Harry Potter-themed Chaos Marine Army

HQ
Daemon Prince of Tzeench: Dumbledore

Elite
6 Terminators: Order of the Phoenix (Moody, Shacklebolt, Sirius, Remus, Tonks, Arthur Weasley)
6 Chosen: Ministry 6 (Potter, Granger, Longbottom, Lovegood, Ginny & Ron Weasley)

Troops:
10 Khorne Berzerkers: Gryffindors (McGonagall & 9 students)
10 Noise Marines: Hufflepuffs (Sprout & 9 students)
10 Thousand Suns: Ravenclaws (Flitwick & 9 students)
10 Plague Marines: Slytherins (Snape & 9 students)
Spawn: Fluffy

Heavy Support:
3 Obliterators: The Ministry (Fudge, Umbridge, Weatherby)
Land Raider: Hogwarts Express
Defiler: Hagrid

Fast Attack:
7 Raptors: Gryffindor Quidditch Team (Katie Bell, Angelina Johnson, Cormac McLaggen, Alica Spinnet, Fred & George Weasley, Oliver Wood)

That's the base army: add champions, weapons and Rhinos as desired, and you could upgrade people (e.g. Potter as a Chaos Lord). I have two questions:

1) How’s this look as a playable army, and what additions would you suggest? What selections of weapons and transports would help?

2) What else fits into the Harry Potter theme? Norbert could be another spawn, and perhaps another Troops choice of Durmstrang/Beubaxtons students.

Thank you.

....wow.

the only theme I would encourage involving harry potter would be slaaneshi, involving hermione.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

Oh dear...
Codex CSM has been tortured enough IMO.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Nice contributions community. You rock!

OP, if you want the list to be competitive, you're likely going to need some transports for your units. Walking MEQs will get shot up and ripped to pieces well before they get to prime gun range. I'd see if you wan't find a way to do that.

As for the Harry Potter theme... the flying car? Voldemort? Whomping Willow? Sirius as a werewolf? I'm sure there's a few things you could throw in there.

Yeah, the army looks very newbish.

Since you don't seem to have a points limit in mind, I'd suggest buying the Land Raider as a transport for your Termies (it doesn't mater that the squad is too big, they aren't actually going to ride in it), getting yourself some more Oblits, and Rhinos for your troops. I am not very familiar with Harry Potter, so I'm not sure how to make those fit your theme, but those changes would make the list a bit more competitive.

Other things:
-Your raptors need to pick a job. Meltas for tank hunters, Flamers for anti-infantry. The same is true for your Terminators and your Chosen.
-If you are going to use all of the cults, then make sure they have a defined role. I would suggest Doombolt for the Sons, Meltas for the Plague Marines, a Doomsiren and maybe a few Blasters for the Noise Marines, and perhaps a Powerfist for the Berserkers. Also, at least two of these squads need icons if you plan on Deep Striking the Termies or the Raptors.
-No spawns. Whatever Fluffy is, it shouldn't be on the field as a spawn.
-Tzeench DPs are pricey, but I would suggest wings, Warptime, and WoC. You might consider taking a second DP to help dilute some incoming fire. Currently you have a Land Raider, a Defiler, and one DP to soak it all up. With the points level this is turning out to be, you will likely get blown away rather quickly. Even if you take Rhinos for your troops, there are still not many targets for the tank killers.
-Over all not a bad list. The theme seems to be bothering people, though. Have you given any thought as to how you will model them so that your opponent has any idea what he is fighting?

Harry Potter should be an HQ, maybe a Sorcerer? I like this lol, maybe make Hagrids Dragon be a Greater Summoned Demon? And the 4 ghosts as summoned daemons? You could model them pretty well too.

Funny thing is that i used to play a simmilar list to that (without the harry potter them) and it kicked ass.

My theme was "black crusade" and i had Abbadon in the place of Dumbledore.

Whats with all the Harry Potter bashing BTW, i'd put money on all of you having read at least one of the books and enjoying it/them.

Meh, Harry Potter isn't my ideal topic of choice...but I also don't think its too entirely terrible. I found it mostly bearable when I watched the dvd's at a friends home.

As for the list...what are you really trying to build to? Like stated before by Groslon, you don't have a points limit. Is this a list of what you want to own or what you want to field in a game? I see your list getting newb-stomped rather quickly without any sort of focus.

While Harry Potter is nothing I am interested in, it is pretty popular, and so be it. I will respect that, unless...

It tries to merge with warhammer 40,000...

What the feth?

>What the feth?

This is an odd idea that came to me while I was reading one of the Potter books - four houses, four Chaos gods and most of the colors even match. Things snowballed from there, and the intent is to make a reasonably competent army using characters from the Harry Potter universe. I don't think it would be allowed to win any painting contests as the HP images are copyrighted nor do I have the $800 it'd take to actually make the army. This is a thought experiment to make a themed army that won't suck on the table.

>If you manage to make 40k-ized Harry Potter chaos marines, this list will be awesome. Super awesome. The conversions will have to be really good.

*nod* That's the second reason this army will probably remain in the realm of the theoretical. There are LEGO versions that are the right size, and there are a number of vinyl sets out there - I figure using those as guides and a lot of green stuff for robes, plus Hogwarts banners as Icons, "Hogwarts Express" printed on the LR and a really good Dumbledore sculpt for the DP would let my opponent know what's going on.

>Whats with all the Harry Potter bashing BTW, i'd put money on all of you having read at least one of the books and enjoying it/them.

IMHO, the Harry Potter universe fell apart with the last two books - the good & innocent die while the bad guys aren't punished - and the moral lessons aren't terribly wonderful either: it's ok to turn children into suicide bombers, you can get away with murder if you're rich, a life of evil can be forgiven with one good act, etc. Ok, back to the army list.

> [lots "need transport" comments]

This is why I said "add Rhinos" - I knew the troops need transports, but just wanted to get the basic idea out there. I figured five Rhinos for the four troops and the Chosen, and the Termies go into the LR - I origionally bought it separate for tactical flexibility, but after folks' comments made it dedicated, added another Obliterator, dropped the Chosen and changed the Raptors to Bikers. Here's the revised list:

Ok. That book... and this hobby... should never be used in the same sentence. Nevermind, they should never both be mentioned by someone in the same day. They're horribly different.

Grimdark hopeless fantasy.

Shiny save-the-world fantasy.

Man up. the real world isn't exactly sending out "proper" examples for children; bad things happen all the time so teach kids not to be stupid and choose their moral stance from a kooky british lady.

the MAIN reason i'm against the harry potter universe, as well as the twilight universe, is because there is no human involvement in trying to stop them.

Its too much of a suspension of disbelief to imagine that NO humans in either series knows anything about these magical / special people. I know in harry potter the british prime minister knows about wizards, and yet, there is no effort made to exterminate them.

I just think that where there are witches, there should be witch hunters... and where there are vampires, there should be van helsing.
