LOL lots of hand waving?

Good question, though. That is a tricky bit of background to overcome while bridging the two games.

While there’s lots of similarities to what has come before, it‘s a new setting, not a continuation of the original.

In the Dystopian Age setting, the Union won the Civil War. The American faction are the Union of Federated American States.

Mmmm if you read the confederated states info on spartan games it clearly states the rebellious states won and changed the government so that's clearly different than the obvious Union lean of Wild West exodus miniatures. Just sayin.

So no more crown or celestials in wwx?
Did they have any models specific to their factions?

What a shame they didn't know that before releasing the 2.0 rulebook.

I look forward to seeing where things go.

Not sure about celestials, but from the sound of the video the Kingdom of Britannia is going to become the Crown in Dystopian Wars; The sense I had is that major parts of the DW background will be changed to fit WWX, and not the other way around.

Celestial/Crown had a few models, but they were all dual faction anyways, and not enough to run a posse. Nimue was crown for example, but that always seemed odd to me, as Nemo wasn't exactly a fan of the British. Speaking of which, anyone know why Zarelda Kincaide is Confederate? That struck me as highly unusual/troubling for a POC.

I was looking forward to seeing some African Warrior Nation expansion though, as there would be some really cool model designs. Wondering if we'll get a warmachine/hordes situation going where WWX is specifically in the American frontier and they have another game set in the rest of the world.

So, Covenant of Antarctica is now The Enlightened? I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm assuming Dystopian Legions won't be crossing over. So I guess I should grab those Dystopian Legions figures I want before they're completely gone and retconned out of the game.

The CoA and Enlightened have very different ideological views, which as a CoA player I'm not hugely happy about the melding of.

Gotta love the way the Chinese are now being shoe-horned in under the Japanese because they are both Asian too, not racially insensitive at all.

Are the Chinese part of the Japanese or the other way around? And not seeing the details, they could easily be equal partners of an Asian alliance against the rest of the world. Time will tell.

Given the way they are saying there is "more" to announce later, I wouldn't be surprised if Dystopian Legions was relaunched at some point in the future as a reskinned WWX set in Africa.

They announced on Facebook that the Chinese would be under the command of the Japanese Emperor, as a sub-theme list.

So not the revival of dystopian wars I was hoping for, but instead a naval game for wild west exodus, which may or may not use some of the old dystopian wars models.

Not good news.

If you re-release the old model range, you may get some business from me as I need to complete a couple of fleets, but my interest in the new version of the game just took a hard nose dive.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

I think what Warcradle is doing is trying to give as much as they can whilst at the same time tightening up the number of factions. One could argue that Spartan spread Dystopian out too fast over too many factions; likely because they got locked into always chasing a new faction/fleet to add for the sales boost it gave.

I can see why they'd re-write big chunks and mating it to their current game makes sense too as it lowers the marketing costs; don't forget near the end Dystopian was basically surviving on a very loyal small market core (and actually as a company Spartan weren't surviving well).

The new Bretonian ship looks very much like the old style; but there's some new features - the lions head (which I approve of greatly) and the new gun designs. I think if they can keep the old style like that and give us something new it should be great.

So I'm guessing France was merged into one of the new factions? Latin Alliance maybe? I figured some factions would be disappearing, because Spartan had made way too many, but it's contrry to my expectations to see the Ottomans in, and France out, considering the Ottomans were a small French ally iirc.

It might be that they are also simply putting some factions fully aside. As the combat is happening outside of the core territories (eg Europe) they can potentially have some major factions sit outside of the war.

Then if the range does really well they can be added in, either in a major way (full new faction) or a minor (mercenaries).

The war they are designing feels very much like they are recreating the age of pirate ships, new-world colonies and such ;only instead of it being all over America its all over Africa and America.

Just seems odd, as France was one of the complete range factions, rather than the minor ally with a naval battlebox faction like Italy and the Ottomans, and it's not like France weren't involved in the African and New World colony races, or the golden age of piracy.

No interest in buying a different faction, so I guess I'll just keep watching from afar in 2018/19 and see what happens.

e: Just saw on facebook, the Latin Alliance is the League of Italy, the Spanish Sovereignty, and the French Republique, so that's answered for me at least

Zarelda isn't Confederate, she's in the Outlaw faction like the Confederates are but her allegiance is Wayward 8. So she's basically Zoe Washburne

I can see why they're doing this, and that it will make it easier for them going forward,

but i'm not convinced it's the right way to go (except the prising the land and sea stuff apart for dystopian, that is a step forward as it never really worked) and think it's going to hurt them in the short term

but i'll be interested to see where it ends up

You Sunk My Battleship!

I think it's going to be a mistake in switching to 10mm. The scale of game scratched a different itch and was a unique part of playing truly colossal engagements with giant combat engines that you cannot represent at 3x the scale (Land battleships for example), or at least easily and not without breaking the bank. At a minimum Warcradle really needs to consider at least having a cast on demand legacy section for those that want to still purchase the older 2mm products. At this point there's 0 products that I want to purchase as I don't want to play 10mm gaming (sorry got DZC and EA - 6-8mm but close enough a scale of game) for those.
