Sure Space Wolves Land Raider Pilot
|
Hello all, this my first real blog, I will try to update this regularly, but with work and family commitments there maybe some time between updates, but please don’t lose interest, as I look forward to your comments, insight and assistants………
The idea was to create a Chapter that’s on the verge of turning renegade, as I don’t like the Chaos figures I'll mainly be using standard marines, after all there has to be a period of time between marines becoming disconcerted with the Imperium and craving spikes and a liking for poor hygiene
I have chosen the Space Wolf’s as the bases for this Chapter, which as they are the closest to Chaos Codex, will easily allow the Chapter to be converted to Chaos with only a little adaptation.
A full background story’s to follow later but, the chapter, or more accurately the remnants of it, are a little beat up. Consequently all items of equipment from Power Armour to vehicles have been damaged in one form or another. The intention is to model battle damage on all of the models but not to over weather them, after all they are still an elite force, just lacking some of the support structure.
There’s a short fall in the available armoury, which is mainly evident in the number and type of vehicles available, if I stick close to the Chaos options this will mean no Landspeeders, and only the standard Landraider, others to be determined, (I don’t have the Chaos Codex).
I’m thinking of taking a larger number of veteran’s than normally present, which by taking Logan Grimnar is allowed, but limiting the numbers in unique equipment, Terminator or Runic Armour etc, I figure that only those with exceptional skill or luck would have survived, and obviously there will only be a small number of initiates, which seems to suit the army selections I have read on DAKKA
The most obvious difference between the Lycan and Space Wolfs is the colour of their livery.
Red Core - Armour
Desert Yellow - Shoulder Trim, lower Helmet and Backpack Crown
Gold - Trim, Eagle etc

A lot of people are going to nay say about it being a Space Wolves succesor, you can just say it is a SW clan that has turned renegade. I say it is your army and do whatever you want that makes you happy.
I like the color scheme and looking forward to seeing this progress.

i agree with crossbonesx11, people will give you crap and it is good to try to make it as close to the fluff as possible, but at the same time it is your army and you should have fun.
i personally really like the idea, and would love to see all the models!

i dont see how sw are close to codex chaos or closer than any other sm army.
rulewise i would recommend to use codex BA

low number of initiates means low number of cc units.
new initiates = blood claws
but enough of this.
sounds like an interesting project and will def follow.
you could also use a great company that left the fang and not a succesor chapter fluffwise?

Being one who loves making my own fluff aswell im looking forward to seeing how this project evolves over time, it can take awhile to get your fluff all in order. finding a friend who also has a home made army is great cos you can write an interconnected story which adds a wealth of weight to your own history.

Looks interesting, I lke the colour scheme too.
And don't worry about SW being chaos-ish, thats what revisionist fluff is for!
Hell my SW successors somehow morphed into mutated white scars

The Space Wolves old accessory kit has some stuff.
Otherwise, look in the fantasy ranges - Chaos Warriors, as well as others has some lovely convertable items.

Hey! I'm a hardcore SW player. Let me give you some good background if you don't already know this. Whenever a new Great Wolf takes over the Fang....usually a few of the current Wolf Lords don't like him due to past pack rivalry and such.
It has stated that sometimes a Wolf Lord will take his Company and leave the Fang to serve the Emperor without needing to be under the Great Wolf's thumb. Any of these wolves could become rogue of Chaos traitors. There is even a Chaos Space Wolf scheme in the Chaos Dex.
Its your army man. More power to ya.

I just finished the first Grey Hunter.
I‘ve kept the damage/wear to the minimum as not to distract from the Livery. What not shown in this photo is the Chapter icon, I gone for Morkai the two faced wolf, after recently being bitten by my dog it seemed right, they’re two faced after all, nice one minute and horrors the next, plus nobody else seems to use it.
One point of note I’ve either got to photograph these before they’re varnished, use a Soft Box or find a purchase a suitable Matt varnish (Dullcote)
That aside I’m open to feedback

There was one successor chapter the Wolf Brothers, they supposedly died out but I think that that would work well for the story you’re going for..

I started a Chaos Army a few year ago, that's how I discovered that I personnel don’t like the current model range.
After selling off most of the models I was left with a Dreadnought and a few other bits.
Now I like Dreadnoughts, but I’m not happy with GM current pricing policy, so a hammer, knife, filler and a few bit from the new Venerable Dreadnought kit.............. one Lycan Dread suitability beat up.
Once again your feedback would be appreciated and don't be frighten to criticism, how else do we improve.

The vehicles available to chaos and imperial are the Rhino Vindicator, Predator (Lazcannons, Autocannon, and Bolters only), standard bikes, standard Landraider, Psychotic Dreads, and Defilers.
The Lycans are looking good so far and I wouldn't change the paint any but in the one picture of the Dread the pelt looks like gooey mud. if you changed the color to white or added a lighter color to the belly it would look better. If you look for pictures of spitz dogs or huskies you should be able to see what I mean.

Looks good man, like the colour scheme. I'm also thinking the pelt needs a lighter touch to bring it out more, but otherwise very nice.(and possibly the lenses look a little flat - but I might be thinking that because I've recently become very critical of the lenses staring at me from my own shelves )

The damage to the Shin Guard and Shoulders were done with a modelling knife, and a 1mm drill. Some of the effect was cause during the de-choasification,made up word for removing chaos icons etc with cutters, pliers or even a hammer, and removing the glue residue.
The damage wear areas are simply pointed black and a boltgun applied so as to leave a little of the black showing around the edges and recesses.

Nice one! They're looking really good so far.
I personally don't agree with the no successors idea. There have been ten thousand years of conflict and poor administration since the dawn of the Imperium. They only created one successor chapter, the Wolf Brothers, in the second founding and there is no way of knowing if they created any more at a later date.
Just look at the Blood Ravens for example, they don't know who their progenitors are and there are even hints to suggest they are the successors of the Thousand Sons.
There aren't really any certainties in 40k, the history is vague enough that one or two successor chapters could have easily slipped into obscurity, their records lost in some great war or locked away in a vault deep within the heart of Terra.
Nice work on the dreadnought, the battle damage looks great.
