I finished my current 2000 point Lumineth army on Easter Sunday. This isn't the full force, but I like taking these silly photos of my army and making people look at them like they're my kids' photos.

Sexy, very sexy About the only criticism i have would be to give the base rims a brush of paint. Right now they look a bit dirty and it's detracting away from the overall model.

I really like it actually, it really looks like an army beyond just a bunch of minis with the same paint scheme.

I finally finished my first unit for AoS, a unit of five Stormcast Eternals Liberators:

The paint scheme is actually the Lions of Sigmar, as seen in the Battletome. I figured they looked reasonably close to the classic Hammers of Sigmar scheme, yet different because they have purple instead of blue. I also had fun doing the swampy bases; these are perhaps the most elaborate bases I've ever done on miniatures before (which isn't saying much, as I tend to go fairly minimalist).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

The effort paid off; those bases really make the models pop.

I've got 4 models to finish my Maggotkin - The wings of 2 Pusgoyles, a gnarlmaw, and the Glottkin. I'm debating about ordering 6 toads to make Beasts of Nurgle and going for a Befouling Host.

Been on lazy painting mode lately but now put gear on gloomspite git themed terrain. 4 weeks to do it and still need to print some pieces...

If i can get my printer working well will have so much fun with terrain.

More Stormcast troops join my army, this time a unit of Vindictors:

These guys were even more fun to paint than my Liberators; easily my favorite of the various Redeemer units that Stormcast can take.

Getting back to the tree people. On the one hand, I wish I could go back and suddenly have all my Sylvaneth stripped and reprimed to do it all over with Contrasts... On the other hand, that's 4000+ points to repaint.

Not really a project per-se, but....
This weekend I finally got my Stormcast force it's dedicated case. A Battlefoam 720 with Magna Rack.

Spent about 5 minutes assembling the rack & another hour (in-between taking my turns while playing a board game) magnetizing the minis it'll hold.

No ideas yet as to what I want this Spirit of Durthu to be "summoning"...

I'm hedging a bet that there will be "Treelord traits", since it's been a Big Deal in other battletomes and I cannot see a reason why they would not do a similar thing for Sylvaneth.

Could be for it's shooting attack? Depends how you interpret it. Laser beams? Summoning an explosion of vines beneath the targets feet?

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Hey folks - had a beginner/newbie question and wasn't sure where to post, hopefully it's ok to post here.

I have started collecting some bits for the Tzeentch Chaos force (I have the army book). What crossover is permitted with the Slaves to Darkness book? I wanted to add some Tzeentch-themed Chaos Warriors and possibly Knights. Wanted to check if this is permitted in the rules before I shell out for the book. Very grateful if anyone knows!

The Disciples of Tzeentch book has the coalition rule which covers that. You don't need the Slaves to Darkness book, just the warscrolls in question which are free on the app.

For 2023 I'm contemplating rebuilding my Skaven.
Many many ages ago this was the army I dreamed of running. Being as a poor college student the price tag was way out of reach at the time.... So I settled on something else (Chaos) to start with.
Then as income went up over the years I built out dwarves, elves, goblins, etc etc etc. And yes, there was a mishmash of Skaven. Playable, but never really what I'd 1st envisioned & always taking the back seat to other WHFB/40k/Sigmar projects. And War Cry + Kill Team squads these past two years. And forces for several other non-GW games.....
I'm thinking it's time to properly revisit the rat-men.

Other than that there's just the ongoing painting of stuff.

Built the first of Hargax's Pit-Beasts, the Fomoroid Crusher. He's quite a big chap, I must say!

Only issue I have with the box set is that it's intended for Age of Sigmar but comes with Warcry instructions. Nothing wrong with that but it would have been good if they included warscroll rules for each monster.

Of course while pondering my Skaven project, what do I do?

Make a few Skaven lists,
Price the units needed,
And.....

Decide that 2023 is the year I finally get around to revamping part of my old Wood Elf army.
Specifically the Wild Rider mounts.

I've just never been happy with the old plastic body/metal head Wild Rider horses my units came with back in 6th (7th?) WHFB (whichever edition they were "new" in)
Every time I've played them over the years I always say "I need to replace those mounts".
Game ends, I don't play the wood elves for another year or two.... Repeat process.....

Until last week. Pulled out the WE case again.
And again those ugly horses* are looking back at me.
Game ends.
I go home & spend $ that should be going to the Skaven project bitz ordering enough of the current stag mounts to revamp all 40 of my Wild Rider models at once.
(Slightly expensive, but still cheaper than ordering the same # of new kits via my local shop)

*The metal riders are fine. Those are staying. But those hybrid horses just gotta go.

Tonight my 2023 Skaven project took a huge leap towards completion.

Over the past few weeks I've been more properly sorting hobby stuff following last years move. This afternoon I found a shoebox labeled WHFB Project: (??? something - an unreadable smudged abbreviation) '17.
Opening it? I find it chock full of plastic Skaven! Mostly unbuilt. In fact, it's 2 complete Skaven halves of that Elf/Skaven WHFB starter!

Evidently I'd started my Skaven project back in 2017 - and shelved + forgot about it as that year devolved into my Dad falling critically ill & then dying in Hospice. And then dealing with the estate, grief, etc.
(this isn't the only project from that year I've found buried & forgotten about btw....)

Been diving into the Slapchop method of painting - and it has properly kicked up the Age of Sigmar side of things. A lot of armies seem really built for it.

These Maggotkin were the work of, what, 3-4 hours-ish? Start to finish, with a bit of drying time for the bases.

Slapchop gets my full recommendation. If you find yourself getting less than motivated over the painting of a new project, it really is worth checking out.

I grabbed the Seraphon army box when it dropped and built up my Slann. It's been a while since I've been really proud of a paint job so I was beyond happy that it turned out exactly how I'd wanted. My favorite bit was all the little critters.

My Skaven project is nearly done builing wise.
all I have to do is finish assembling a Plague Furnace & a vintage Doom Wheel I found buried in a storage box.

The Doom Wheel I'll actually have to paint before I fully assemble it as there's no way I'll be able to get to the interior details well enough otherwise.

With the Slapchop method of painting, I am very much getting my second wind on Age of Sigmar. Currently looking at doing a Bloodtoof army with 30 pigs led by a Megaboss on Maw-Krusha. Comes in at just under 2,000 points I think. Who needs magic when you have a wave of pigs?
