I don't know why, but this has been on G4 a few times in the last week or two. I think it's a pretty underrated movie, and one of the few non-horror films of Carpenter. Pretty decent cast - Harry Dean Stanton, Ernest Borgnine, and Kurt Russell. It's one of those movies where I always have to stop and watch it for a little bit.

I agree, Ive always been a fan of both Escape movies. I think Kurt Russels portrayal of Snake is pretty damn good, I mean really hes an over the top anti hero.
Dammit now Ive got to dig mine out and watch it

Yup!

That move rocks!

You also forgot Lee Van Cleef (from the good the bad and the ugly), Isaac Hayes (great musician, and Chef from southpark), and Adrienne Barbeau (Swamp thing... need I say more!)

One of the best carpenter movies ever... right behind Big Trouble in Little China.

It is to my eternal shame that I didn't watch Escape From New York until after I played Metal Gear Solid 2 and someone told me that Solid Snake's name was a reference to it.

Great, great movie.

I've been watching it on G4 everytime it comes on. It's a great movie, Snake Plissken is awesome.
Also, I heard they were doing a remake of the movie with Josh Brolin. Anybody know anything more then that?

My mom took me to see this, when I was a kid, in the early 80's. On of my alltime greatest theater experiances as a kid. Ranks right up there with Star Wars, Indiana Jones and ET.

Really? I heard Gerard Butler.

Leave it be I say. Far too many remakes about atm.

The legendary Bruce Campbell iirc.

I was always impressed by the amount of differing transports Snake managed to make use of in the films, especially as only having one eye would have really affected his depth of vision.

Snake Plisken...I heard you were dead.

That, Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing are the holy Russell/Carpenter trinity.

Hollywood keeps making stupid remakes because they're low-risk. Sure wish they'd leave classics like EfNY alone, though.
