1. Warring States
2. Move to US manufacturing. So much product of what the US consumes is made outside the US. I'd like more of it manufactured domestically.

What triggered this was buying one of those large plastic household storage containers for hobby storage. It was made in the UK, and my thought was, "Is the state of US manufacturing so pathetic we cannot design and produce a glorified tupperware any more?"

Lord Marcus. Can you tell us anything about the Death Fields sprue at this time?

You bought the wrong bins then, 100% of Sterilite bins are made in the USA as are about 80% of Rubbermaids. Ultimately, caring about where something is manufactured simply for the sake of being able to say that you consume domestically is meaningless tribalism. The real benefit to domestic production here is for designers/creators/producers (IMO). Its about accessibility for small and independent designers and publishers - theres a lot of hidden costs and challenges - needing to hire translators, overseas inspectors, travel to china for design reviews and progress inspections, etc. etc. etc. If you're a small time shop or independent designer thats a lot for one person to undertake on their own and the expenses of outsourcing all that to someone else that knows how to navigate all that is considerable. Moving all of that in-country dramatically cuts a lot of steps and people out of the process and lowers the costs and coordination involved, the costs may still be out of reach for many, but it becomes just a bit more achievable for a one-man shop to aspire to, the number of steps involved, middlemen you have to work with (i.e. $$$ you have to spend), hoops you need to jump through, etc. have been dramatically reduced.

If you're capable of sculpting to industrial standards and have some investment funding (or a kickstarter campaign) under your belt you can conceivably partner with WGA for tooling and have them pump out 20,000 sprues of a kit for you, hire an FTL/LTL freight firm to haul and unload 3-4 pallets worth of this stuff over to your garage from Florida/Georgia (per facebook), package the sprues in large ziploc baggies with a simple product sticker on it and sell direct through your webstore. If you want a more professional and polished product, you can go through WGA for box design, or if you're willing to take on a bit more responsibility for yourself you can partner with any number of other packaging firms spread across the US to print your packaging materials for you and ship that to your garage as well and do the assembly yourself. If you're trying to go to retail then you might need to hire a few hands (and probably rent space in a warehouse), etc. to get your stuff out to distribution channels (this is the point at which I would advise people to partner with WGA or other companies to handle fulfillment if you don't have the existing funds and personnel to manage that extra complexity yourself - but either way a lot of the barriers involved with Chinese manufacturing are gone once your re-shore things into the local neighborhood).

The US manufacturing is great news, I'm definitely most excited about that. But the warring states Chinese is quite a welcome surprise. Though I have no need of them, it's great to see a new period available in plastic.

This is the era that proceeds the golden age of China, the Han dynasty. This is an era not be confused as well with the Three Kingdoms era.

After the Zhou ‘dynasty’ (during which there were many independent states/vassals) but before the unification under Qin.
The Warring States period had the seven major states fighting for primacy. Towards the middle and end of the period the other states realized that Qin was the most powerful and the greatest threat and tried to band together, but Qin diplomacy managed to break the alliances made against them and so swallowed their rivals one by one, the last state surrendering peacefully since they realized resistance was foolish. The Qin dynasty is considered the start of an unified China, and the name China is derived from Qin. However, the Qin dynasty was short-lived, only 15 years, but it had set the tone for much of what was to follow in China's history.

The Han dynasty which overthrew the Qin (and gave its name to the majority populace of China, the Han people), lasted for about 400 years, dissolving into the Three Kingdoms period which is usually better known since a number of games have it as their setting.

The Empire, long united, must divide,
The Empire, long divided, must unite.

Opening of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms

One nifty thing about those Warring States renders is the "dagger-axe" bits, which was an early Chinese polearm, and characteristic of the Warring States and the Spring and Autumn Period (Just prior to the Warring States Period and had such luminaries as Confucius and Sun Tzu).

As much as I want to see this project happen, I am trying to be "cautiously optimistic". WGA is running behind on the Aztecs, Conquistadors, Boxers, Spanish Napoleonic, and Gurkhas. [The Gurkhas were announced early in this thread, but have since gone dark.] Let's hope WGA can produce these kits.

Re: or alternatively, whenever china breaks apart. By that definition you can then apply the term to various interregums in various places and times, not just China!

Excellent post on BC era Chinese history

How are that mace head and the shoulder pad with arrows castable? Even with soft moulds, they seem like they would be impossible. I guess the shoulder pad could have holes in it for the arrows to slot into, but the mace just seems like it would need to be three or four pieces, which is way too fiddly for something that size, and presumably would show visible joins even in a test print (unless they just stick the pieces together in CAD and then print an assembled version).
Also, what's the out-of-focus thing behind the troll? Could just be a random piece of equipment sitting around the studio, but it looks vaguely like some kind of vehicle model.

I guess we found the reason so.many kits have to go into retooling, eh?

I really hope they can make that mace work. I really like the detailing on that troll. Shame they went with the head growing from the chest look though. So bloody stupid. Worst thing to come from GWs orks...

I'd guess it's a sphere with integrated spikes along the equator, then with the extras cast separately and added on (possibly with molded slots to make it easy) during assembly. Like the arrows presumably are.

I'm curious as to the female model, as well. I don't see any sci-fi bits, armor, or obviously magic/adventure-y details, so some sort of townsfolk/civilian sprue, maybe? Or something for those resistance fighters, maybe? She's got something with a square back in her hand.

Nice! Personally, i was considering buying the space dorfs myself, but now that the accessory sprue has been teased, i'm waiting for that to be relased to get both in one fell swoop.

Hum, I wonder if there's a reason we've seen the Panzer Lehr sprue but not the Death Fields Accessory ones, even though they're on similar stages of completion.
