I also assume, the potential 180 day lead time is to allow for extreme circumstances (another UK lockdown/or partial lockdown with home working has potential - government is saying it won't happen, the NHS is saying it needs to happen... We've been here many a time now and it usually ends up happening), are probably producing more anyway as it is and the number of £150 orders is probably tailing off a bit so they can just fulfil it straight away, and since it's marked as a separate/split delivery, whoever it is that is fulfilling the Castus' is just ticking them off as they come in to get them out of the way and done.

If another UK lock down happens it likely won't affect GW's production capacity. What it will hit is more likely the shipping and delivery system. Snarling and slowing it up a bit and overloading it again.

I suspect delays aren't just for production to be made but also to account for slower global delivery systems right now. GW might well have to use slower than ideal shipping options to help keep rapidly rising costs down.

The fire on the cargo ship off Canada could have a further knock on effect on container availability. Every little doesn't help!

For a start, those warlord supply drops are actually good value unlike the special snowflake bait.

You're mixing your rants now.

Unsurprising you have no issue with FOMO in general tho.

For the record, I despise limited edition, special promo products and so on in all their shapes, and yes, KS campaigns that don't actually put products on the shelf (like Defiance from Corvus belli) are FOMO trash.

Although I love the Veermyn Tunnellers I picked up via a Mantic KS, I am aware that the shops close to me have either never stocked Mantic goods or stock has sat on the shelves for a long time. After all, what is the point of an FLGS stocking it when the majority of likely customers picked it up with a discount before the models were actually produced?

Not really.
Point out another company putting up a disgusting timed $420 AUD / 510 NZD paywall for a single miniature. Predatory scummy BS.

I mean yeah, they tried to make it out as if I was cherrypicking on GW but their dumb backfiring examples are exactly that.

Yes please compare to a monthly %50 off bundle deal to a $420 AUD / 510 NZD paywall for a single exclusive special snowflake castus miniature.

Ranty is back.

Misquoting again as well. I clearly stated that I was 'bored with you' not plain old 'bored'.

You still haven't answered if you have a general dislike of FOMO when used by any company or if it is just anti-GW bias.

Let's have a look at the Warlord October Supply Drop offer again.

It is an October offer but is no longer in stock. I cannot find any Terms and Conditions as to how many Supply Drops are available to customers. When in October did it go out of stock?

The deal states 50% extra free.

The individual items total £89.25 (or £85.24 if the book is a digital copy).

A customer, if they get in early for Fear Of Missing Out, pays £50.00 with £39.25 of product for free. That's not 50% free is it? For 50% free, the offer should cost £44.63.

Unless they mean you get at least £25 worth of stuff on top of the £50 paid but again, with no T&C, what is actually meant?

There you go. GW's Castus offer is less value than Warlord's Oct Supply Drop but there are clear T & Cs, every qualifying spend will receive a Castus and the offer lasted for the whole period advertised.

Warlord's offer doesn't appear to give 50% free and appears to have an arbitrary, unspecified end criteria thereby increasing the FOMO. Customers will likely be on the website on 1 Nov hoping they get the sale goodies rather than Missing Out. What's worse, all of the individual items are still available on the store therefore, by what measure has the offer 'Sold Out'?

Still, you make me laugh because you appear to waste so much time spouting bile at a company you seem to despise. It's funny that a toy soldier company is in your head space so much.

Some of the voice actors are really excellent, it's not their fault the source material is so mediocre to awful. When you get a good actor reading a great story it actually works out pretty well (eg John Banks reading Chris Wraight).

I agree with you. I was referencing Shakespeare and the less inspired Black Library authors, not the voice actors. You're correct that the actors generally perform to a high standard, even when the material doesn't. I'd never call them "idiots." And frankly, it was unfair and unnecessarily nasty of me to insinuate that anyone who writes for BL is an idiot. My apologies.

My personal favorite voice actor is Martyn Ellis reading the abridged version of the first three Horus Heresy books; I just wish he'd also done the unabridged version. Toby Longworth is very talented, if a little overused, but Ellis really nailed it. Truthfully, I've listened to more Black Library audios than is probably healthy. A good many were mediocre, but the gems were so good that the investment has been well worth my time, among them audios like Aenarion, Perfection, Honour to the Dead, Slayer of the Storm God, and anything Martyn Ellis recorded (I wish they still hired him, assuming he's not deceased. No one has ever done Horus better.)

After all, Kickstarter campaigns generally have a 'FOMO' element, to wit, KS exclusives and stretch goals.

Warlord Games, for example, used to have an exclusive miniature dependent on you buying Rulebooks from them. They also have a monthly 'Supply Box' that, in the case of October, is no longer available because it is a while stocks last offer.

So again, do you have a general dislike of FOMO or is it just aimed at GW offers?

To be fair, offering certain incentives of special/limited stuff is fine, but fomo new release/get in a queue to ensure you secure yours, pre orders seems to make up the entire basis of GW business model at this point

I'm changing my stance, GW shouldn't include Castus in the expensive orders, they should include randomized boxes where the generated probabilities are partially determined by order total, including both uniquely inaccessible kits and some real duds like overstock of dated snap-fit tactical marines. Also who knows what the print runs are? Some are strictly limited, some should go back in stock or change availability arbitrarily or maybe become general releases or maybe some are unique tournament-legal characters and some of those will be OP or terrible or great new xenos kits, and of course loads more lieutenants. That way, every order is a surprise and a game too. All hail GW's toy-marketing schemes, it's good for the kids.

Seriously, though, it's just a space man with a big base, GW could do so much worse than FOMO steppin on necrons dude.

Going slightly OT - you can walk into a GW store and get free models. They all have a Primaris and Stormcast to give out, and recently they've been giving away other models as well - the last one was Assault Intercessors to tie-in with the Black Black Templars.
(Disclaimer: I am aware some Managers will only give these out to new players, but that's not a blanket GW policy)

As someone working outside of the UK at the moment with limited and patchy internet, I have little to no chance of being among the first to order the new Kill Team box in the queue system.

However, having recognised that, as long as I can get my order in at sometime over the weekend, GW will honour my purchase. It may take 180 days to arrive but seeing as I'm not necessarily going to be home until Jan 22, that's not so much of an issue for me.

Not ideal but there is a process in place to ensure I can get a box if I decide to purchase it. Certainly not as good as it being a permanently available product but if a customer is patient, they will receive it.

Not ideal if you don't have the funds available though.

What gives? It's been 11 days since I placed the order! Probably the strangest part is that I got Castus first; as I said, I fully expected to wait a couple of months for him.

Speculation, but they would split Castus off your main order right away for lack of stock and process the latter in chronological order with whatever wait time that involves. Since they have to make extra Castuses and probably planned ahead for the possibility, they'd keep a production slot open to make a batch every so often and send it out right away. Since it's a separate order in their management system and only includes the single item, it could easily get sorted in bulk and sent out ahead of the main order if the batch arrives shortly after you place your order or there's an unexpected holdup on some of the main items.

For made to order and other specially produced items GW from what I've seen lists the the latest time they reasonably expect to wrap up production when informing customers of the possible time frame they have to wait, but often enough get there ahead of schedule. It's more about not raising unrealistic expectations they can't fulfill than actually believing most orders will take that long.

Yeah I get that. I didn't expect it to take the full 180 days or anything but I also didn't expect it that quick. Not that I'm complaining of course! What I am debating complaining to GW about is that it's been 12 days now since I placed my order, for items that were all in stock, and apparently they are just sitting on their hands since it's still just Pending. I'm in the US so Brexit shouldn't be causing any issues (plus they have a major warehouse on this side of the pond). Have there been a lot of delays for US customers?

This seems like something that senders should've been holding FedEx accountable for, unless they were made aware it was a possibility up-front.

I'm in a slightly similar boat to Zerg - placed my order on the 27th, with the understanding it'd be in three parts - normal stock, a couple of Steel Legion squads, and Castus, each with their own potential timeframe.

Got an email from them yesterday about the timeframe on the Steel Legion being 35 days, that this might hold other parts of the order up, and did I want to do anything about that - no big deal, as I'd said to ship parts of the order when they were available.

About an hour after that email came through, Royal Mail rocked up with two parcels for me - the in stock items, and Castus. Without me having received a shipping notification, as far as I can see.

You'd think they'd be aware that the Steel Legion squads are the only outstanding items, so that email wasn't needed, wouldn't you?

I'm having a similar problem, but with the two LE models from July. I ordered them on the 24th and they say 120 days to ship. It's coming up on that date and I haven't received notification of them being shipped, there's no tracking number attached to them, and yet they've been labeled as "Dispatched" since the same time as the regular part of the order, which came the week after I placed it.

I finally emailed customer service about it a few days ago. Still waiting on a response.

I'm waiting on the Necron Lord dude from whenever he was, but both Castus and the Warhammer Day Lt. came through within a couple of days of ordering, which was surprising.

M2O Steel Legion are also still in the "waiting" pile, but that's less of a shock.

My Vampire model came very swiftly the other week; but I waited a long time for Ripper Jackson to turn up for me. I think for these GW is casting them in batches and sending them out as and when they can rather than doing one big push all in one go. Which likely fits with GW being under production pressure right now.

So some people will get them super fast, others will end up waiting.

When I ordered the new Lieutenant it said "120 day turnaround time", so I figured it'd be like the Sister of Battle and Termy Librarian they did a while back, in that they'll arrive, but not right away. I ordered the Dread Pageant at the same time, and the order had them listed as separated packages, likely because of the 120 days thing.

Then I get two separate shipping notices. The Dread Pageant arrives, and then the Lieutenant arrives the next day. Not sure why they had to send them in separate packages given that they were both ready to go at the same time.

So they're being sent, just not in a way that makes any sense to me.

As for Sergeant Castus, well, my one was bought via a third party who got his instantly after making the required order, but he's in the UK so it's maybe a different story?

Dark Angels: ~16000 | Space Marines (Blood Ravens and others): ~900 | Space Wolves: ~3800
Astra Militarum: ~800 | Officio Assassinorum: ~600 | Imperial Knights: ~1300 | Sisters of Battle: ~1900

Then I get two separate shipping notices. The Dread Pageant arrives, and then the Lieutenant arrives the next day. Not sure why they had to send them in separate packages given that they were both ready to go at the same time.

So they're being sent, just not in a way that makes any sense to me.

It's likely because each individual order (or split delivery order) generates an individual "ticket" in their warehouse for packing. So even if they are ordered back to back and at the same time and are going out the same time, the ticket to pack each one might be picked up by a different member of warehouse staff. GW aren't alone, Amazon and other stores will do the very same thing because when it filters through to the back-end its multiple staff getting the instructions. Staff are also likely trained to ignore multiples even from the same address because of the chance that they make a mistake (multiple orders to the same block of flats/area where the difference might be an easily missed number); or because customers want them in separate parcels for whatever reason.

I do agree there "should" be ways to recombine orders, but it might not be as simple to put into practice for the back-end of larger firms with multiple staff without resulting in errors.

I received an email response saying that they had changed their processing system, which caused some delays.

I got a similar email. Here's hoping it's all fixed and our stuff comes in soon!

I'm waiting on the Necron Lord dude from whenever he was, but both Castus and the Warhammer Day Lt. came through within a couple of days of ordering, which was surprising.

In positive news, Necron Dude arrived today. Just missed the end of a work call, at least.

This is, emphatically, why I will continue suggesting nuking Guard and starting over again. It's a legacy army that needs to be rebooted with a new focal point.
