I am looking for a way to distill down mordiem and necromunda into the smallest and simplest format possible. The reason being that I have friends who are interested in war gaming but have the attention span of gnats. Has anyone formed smaller and simpler rule sets that have smoothed over some rough spots in the older games?

Id really enjoy a simple fast skirmish rule set with some of the spirit of original games.

Hey!

I don't know of anything off hand that has been put down at a very basic level. We have done something with the overall rules for GW Skirmish and came up with this:

http://deathsquads.tabletopgeeks.com/files/Death%20Squads%20-%20Living%20Rulebook%20v0.5.1b.pdf

The above link is the Living Rulebook we have created. It has been two years in the making and follows the concept of GW Skirmish (Necromunda, Mordheim, Space Hulk and GorkaMorka) with some variations.

Please check it out.

Death squads, judging by the ruleset (which I've read most of, but havn't had a chance to paly), is very well written, but quite complex.

However, it does manage to fit in plenty of the intricacies of the old GW skirmish rules with new 40k weaponry and characters. As a dumb game, it's going to be a poor choice, but it's undoubtly wonderfully written, and rather then aiming to give a dumbed-down experience, try to give a smaller one that focueses more on the things that keep your friends interested. Because it doesn't matter how dumbed down you make a ruleset, if your friends don't want to play it, they won't.

You are quite correct not everyone is in agreement with the dumb down rules it will be a tough sale.

I am sure everyone's has different thought of dumbed down.

Thanks for checking out the DS rulebook. It is appreciated.

i did check it out the complete version, i was a devoted follower when the death squad codex was being written so i already had a pretty good idea of what i was going on.

Thankfully alot of the friends are truely interested, but when i mention the rulebook size, most grin and turn away. Maybe ill have to make some strange pamphlet sized rulebook to pull them in and add as they become ensnared.

Or maybe ill just make my own rulebook to keep the games fast and dirty, who knows.

You could look at the LOTR rules for reference, it's a good simple skirmish game and could probably be modified easily

I considered that but havent really taken a close look. I saw the might and all that sort of stuff and shied away because i didnt want to get sucked into a new game system myself. Original plan was to stay in the warhammer realm so i could expand the rules and details as the hooligans got more interested.

Another reason im attempting to shift towards skirmish is that i found that i have way too much GW laying around, and id like to take my time and produce a stellar board and 20 gorgeous models over my 230 night goblins i currently have on the board downstairs.

Hey! Thanks for the review. Keep us posted on what you come up with as I am sure many would be interested.

I agree with LOTR, I researched those rules and didn't like the MIGHT and etc. If you took it out and a few more adjustments LOTR might work for you.
