I've not read much beyond the rulebook/a bunch of Codices, and I pick up bits and pieces about them here and there, but nothing really substantial.
Do any of the novels give a better overview of them? Or is there generally anywhere else I can pick up some more info?
Cheers guys!

there's a book called Mechanicus, I think, or Mechanicum, one of those... I haven't read it, but I think it exists... from what I know, it mostly takes place on Mars & involves the Adeptus Mechanicus to some degree or another?

Most of the stuff I know i've picked up is from the Necrons codex and a couple of small references in other bits and pieces lol! Really not much.

Bear in mind that the Mechanicum book mentioned is part of the Horus heresy series and takes place during the Martian civil war, so it not the current Adeptus Mechanicus. Although after having read it, it doesn't seem the Mechanicum has changed much over 10,000 years. The book is great for the history and workings of the AdMech though.

There is Titanicus, by Dan Abnett, who is one of the better writers Black Library publishes. I haven't read it myself, (too many SPHESS MAHREN books to slog through first) but it's about one of the Titan Legions, all of whom are subsidiaries of the AdMech. That might provide some insight perhaps?
Also, books 3 (Dead Sky, Black Sun) and 6 (The Chapter's Due) of Graham McNeil's Ultramarine series feature a High Ranking Magos quite prominently, and I dare say that his passages are some of my favorites, especially in book 6. The two books I mention also have a few scenes that deals with the Dark Mechanicus, the fallen brethren of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

That's a really good book if you want to know about the Mechanicum. It shows how they are more Alien than some actual alien races.

Awesome as! Thanks heaps guys, I'll check that out.
I downloaded the fan Codex for a Mechanicus army which is really interesting, though it's a touch hard to get through on screen (i've got to print it out...), so I'll definitely check out those books.

As well as the aforementioned novels (I also recommend Titanicus) the other books you should try and find are Codex Imperialis, Adeptus Titanicus, Epic Armageddon, Inquisitor, Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader (both the original Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader but more specifically Rogue Trader the RPG), Battlefleet Gothic (Vessels of Mars) and there's various bits and pieces scattered about in numerous other publications but only passages here and there really.
