Well none expects them to be a Debbie downer on their own product although I did get a genuine, honest laugh from "What a greater trailer!" after what was literally just putting the cover of a book on screen.

So after an hour and a half I've learned precisely 3 things.

1. There will be a 9th edition
2. Tanks can shoot in combat
3. Blast is a new weapon type can gets maxed shots, seemingly against hordes so likely against units with x models or more.

Everything else was marketing speal where they spent so much time ttrying to avoid giving away details they said absolutely nothing at all, for 90 minutes.

I've seen a lot of people praising the trailer but I fear I'm just not seeing it.

All I saw was a trailer showing that the new Necron units are worthless garbage with useless weapons, no self-repair ability, and are incapable of killing even a single Sister of Battle.

Or, to put it another way, NPC Xeno faction #1846 is inferior to every Imprium faction except for Imperial Guard. Boy oh boy, what a unique story.

In terms of the new Necron models, Warriors look passable but that new 3-legged thing looks awful. I appreciate them finally taking advantage of the fact that Necrons are machines by using less humanoid designs, I just wish they'd used a design that didn't look like it was based on the drawing of a 5-year-old. Why 3 legs? That just seems outright inferior to 4 and for no good reason. And why 3 arms? The blade-arm in particular looks like it serves no function beyond getting in the way of the gun-arm.

Frankly, the Necrons have looked stupid from the get go and they still do. Most people do not care about them, they like the badass Sister of Battle and the Primaris Marine who has finally been entrusted with a chainsword. Which indeed were awesome.

This is a pretty hot take. Necrons have been of the most popular, if not the most popular Xeno armies since their 5th edition codex.

Then why don't GW make an effort to make people care about them and up their anty, instead of doubling down on 'useless NPC cannon fodder to make power armour look BADASS and GLLORRIOOUUSS'?

I felt like they managed to make the Primaris take centre stage against the Death Guard without completely making the latter come off as ineffectual, even if the marketing back then was more limited.

You missed the two most important bits (three if you count the new Space Marines!) the reworked CP generation and terrain mattering again. If they don't feth these up they're major improvements.

But yeah, I was definitely expecting them to reveal more models, namely the new starter box.

On moon miranda.

Hrm, I'm having trouble getting enthused. My biggest issues with this edition will remain intact, primarily the insane levels of killing power and the need for 3+ books to play an army and GW slapping gobs of overlapping special rules to get units to operate how they want instead adjusting statlines or using a USR, and still not knowing what scale it wants to play at by trying to portray an individual Grot's pistol on the same table and rulespace as a Knight lance, Titan, Primarch, or tank company. Glad I skipped the stream, doesn't sound like there was really much of any value in a multi-hour event that couldn't be boiled down to a few minutes, and I find that style of stream (regardless of source/content) with painfully constructed excitement to be extremely irritating.

Also, the previews for the new models really look like something from a 3rd party "not-GW", that's not a ding on the quality of the sculpts one way or another, but the styling definitely has that look

On a related note, at this point in 40k's life I think SKU bloat is a serious thing to start worrying about for a variety of reasons. In older editions it was possible to basically memorize everything out there, and have that knowledge be good for years and really shaped iconic looks/units, and you would know that most of it would be on a shelf at the local game store. As time goes on, and especially with the increasingly derpy post-chapterhouse naming conventions, trying to recognize and remember everything is getting to be much more of a chore, many units have overlapping roles and functions and differentiation is driving serious power/special rules bloat and creating redundancies, and a local store maintaining stock of the entire line is going to be impossible, particularly as its all boxed sets and not blisters.

Well, triumvirate and triarch have some foundation in necron lore, it makes sense to incorporate the number 3 into elite necron units that are (presumably) related to it (certainly makes a lot more sense than Emperor of Man naming his vigintiarch sons "primarchs", lol).

Yes? How is this controversial? The latent psychic poential of humanity has been a thing in the setting since... forever. The Sisters of Battle has had literal divine intervention as part of their schtick since they started existing as an army.

Fair points. The new terrain rules will hopefully alleviate the former a bit whilst the app might help with the latter.

GW needs to tone down the hype or start delivering to match it. I think it would be better for business if people were excited instead of disappointed after previews.

I guess new edition is big news but I fail to see how this is bigger news than any of the previous editions. Also, other than couple of new models and a book cover, we didn't actually see anything that is coming.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

It almost like its a narrative sequence where the main character does not die from the same weapons that kill his of her comrades - wierd that. Also the Emperor Protects is a thing in and out of the Game.

She is obviously not a nomal Sister wielding a Power Sword and leading the others....

Marines and Sisters die fighting the Necrons, in almost the last image is a Necron sticking its blade through a Sister.

I think the biggest problem with these events is that they're intended for people that actually enjoy the hobby and not those who hate and criticise every single release and snippet of news.

Does GW not realise who their audience is? Instead of exuberant and enthusiastic hosts, they should use the most negative people possible. That way we can all tune in to watch them pick everything apart because they're woke and see GW for the tyrannical monster that it is.

I do think the Necron deserves some credit for cleaving the Sister's helmet in two without doing the same to the head beneath it.

Sisters CAN just pray away molecular disintegration though.
That's actually a legitimate tabletop aspect of sisters. Occasionally their faith allows them to no-sell basically any weapon in the setting. Thus the 6++.

And she's just a Sister Superior with a powersword. She might be a celestian but she's not a named character

Yeah, during the battle sequence marines get killed. Its not the one sided curb stomp between imperials and necrons people are making it out as.
Also note that other than the new fast spider cron, the only necrons getting killed are warriors and scarabs. You know, cannon fodder. And they still come across as a threat.

Re : The tripod
It is an odd design, I'm not sure what to think about it. I think they are trying to evoke War of the Worlds (three legged killing machines) and are probably going to hand wave it saying that its not built for speed or something, but its still a bit odd if you think about how it can move.
Is the fast version 3 or 4 legged? I could have sworn it had 4 legs in the video.
Edit : It does have 3 legs. Odd, but it doesn't seem to matter in universe. Its not the worst thing they did to necrons design wise, at least. They already did that in 5th ed.
Would look better with 4 legs though.

No, not at all. Tyranids have always been more popular than Eldar. They were easily the most popular Xenos race until they had a string of bad codexes.

Necrons have also been extremely popular since their 5th edition codex and were very popular throughout 5th and 6th. They only started to decline toward 7th and the recent issues in 8 with their poor codex.

On the other hand, GW has tried to do everything but update the craftworld range in an attempt to make the army popular. If Eldar were really that popular, they would have gotten a refresh of most of their model line a long time ago. As it is, most of it has been left to languish.

and... completely unenthused.

biggest shocker for me is how much billing sisters are getting alongside marines in the trailer, and that wore off when I recalled IG were in the trailer literally to get shot, and they just invested in a sisters line redesign.

silly necron things, check. big thingy for the silent king when i still don't think he should be on the field, delegating that to his honor guard instead, check.

9th friggin edition right as im debating putting my foot back into the game, thus shaking up the rules yet again and putting that on ice for however long... CHECK.

..the rules seemingly already readjusting what it may mean to play the army i was considering (Tempestus) despite barely having any information provided because of how they dripfeed the data... CHECK!

But hey, new necron warriors! (that price will be lovely, im sure) and a primaris with a chainsword!

didn't know we needed a new edition to give melee marines primaris....

Army: none currently.
