Please be aware there may be pictures of unfinished or even un-primed models in this blog.
This is planned to be the sister blog to my chaotic musings, with the focus on the imperial gak I'm working on. I don't plan on updating this every day or similar, it's just intended as a place to put up anything else I'm fiddling about with . So to start the mix of stuff on my desk at the moment we have some guard:
Harper's Irregulars, a group of civilian survivors lead by Sgt Harper of the Ulthian Combined 7th, fighting renegade forces on the industrial planet Asphall IV.

A bit of air support is always useful
More air than support at the moment, havent finished the weapons yet, or decided best way to fit them, anybody magnetised their valk/vult? Also, the vulture's crew haven't yet reported for duty. used a sponge to get chipped paint, was pretty pleased with how it turned out in most places, but a little heavy under the canopy.

And some vee-hickles
This is an old colour scheme and I've been playing with different ways to fit it in with the latest urban IG thing I'm doing ( these were from one phase, have some sentinels from another, and a box of bits and figs from another ) The wide tracked chimera may still find it's way into the desert/ash wastes yet though. There's also a vanquisher, a hydra, and a siege tank waiting to be finished and primed. Although the hydra is earmarked for the desert and the vanquisher may get posted elsewhere too.

Next up some beakies (high-quality painting extremely optional)
Assault squad and chaplain termie. the assualt squad has been in the making so long I've lost count of the figure/weapon swaps it's had to keep with current edition They also been under the sunbed too long. The Chaplain based on an old termie librarian from the original Space Hulk expansions. These are from the Crusaders Penitent, a chapter I devised many moons ago in order to finish more units off. About 5000 years ago the Crusaders Resplendent (I think that was it, I came up with the fluff so long ago, and never kept a real record) withdrew from active service for just over a hundred years, re-emerging as the Crusaders Penitent with all insignia removed from their armour. The crusaders are a nomadic chapter with several mobile command stations and about a dozen crusade forces, which come together every 600 years in a Grand Conclave. At the last conclave it was decreed that personal adornment was acceptable on armour, but the Chapter's colours were still shrouded.
Basically I was looking at a quick drybrush and a few details to get a finished mini, wasn't looking for great quality and decided I would use a lot of old-school figs.

Some assault options for termies, all the Crusader termies are based on the original Space Hulk figs, mainly just with weapon swaps, but had to switch arms for one of the lightning claw guys. Claws, hammers and chainfists each got one old/one new type. Scouts from Space Crusade, swapped weapons on original plug-in arms for swapping load-outs. Although it was supposed to be quick and nasty paint-job I do need to re-do termie and scout chest plate, went way wrong back when I was starting them and kept going. The scouts all have the same nasty rash/burn that affected the assault guys.

Trikes are from the down'n'dirty school of modelling/painting too. Slice off the exhausts, stick on 2 wheels, fill the old wheel space with the offcut exhuast and 2 bits of tube for new exhausts. Vehicles are all based on old rhinos so hard to get now. I have one in construction and one vindicator still sealed - damn GW for making a new vindicator kit I also hold little hope of adding another land raider to their armoury.

Some more guard
catachans, unfinished due to constant swapping between catachan to vanilla IG, back to catachan...well that and my inability to finish them tat is They do posses a finished sentinel however, although I'm thinking of re-doing some of the greens, bit samey. Not sure about the future of these guys, keep picking 'em up but also keep farming figs off to other projects.

And back to the beakies
The BloodFists. Two vet sgts, veteran BloodFists are entitled to wear red over their armour. Bad angle for it but the power axe is just yellow washed metal atm, haven't decided on a good colour for the fists power weapons yet, the majority of which will be axes. Some brothers almost ready, and a bunch with various stages just after basecoat.

Some termies, a dread and a venerable dread. dread is in the fatal almost-done stage, still need to find something to cover the loincloth join, not liked my previous attempts, and then nearly broke it off when I picked it up for the photo.
There's a couple of rhinos, a razorback and a speeder all with basecoat and a rhino/razorback and a land raider in construction too.

And finally found these 2 Inq guys when I was moving things off my desk, had almost forgotten the flamer guy, and was quite excited to see him again, he may see some brush-love soon.

Anyways, enjoy, feel free to comment and I'll be back when I've done something.

I may be overlooking some things, but I really like :

- the Space Marine "biker-on-foot" holding its plasmagun, very nice!!
- the Chaplain in Terminator Armour, pretty cool...
- and of course the flamer Inq. guy : so full of character!!! How did you manage this?

Thanks man.
If I remember rightly the robes from tech-magos, slick devlan's body, ork arm, killa kan skorcha, think the head and other arm came from muties and guardsman sprues from early Inq days, backpack and bags from bits box, brass etched feather, I remember really liking this guy when I made him, and like I said I was excited to find him again, I'm even quite likikng the paint so far Think I might get spurred to finish him even. Other guy's gonna need a rethink tho' as I was planning to cover his back with an arbites shield that has been looted by some orks

'Finished' off the Inq flamer guy I found, rushed it (by my standards ) but threw some varnish over him just so that he didn't end up buried under a bunch of bits again.

Do need to go back and bring out the string around the flamer more, and have just noticed I left his fingernails white, they'll need some washes. Wanted to try out yellow lenses, but they ended up a bit redder than I wanted.

Maybe I'll go back to his two compatriots as well, here's the threee of them (some varnish issues on the cyber-rat)

And toying with some guard concepts
lurking at the back is the commander for the Ulthian (probably) and a headless inquisitor, his head fell into one of the tiny roving black holes that circle my floor, along with a grot's head and the base for one of my servo-grots. Then there's some stormies utilising their state-of-the-art reflection camo. Must...stop...using...sunlight.

Thanks guys.

Hadouken - Cheers, he's pretty funky, although like all my first Inq models I matt varnished too soon after gloss and ended up with a slightly cracked, dusty effect These guys were supposed to be a bunch of scavengers, ex-guard and the like, and I planned for them to have several cyber-rats. Simply head from a rat-ogre on a cyber-mastiff body with a bit of milliput to rough up the armour, claws from DE spikes, and a tail from.....somewhere.

Good Green - Thank you, been following your green guys, voted for the super grots funnily enough

kestral - plenty of old-skool minis lying around in various boxes, still eking out parts from RTB01 sprues Some of them will get on here at some point, but I can't say when considering how long they've been attached to various projects. The marines are bubonic brown with bleached bone highlight, pretty much the colour I wanted, most were based with the old spray cans which were a tad lighter than pot paint.

Not really an update as such but figured I may as well put up the rest of the Crusaders Penitent, as pretty much the whole army could be considered a wip ( so pics, but no pwetty paint-jobs ). Back in the day I liked a gloss finish on these guys, but when I did the first rhino it quite obviously turned out looking like a plastic toy so I figured I'd matt them all down, but never seemed to do it (tbh I actually thought I had done one squad). You'll also notice more of the dodgy skin complaints these guys seem to suffer from. Some I can blame on the thick enamel base coat and subsequent detail loss, but others I can only blame on err, my brush, that's it I had a dodgy brush that week. Also, you can see what era they were first started in by the hyper-realistic basing technique that was all the rage back then
Your basic spacehulk termie with one turned to sarge, and 3 turned to specialists. Hvy flamer from the spacehulk upgrade which slotted over the storm bolter, original nozzles replaced with part from a lighter. Assault cannon from bits box, cyclone from titan weapon sprue. Librarian from genestealer expansion librarian with arms swapped out for squat exo-armour arms. And I didn't want to paint him blue, that's why

Sarge and the guy he's based on, the old snap-fit model. One of Calgar's original bodyguards appears in the squad, and the missile launcher from the snap fit marine too.

Sarge from a metal blood angel (death company?) and heavy bolter from space crusade scouts (plus casualty)

Speaking of which
Sarge as standard except for shaved head, couple of guys with weapons glued in place then the guys with switchable arms and bad skin.

Last stop the motor pool

Rhino, razorback, 'raider and 'speeder. Need to make more weapons for the razoeback, the vehicle in the production bays is supposed to be a switchable razorback/rhino but I seem to recall doing something different to the plan when it got started. The landraider is probably going to stay solo, doubt I'll get another one now, unless I get a pre-made/painted piece and re-do it, but don't fancy that much. Shame as I'd really like one or two for my cyborks too I know I should really have gone for the old metal 'speeder but for some reason I didn't and just made minor modifications to the standard one.

I think I'm going to add re-basing these to my current project list.
And that's about it for now, thanks for looking and I promise to put up something other than dodgily painted 'rheens next update

Crusaders Penitent has a VERY Necron feel to it at first glance. I find it an excellent change of pace.

As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time.

Red9 - A change of pace was one of the things I was going for with those guys, thanks.

Samus - Thank you, old models is the way the Crusaders roll I'm afraid

A quick shot of a couple more Bloodfists I've started, one of which (not sure which yet) is to get seconded to Porkuslime's Inquisitorial force. Both guys at uncleaned blu-tac stage till tonight.

Thanks, I think I've already decided that's the one to go to Porkuslime, especially as I know he wants more jump-packs. I'll have to prime and start paintwork tomorrow now, but one quick question. I'm playing with having one of the flaming torches mounted on the jump-pack, I know it's not all that realistic (as if flaming brands on infantry packs is ), but did want something like that and just wondered what anyone else thought.
I'll be keeping the pack off for painting and it may get a few chains/scrolls/purity seals added, but I'm prefering the torch over the scrolls etc. I had on top before. Any comments?

I love that tabard. Is that from a dire avenger? Looks rad!

The beaks really add character to anything. Next time I buy some marines, I'm saving the beaks until I can make an assault unit with them. I love beaks ^.^

Yeah, love those beakies - probably just hangover nostalgia from the first marines in my case That's how I'm using them for the Bloodfists, all assault marines will get them. The tabard's part of the champion torso, may try adding a small fist icon to the shield, have to check what bits are left from the FW icon packs.

OK, so work progressing on Porkuslime's marine, however I'm still undecided as to how to do the power axe. The one or two I have are metallic yellow at the moment, but I don't really like the look of that, but have no clear idea of where to head, so advice is very much needed.

Don't really want to do the cables until I'm set on a scheme for the blade in case it clashes, and still debating whether the jump-pack will be similar to the armour or metallic. Going to change the shield on the torso, possibly quatered red/white and think the little tryptich is going to be mainly silver with gold trim. Still a few more details to go over and a bit of tidying, but that should all get done tonight or tomorrow, so just the pack and the blade holding me up at present.

My suggestion for the Power Weapon - and although I don't have any Pictures, I can assure you it will work - is to blend some Boltgun Metal into Mithril Silver, with the Mithril on the outer edges of the Weapon. Then Wash 2-3 Times in Azuremen Blue. Or, for that matter, Baal Red.

Pretty much what I decided Popsicle I'll have to play around a bit with it as that's the technique I used on several of my cybork's helmets, but I'll leave it as is for Porkuslime's model as it's unlikely to be sitting next to any of my orks on the shelf - plus I know from experience that I'll only mess it up if I play with it too much

So a tiny bit of tidying up and need to do the skull on the scroll and back of jump-pack, then varnish and good to go, left shoulder pad is missing as Porkuslime will be adding his Inq pad there and basing it.

Glad to report Porkuslime recieved Brother Zac OK, although he did have to re-glue the axe which broke during shipping as I'd forgotten to pin it

Been mainly concentrating on my cyborks but done a little on two imp guys

Chaplain for the BloodFists - needs a bit of gs to fill the leg engravings and I'll probably change the crozius design again. Also need to clean up the join on the bolt-pistol arm so I can change the angle slightly. Which may well lead to him getting a plasma-pistol instead

Found a duplicate of the head so was able to re-start the inquisitor.

And just to be a complete tease a few shots of some lovely old-skool minis

Why's that a tease I hear you cry. Because you probably won't see many of them again for a while - quite apart from all the over projects on my table and in my head these will probably be waiting till whenever GW decide to do something with the inquisition as they're my rogue trader retinue, and Inq seems to be the best fit to me - or at least it did when I started working out the force back in whenever
