I'd like to think so! 42 models so far, 19 to go before I'm at 2000 points.

In that case I hope you like today's update! Absolutely no progress on Warcry but I am 100% okay with that.

-----

Pleased to share the finished Command Barge and Cryptek. He's meant to be a Technomancer with a Canoptek cloak but I think he's generic enough that I can sub him in for any of the four, while still recognizably being what he is. Looking at him now I realize I unconsciously modeled his slouch after Trazyn the Infinite.

No idea how I have missed your wonderfully unique and brilliant Necrons Don, they are great. So nice to see a departure from the usual metallic scheme. I admire your patience and steady hand in highlighting them so diligently.

You are right, that command barge is a treat. Love the colors and especially the black lines dividing all the colors. It looks amazing, a great addition to the army.

Cheers LTW, I really appreciate it! Not as much patience as you might think, I did the edge highlights on the barge in 15-minute chunks over a few days.

What's more, they've reinforcements incoming! The Skull Master himself at the bottom of the post!

Thank you Rob! It was mostly improvised from leftover paints, but I've come to really enjoy painting it.

I'm glad you noticed the tufts, I wanted to lean into sci-fi weirdness and get some crazy colors on their bases. I started adding them after finding my destroyer's bases a bit bare, and went back and added them to other models as well.

Thanks, gobert! It was pretty easy and I'm honestly surprised I haven't seen it before; perhaps the Necron Overlords prefer the view from the plinth.

Phew, that's a relief - because this post also contains no Warcry! Cheers, I was able to keep the ink washes in the recesses for the most part which helps give that effect, but there were lots of places I accidentally filled the cracks when doing the next layer or highlight and would have to clean it up after. Always learning, always improving!

--------

Not much to share other than that I picked up some reinforcements for my Necrons, looking at 5 immortals, 20 warriors, and the Nightbringer.

I've assembled the immortals and the first ten warriors. Taking a bit of a break from building to paint what I've built, starting with priming the immortals and Nightbringer. All considered I've got everything I need for a 2000 point list except for a second Cryptek.

Models to build for 2000 pts: 11
Models to paint for 2000 pts: 27

Thanks for reading, all.

Thanks Scoundrel, and welcome. None in person for a while, I'm afraid, but I've got a 2 v 2 tomorrow on Tabletop Simulator. If I am able to paint a 2000 point army before playing with it, that will be a big first for me!

---------

Spent the weekend on the Nightbriniger. Basecoating the Immortals and warriors in between coats, not much to report there. But pretty happy with how Nightbringer is coming along.

It looks pretty dark in the photos. I've done a few layers of highlights and washes, trying to decide how bright to take the points of light on the chest and from the eyes/mouth. I really like this model. Lots of fun to paint. Definitely holds up. But the more time I spend with it the less it looks like a Necron model, haha. Hopefully the color scheme helps tie into the rest of my army!

The Nightbringer is looking real nice. I'd say the eyes and mouth could go a tad brighter. I agree with this model not looking Necron. I've always felt that this one, and a few others, don't fit very well with the Necron aesthetic. It's explained well enough in the lore, but tabletop army style wise, definitely stands out as different.

All your work looks great. I'm particularly amazed by how perfectly that bread bag clip fits as a cloak on your technomancer. I've seen those used as raw plastic for all sorts of things, but rarely if ever in such an unmodified way.

I agree, I think you'd benefit from lightening up his face currently. The face is currently lost in the hood, and the eye is drawn to the 6-pack, which are currently the brightest part.

Edit: tbf, the 6-pack is also a distinctive aspect of the Nightbringer, so that's not necessarily a BAD thing xD

Cheers, thanks for the feedback. I see why people go for the alternate C'tan, there's no shortage of great Nightbringer-esque models. That said I still love the model itself. Glad they didn't release them this edition, but wouldn't mind an update in the second. I think the Deceiver, because it's more alien-looking, works better, but the Void Dragon is the only one that looks like it's been captured and controlled by technology.

Really appreciate it! It's a bit of a budget conversion but that's been my goal with this army; quick and cheap to build, quick and cheap to paint.

Thanks Gwyn, you're right about the six-pack. I did a watered down wash of Nuln Oil/Biel-Tan Green and that helped.

------

Thanks for the feedback guys, thought I'd post the progress so far today. Took down the chest a bit and brightened up the face. Still trying to decide how bright to take it on the final model, if I should emphasize the glow coming from the inside of the mouth or take it back to black.

Speaking of things being dated, I think the 40 mm base looks way too small for such a top-heavy model (although not as top heavy as if it had been the pewter version, I'm sure!). I have a magnet on the base that can snap to this 60 mm plinth.

Lovely work on the nightbringer. He is a departure from the normal Necron aesthetic, but he works well in your colors and it helps that he looks a bit more muted. Makes him feel ancient, like he should.

Looking good Don. I reckon go for a really bright colour coming from the mouth as though it’s leaking energy

Thanks graven, I actually was a bit worried about how well it blended. I fiddled around with it a bit more in the final version, hope it still approves!

Cheers Viterbi, I wanted him to look similar but apart from the others, hence trying to keep the tones as muted as possible. I think he looks alright next to the troops!

That is just what I wanted to hear! Went brighter in the final model. It was tricky because I still wanted the eye to be the brightest point, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

Haha I'm glad you noticed, that scythe took a lot of patience and a couple of false starts. Even a bit of wet blending! Happy with the final result.

 MegaDave wrote:

Thanks MegaDave, I was turning the spooky-factor up as high as I could on this one. Nightbringer's a horrorshow.

Anyhow, here he is! A really fun model to paint. Lots of natural texture to take advantage of. It felt like it was painting itself.

Oh hey there,

Been a minute since I've posted. I found out that a research trip I'd thought had been postponed due to the pandemic was suddenly back on, and I had very little time to get everything together and get my butt to Belize. One very exhausting but very productive field season later, and we're back! I have missed hobby stuff. Starting out slow. I've been playing a lot of MCP lately on TTS and joined a local league, so I've been having fun with painting superheroes. It's nice to be able to focus on a single model and not worry about replicating a uniform color scheme. Anyway. Here's Venom!

Here's Crossbones. I like him in a Cabal/Syndicate list with Sin as squad leader. He's alright on the tabletop but I don't have any love for the character himself (I think he was part of the Thunderbolts when Luke Cage was leading them?) so I had fun with the color scheme. Ten points if you clock it.

Last up is Lockjaw. I know next to nothing about Inhumans but liked him a lot when he was teaming up with Ms. Marvel. This was almost entirely Contrast paints.

Looking forward to sharing more stuff over the next few weeks, including some game shots from the league. Thanks for reading all.
