was suddenly replaced by a subtly different one.

Anyway, all of this is to say:
1. Ursula LeGuin is amazing
2. Your kitbashing is fun. Those rat-headed-minotaur-monster-creatures are brutal and vicious while also capturing a light-heartedness that is cheering to me.
3. If you don't like the Grim Darkness of the far future, time travel to it and insert a narrative thread where the brutal, genocidal space marines have pet otters. Go for it.

That is all.

amazingturtles,

Well that is a very unique demonstration of the power of Chaos...

I must arm myself with frozen flavored ice blocks for the encounter, that will provide the necessary distracion.

Wow, thank you everyone! I'm glad that the otter and his servant have been such a hit! Sadly i really do think i am now out of otters, got to get some more naiads that they came with i guess?

I'm glad to meet someone else who loves Ursula le Guin, djjazzyjeff! wizard of earthsea was one of the very first books of hers i read too, and it had a similar impact on me. the dispossed is probably my favorite novel of hers over all, but it's a very different read.

So, the latest thing i've done is another one of these guys! Kind of... i ran out of the snouted heads. I thought i would try one of these, I'm still not sure of the results.

Also i updated my blogger blog again! Huzzah

Keeping on with the "aliens, mutants, and other such strays." It's fun to get these ideas blocked out. I'm getting kind of a Tarellian Dog-Soldier vibe from them.

Also a big fan of Ursula LeGuin! The Dispossessed is in my top five books of all time, and she's easily on of my top three favorite authors. Left Hand of Darkness is of course a classic, and Lathe of Heaven is so unpredictable and beautiful. I only read the first Earthsea book but enjoyed it quite a bit.
