Hi guys! Ive seen quite a few people being sad because theres no model for the Colossus Siege Mortar for imperial guard artillery. Well, by name no, there are none that exist. But forge world has a unit called an Imperial Bombard, and it is almost exactly the same.
Examples below.
My question is, based off the picture in the codex, and the forge world model, would it be easy enough to convert a Bombard so its cannon is forward on the tank, into a Colossus?
Sure, we wont get any counts as issues if we use a straight up bombard as a Colossus, but personally I like the forward gun on the Colossus picture. If anyone has had experience with the Imperial Bombard model, Id love to hear about it. Lastly, i assume this is the place for this topic, sorry if its not

I used the Bombard gun and center section with the side pieces of a Chiera, worked fairly well, IMO. Pics at:

had to do a little cut and fill on the inner side pieces of the tread assemblies, but all in all a very simple and easy conversion (had to be, I managed it).

Wait wait wait, I was unaware that the Bombard had rules at all. I must also note it CANNOT be used in a normal game, as it is not in the Imperial Guard codex.
I was posting to see if anyone managed to convert the bombard INTO a Colossus, which was my original query. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Yeah, not what i was looking for. I was wondering if it was possible to get the gun to the front more.
Also, your pictures confuse me. Dont you get treads with the bombard anyway? why use chimera treads?

Is the Bombard based of a chimera hull?
If so, you should have no problems using it just as is.
If it isn't, then depending on the size you may need some conversion work.

The Colossus has AV 12/10/10 open-topped, so it certainly ain't on a Leman Russ chassis (ala the Bombard).
You could easily move the gun forward, it's all a matter of where you cut the inner tread assembly. I'd probably put it an inch or so forward if I was doing it again.

Cool, and yeah to answer your question gwar it is exactly the same hull as any other artillery unit in the IG, which means its entirely legal to field, i just wanted to see if anyone had moved the gun forward into the cooler position (see first picture)

That first picture looks like a Chimera chassis while it looks like the Bombard is using the Lemann Russ chassis. My guess is that you would have to put it more "forward" if you were going with the Chimera hull.

It looks like GW art department took the bombard blueprint and shoved it on a chimera pattern as far forward as possible so the crane and breach weren't completely overhanging the rear of the vehicle and unbalancing the poor little workhorse.
If you like the coolness of the collossus then try it out. It may require some plasticard work to widen the base of the Chimera (if needed) and to cover nay gaps but should fit okay.

Nope, no plasticard work needed. Just assemble the Bombard section, assemble two Chimera side assemblies. cut the inner facing of the side assemblies to make a spot for the bombard to slide into, and then slide the side assemblies into the bombard sides. Quick and easy.

I might be a bit old school but i never thought that the bombard from fw had a gun big enough, i'd never complain about someone using it as a colossus, apart from the shape of the tracks it basically the same.
As for converting it, looking at the images i'm not sure it's such an easy cut and stick job, i think you'd need to take off the track mounts and make new ones with plasticard to fit the different shape track unit (the bridge bit that fit's aover the track). If the chimera chasis still has the back open (I assume it does as they still make basilisks with the same kit) then it shouldn't be too difficult to push the gun forward on the tracks, as i said just need to make a new mount to fit the flat top edge rather than the angled rear edge the FW kit fits onto the russ with.
Hope that makes sense....

I've been eyeing that Bombard kit for years and never noticed it was on a Russ chassis. Personally, I'd be fine if anyone plopped this down and called it a collosus.
@Mondo- Which version of Chimera did you use for your conversion? If you used the old kit, are there any noticeable differences with the new kit that could cause issues?

I'm not guessing. I've done it. I'm telling you exactly what I did. Look at my earlier post for links to pictures of the end results. It really was that simple. Really.
@gamble. I used the old Chimera kit, I doubt that the new one is different enough to matter. Haven't assembled a new kit as I have enough Chimearas as it is.

I wasn't saying you haven't, I was commenting on the conversion as the OP would like to do it - further forward on the hull than yours, and so I stand by what I said that the track bridges would need re-construcing to match the new track shape. Sorry, maybe that wasn't clear in my post.
