Started painting the aquila. Primed with chaos black and then i got a watered down brown and filled in all the cracks.

So what are you wanting it to look like when it is done?

Well its gonna be a greyish colour, I actaully finished the aquila part so I'll get some pictures later. I just got it from the GW site.

It'd be nice as a Dusty Sand colour. It will keep the Neutral Quality of the Grey, and yet add a Tone to it, making it slightly Warmer and more Appealing to look at.

This is SilverMK2's Throne of Skulls Terrain Piece. It doesn't look like this now, but it did at one point, so it's a perfectly suitable example.

Well I'm trying to make it match the terrain I use so I'm gonna make it a dark colour.

Here is the finished product.

To me the brown doesn't work in the crevices on it. That's supposed to be dirt and weathering, but you painted the dirt around in gray. It means the brown kind of sticks out. Just a thought.

And I am probably going to paint my ToS back to how it looks above, as I really don't like the grey/bloody look that people suggested I do (though I think some of the skulls have been repainted to have different designs now)

But back on topic; if you have brown "dust" or dirt in the cracks, it would make sense that there would be brown dust elsewhere on the model, such as in the gaps between the rubble around the eagle.

I would also suggest that the dirt you have looks pretty considerable at the moment - if you have that much collected in the recesses, you probably should have some blown across the surface of the eagle.

It does look better now that it has been toned down to match more closely the rocks/stonework around it. You have to remember that a lot of sand/dirt/grit/earth will look quite simmilar to the rocks etc around it.

If you wanted a really earthy brown dirt, I think you would need to add more browns to the surrounding base, perhaps adding some plants/grass as well to fit with the right earth look you had going on.

Though it definately looks better now.

Looks good. When it comes to "ruins" terrain (like the crashed imperial lander) I have a nasty habit of just throwing on a really heavy wash all over the piece, regardless of natural patterns
