In the minority here, but no more Cain! Not unless the author stops re-using the same format over and over again.

I know what you mean but I still love Cain, there haven't been many releases lately and i miss them. Brings a different feel to 40k

The Blood Angel novel appears to be a direct sequel to the Shield of Baal campaign. Will it resolve it, or is this something that GW will cover?

Seems odd to set it up only for the story to be told in some random BL novel.

Thanks for the second half of the interview! It was a bit of a disappointment how dismissive LG was of the NYT bestseller list and its importance to the American book selling market. He seemed ignorant of the reality of book promotion, and just how many more potential customers a NYT bestselling status can bring, but at least he muddied the waters and cast doubt on the virtue of the prize his company lost instead of admitting mistakes were made.

Yeah, I had a bit of the same reaction. I don't doubt that the NYT bestseller list is susceptible to gaming. But the fact remains: BL's novel output grew seriously disappointing.
And remains so, IMO, since my favorite authors have not fully jumped back on board. (I am still searching for a copy of ADB's book on Terra -- and remain profoundly disappointed that plans to continue either his Abaddon series or Dan Abnett's Eisenhorn v. Ravenor series apparently remain on hold.)

I agree it's disappointing to see Abnett vanish almost entirely from Warhammer fiction but TBH his later books I felt were tired and somewhat lacking in heart. So I would rather be left it than pumped out more like 'I am slaughter' which was the worst in TBA series.

ADB is slow and when he gets a book out it's usually a hit, like master of mankind which was awesome, so I would rather have slow.

But they ain't the only two boys at the show you know, Guy Haley is superb IMO I can't think of anything he has written I haven't enjoyed (half way through Dante and it's beautiful) have you tried shadowsword?. I know he is marmite but I also like David Annadale. Chris Wraight is amazing when he is on the right topic, John French and Gav Thorpe are not too shabby either!

So all in all the BL stock is pretty good I think. McNeill is away, comes back for weekends, but that's ok I would like more from him but there are plenty more!

I'm reasonably certain that book II in his Abaddon series is done and has been handed into the editors -- it is coming anyway.

Yeah, the sequel to Talon of Horus should be out around August. With Aaron Demski-Bowden, as he is the first to admit, he takes a long time to write them.

Well, it was either good quality writing or using those same resources to game the system for the sham-prize of NYTBS status. Those are the only options.

Dante is brilliant book. Most enjoyable, newly released, 40k fiction I've read in years. Brilliant description of life on Baal. I'm not a fan of bolter porn and was nervous getting this in limited ed but I'm delighted I did very little of it, love origin stories. Truely a 40k classic, stonking work Haley.

Good to hear. I've just finished Mephiston and hope its part of a series or trilogy because if it isn't then it was meh. Dante I've been looking forward to.

I think it will please those who like the see the 40k universe beyond the battlefield and into the lives of ordinary citizens. But also show how utterly terrifying space marines are. Gives a nice insight into the blood angles culture too. Super book.

did you finish new Mephiston by Hinks or old by Annandale. New one is in the queue for the author interview, probably after Dante, though. Not sure actually in the order.

..another titan story...?!

http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/at-hunting-ground-ebook.html

Hunting Ground

An Adeptus Titanicus story

With a corrupted Warlord Titan leading the Chaos assault on an Imperial world, the Legio Debellator joins the battle – but is the warp-tainted Titan a former member of that exalted Legio, and what does that say about the battle at hand?

READ IT BECAUSE
Action, intrigue, historical secrets and, oh yeah, skyscraper-sized killing machines abound in this brand new story.

THE STORY
When forge world Tophet VI is attacked by the Iron Warriors, the Imperium responds in force, sending a mixed force of Subjugators Space Marines and the engines of the Legio Debellator to defend it assets. Though the Traitor Marines present a terrible enemy in and of themselves, the Warlord-class Battle Titan that heads up their attacks is an even worse threat, having the power to carry the battle for its dark masters. But why does this enemy god machine bear the mark of the Legio Debellator, and just how far will the legio go to destroy their fallen engine and avenge their dishonour?

Written by Ian St Martin

'Murica! (again)

Somebody asked for this. Btw: Ian St. Martin who penned yesterday's titan short story is on ep 187 re: Deathwatch and Lucius, including his upcoming Lucius the Faultless Blade coming later this year. After Adepticon the interview with Black Library audio producer Matt R. and book/drama actor John Banks will air so you can see how audio books & dramas are made, how pronunciation is supposed to be and a brief acting snippit from our actor as he plays multiple characters reading from ADB's The Long Night with Sevetar. Should be ep 190 or thereabouts.

A Last Sniff of Glory

A Blood Bowl story

Skaven Star player Rurrk is starting to feel his age – but if he can’t maintain his position on the team, he’s doomed. Will warpstone and a secret weapon be enough to keep the young pups at bay?

READ IT BECAUSE
David Guymer returns to the skaven (his first Warhammer love) – but in Blood Bowl! Just how is an ageing Star Player going to keep himself at his peak with all the newcomers snapping at his heels?

THE STORY
Skaven Star player Rurrk is starting to feel his age – his joints ache, he’s not as fast as he used to be, and his armour has become rather tight of late. But if he can’t maintain his position on the team, and keep the young pretenders at bay, he’s doomed. In the foetid tunnels of the skaven, only the fittest survive. The only way Rurrk will be able to get through the next match is a good sniff of warpstone, and using his ultimate secret weapon – a mechanical steam-claw made specially for him by the master weaponsmiths of Clan Skryre.

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

Not sure if related to the whole relaunch of the website thing, but the horus heresy series is on a humble bundle at the moment:
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/horus-heresy-warhammer-book-bundle

Books 1-5 for a dollar
Pay 8 freedom bucks or more and get 6-10 as well and an audio drama
Pay 15 and get books 11-15 as well, plus some other stuff

Total bargain if you want to get started on the heresy, plus some of the money goes to charity (you can specify how much btw)

THE STORY
In the skies over Brakur IV, war rages. The tyranids of Hive Fleet Kraken have achieved air-superiority over the Imperial defenders, disrupting what should have been a simple extraction mission for the Scythes of the Emperor – and a lone battle-brother plunges from his wrecked dropship towards the planet’s surface. With his life expectancy now measured only in seconds, he must find a way to slow his deadly freefall, or become just another name on a staggering list of fallen Chapter heroes...

..some of those look quite tasty eh ?!

I 've read the recent Ezekiel and Magnus books.

Both satisfying enough although one did feel perhaps that the Magnus one was a wee bit light, so to speak, but was certainly a fun read. Can't deny there's a thrill in reading about Magnus really cut loose with his abilities..

.. never quite pictured Perturabo and/or Forrix ever being quite so ...... nice ? ..... but the story worked well enough overall. I still think the Russ one is the best one released thus far.
