I've Seen a few models who can have a silly amount of bodygaurds for insistence:

calgar- who can have 30 honor gaurd

and some guy in one of the wd who could have 12 bloodthirsters as bodygaurds

can anyone else thing of some more?

I don't think Calgar get's a thirty man honor guard, he can just take three ten man ones.

Farsight can take an eight (I believe) man (Tau) Crisis bodyguard unit.

the 12 bloodthirster bodyguard is an apocalypse-only unit, and is probably appropriate for Angron, Daemon Primarch and one of the most favoured of Khorne's champions.

Farsight actually takes 1-7, not eight, but yeah, that's the only other ridiculous one I can think of off the top of my head.

For perspective for non-Tau players, normally a Tau commander can only have TWO battlesuit bodyguards.

Commander Farsight can have SEVEN.

Farsight weakens the rest of his list even before you take into account the body guards...I lol at it in a normal game.

How so?

All he does is disallow Kroot and Vespids, which nobody I know uses anyway. Vespids are a niche unit that take up a valuable Fast Attack slot you could be using for more Pathfinders, and Kroot suck at everything (they're about as good in melee as a Guardsman, carry Rapid Fire weapons so they can't shoot and assault, and they can't use markerlights), they're only useful because they're dirt cheap.

He gives the entire army Preferred Enemy against Orks, which actually buffs the army as a whole, albeit only against Orks.

His only real weakness is that he's too focused on melee, which gimps his shooting, and he and his bodyguard are overpriced.

Anyway.

Back on topic, Ethereals get to take an entire unit of Fire Warriors as an "honour guard," with +1 BS, but they're more expensive per model (14 points instead of 12 each, IIRC) so that one's kind of balanced - but it's a good way to get an extra FW squad on the field without using up a Troops choice.

The question is, is taking an Ethereal worth it?

At least it's not Space Pope!

Aaaanyway..... Farseers can have a whole bunch of Warlock "Bodyguards" but they are not labeled as such (maybe because of the whole "Dieing Race" thing...).
