Ok so I watched the movie and to be quiet honest it was pretty annoying to watch. I mean the visuals and acting was good but the overall storyline was quite fragmented. One main thing that bothered me was:

Parnassus wasn't stealing souls.

The devil was, arguably, but Parnassus was just getting them to listen to his stories. They retained full ownership of their souls.

Deeper sub-meaning of the storyline is - That life is a story told by someone, but if that individual stops then someone else (including yourself) can and will start. That ultimately you can tell your own lifes story which allows you to determine your level of happiness in life.

The imaginarium was a place where people were faced with the outer reality of their own personal story that they had been telling through their life choices and goals.

All in all, while unusual in style the movie was exceptionally good when you consider that the one of the main characters died during filming and his part had to be finished with other actors.
