Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I installed Skyrim yesterday. I clocked about 40+ hours on the PS3 version, but gave that up a while ago. With my new PC I thought getting Skyrim would be a good idea. So far I've got SKSE, BOSS and the Nexus Mod Manager plus all the unofficial patches in the right load order. Tonight we start installing some actual mods, and then we start playing.

Skyrim is one of those games were the flaws become more evident every time you play. I got to level 30 on my first character, then on subsequent playthroughs I usually quit to refresh the experience between levels 6-10. Literally by the time you've got Leather/Steel armour, or Steel weapons, the game stagnates in terms of gear variation for hours. At best, you'll pick up maybe a Daedric Artifact or enchanted Steel/Iron weapon, but honestly it just bores me to tears.

Using alternate start mods with themes is pretty fun, say starting with crap stats, no Helgen mission stat gain, and only the items of a peasant. Still gets boring after a couple of hours though.

I have not gotten very far, but are we talking like a immensly large game, or something a lot shorter?

Not sure if Col. Dash is playing the same game as me? It's pretty much exactly D'n'D 3.5, the only big differences are wizards having "spell points" rather than uses per day, which given the combat heavy nature of MMORPGs wouldn't have worked. But all the feats and skills are there, and you can definitely multiclass- I've got a Ranger 3/Rogue1 so that I can spot, listen, hide and open locks and disable traps.

It's not 4th edition at all!

Though it wouldn't be terrible if it was, either, 4th would be well suited to an MMO.
What I like about it is the fact that when I clear a dungeon, it is cleared forever. It makes me feel like I'm having an effect on the game world, unlike WoW. Also the quests tend to be slightly more interesting than the average WoW fetch quest.

I also like the art style, because it means the game can run on my crappy laptop!

Try tier IX-X on a free account...especially a ST-I which has no shared modules at all so you have to grind everything and you start with a gun that can barely penetrate on tier tanks, never mind tier Xs and which loses you credits nearly every game due to your low damage output and the sheer cost of ammo and repairs. 'Only' 60k exp to go though before I get a tier X gun.....

In fact I think the worst tank to grind is the 38TNA as its classed as a light tank so it ends up in tier VII games all the time. The problem is that its far too slow to be a scout and its gun and armour are completely ineffectual agains tier Vi and above. I eventually gave up even trying and used free EXP to buy a Pz IV. The sad thing is that its a good medium tank, it just rarely find itself in tier IV games.

A really, really good Tier IV to get is the Hetzer, its an absolute monster with the 105mm gun.

Its a good game and I enjoy it but good god the grind.....

After experiencing the grind of IV to V, I am under no illusion whatsoever that it'll get any less frustrating with higher tiers, nor even stay close to the same as it currently is.

You don't really need to go past tier V/VI though, the higher tiers are basically the same except that matches are slower paced due to long reload times and the need to aim more carefully. Most of my favourite tanks are tier VI and below (KV-1/2, Hetzer, M4,AT2, Hellcat, T18..). My KV-2's crew are on their 4th skill advance now....

The secret to enjoying the game IMO is to ignore the grind, you will get there eventually.

What tank were you grinding by the way?

Vanilla, and I prefer House Julii (I know more about the Roman style of warfare than Greek, being a history buff), though i have been trying to find a skin for the spartan hoplites, they don't look anything like they are described in historical texts.

Yeah, considering that Roman formations where much more flexible (along with most highly trained Military) compared to others in the Ancient Known World. And I agree, the vanilla skin they had for the Spartans not only did not match, but looked relatively silly as well.

Pretty much, though my favourite tank is hands down the AT7. Still shrugs off most fire coming your way and has an accurate and fast gun.

Its slow and has massive weak spots, its not one of my favourites

When the British TD line was first released I held the right flank of Himmelsdorf solo against 6 enemies (I ended up killing 4 of them) with an AT2 simply because no one had worked out to shoot the cupola......sadly this is no longer the case

I prefer 'derp gun' TDs, my current favourite is the SU152, its one of the few tanks were the stock gun is superior to the other 'better' options

I loved the weapon mods in Mass Effect 1.

Spectre sniper rifle with High-Ex rounds. It would overheat on every shot but DAMN; when it hit it was like a tank round!

I started playing Far Cry 2 again last night; it's pretty fun so far, but the AI can be a bit derpy.

For the Brits I want the Comet mainly. For Germans I want the Panther, Tiger, and Jagdpanther. For the USSR I want the T-34 (76 & 85), KV-1, SU-85, and SU-100 (although the T-54 is one of my all-time favourite tanks, so it'd be great if I could get that). US I want the Hellcat.

It's really not a matter of wanting a single Tier X, it's wanting so many Tier V-VIIs.

The Cromwell is like the Comet, but better and the rest are easy enough to get (the SU100 was quite disappointing though). The Hellcat is a bit annoying as its pretty poor until you get the 90mm gun so the grind isn't much fun.

I've not really bothered with the German line, my highest German vehicle is the Hummel which is tier VI. I played them quite a lot in the beta but I never really liked them all that much. I should probably get myself a Tiger at some point though

When you get the KV-1 you need to at least try out the 57mm gun, it has good penetration for its tier and has a very fast RoF, mine gets a round off every 1.98 seconds with a fully trained crew and a rammer. Basically its a 57mm machine gun and its an absolute murder machine against tier V and below. Most people get all misty eyed with the 85mm but I would urge you try try out the 57mm, its genuinely great. At least it is usually, when the match maker puts you up against tier VIIs there isn't much that you can do other than track them (if you are lucky).

What bothers me about the BG:Evil bit is how it seems to punish you for being evil mean at almost every turn, rather than give you extra money and expedite your quests at a cost of lost morality and potential future consequences. Usually it's just get into a fight instead of not, or don't get a rep point.

Seems like you're either playing it BG:Good or BG:Opportunistic, going flat out evil madman just gets you into trouble.

Still, I'm due an evil run... Maybe a thief mage, or cleric mage... either seems to compliment the bg2 evil characters. Still have yet to do the Hexxat and Dorn quests.
