i am a bit confused how chaos gods exist in both dimensions of both warhammer and 40k especially slannesh, this is because Eldar created Slannesh so how is this possibly that he exists in fantasy?
Feel free to pull my trousers down and prove me wrong (yeh i probably am)

As far as I can recall the old fluff hinted/stated that the "Old World" actually exists in the 40K universe also that Sigmar was one of the Primarchs
Edit: Also remember that WHFB came before 40K

Older fluff said they WHFB was set on a planet in 40k. It was meant to be close to the eye of terror (why they have more powerful magic) and cut of from everything else by warp storms.
Recently GW has moved away from this and made them two different setting entirely. Now they are too impotant to change so they are stuck like that. The best reason I can think of for the links is that there are many dimensions one of which is the warp. This overlaps both of the other dimensions.

Hi there! Well, it may be that the Warhammer Fantasy and the 40K dimensions are seperate but closely related is all. As you pointed out, the birth of Slaanesh through the Eldar is problematic if time is linear unless the Fantasy Universe follows, rather than predates the 40K universe. But previous fluff on the Emperor in 'The Lost and the Damned' seemed to tie the Emperor to our real earth, rather than to the Fantasy Battles world, so I think the dimensions are actually not one and the same. Just my thoughts

Ive always supported the multiverse theory, so I have come to the conclusion that the WHFB universe is different from the 40k universe but are still linked by the warp (explaining magic and sigmar=19th primarch)

The simplest answer I can think of is that GW were too lazy/ unable to come up an idea for God(s) for both of their flagship games. By duplicating them they save themselves time, and allows them to double up things in terms of Background without actually having to think about it

I don't know if this is still true, but the old lizardmen army book told the tale of the Old Ones creating life on the planet. Conceivably these are the same Old Ones that were the enemies of the Necrontyr as stated in Codex: Necrons. Basically, this would seem to mean that the Old World is in fact just another planet in the 40k universe, with the same god as the 40k universe.
As to Slaanesh, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the fall of the Eldar happened way before the rise of humanity and the Emperor, and probably before the era of WHFB. Of course, for all the technological stagnation in the 40k world, the games could possibly both be taking place at about the same time period.

Not so much lazy or unable, as simply following the design principle that Warhammer 40000 was Warhammer in Space, to cash in on an already successful property. So when they created the first edition of 40K, they took a lot of the elements of the Fantasy game and just sci-fied them up a little.
40K originally included not just the Chaos Gods, and Orcs, Dwarves and Elves, but also Slann, Minotaurs, Trolls, Beastment, and all manner of other crossovers.
The fluff has gradually moved to separate the two, though, with a lot of the Fantasy elements in 40K either modified into something different (Fungus-based Orks) or dropped completely (Minotaurs, Trolls, Dwarves...)
But the Chaos Gods are really too entrenched at this point for there to be any point trying to separate them. The Old Ones are one of the places where the fluff has wandered off in slightly different directions. In the Old World, the Old Ones were the masters of the Slann. In older 40K fluff the Slann were hinted as being the Old Ones.
Basically, this would seem to mean that the Old World is in fact just another planet in the 40k universe, with the same god as the 40k universe.
That was the original premise that was given in at least one of the old Rogue Trader books. Again, these days the 'official' view is that the two are separate settings that just share some common elements.
The Fall of the Eldar was what triggered the Great Crusade, as the creation of Slaanesh and the Eye of Terror quieted down the Warp Storms that had cut off much of the rest of the galaxy from Terra. So that puts it about a thousand years before the Horus Heresy, or 11000 years (give or take a few) before the 'current' time in 40K.

Liber Chaotica is a good example of how GW still isn't sure abotu the divide themselves. they spent about 4 years claimign different settings.
then they release Liber Chaotica. Which most certainly is linked, the Empire guy who is researching chaos gods even talks about Magnus the Red (although he never names him), he calls him Tzeentch's most powerful' something something and describes him as being a giant 1 eye man. and then there is decrptions of noise marines and other 40k related stuff when he talks about demon worlds...
i always play both games to the same universe theory, i jsut prefer it that way.... but in the end i think gw have left it pretty messy and its up to the players how they interpret it.

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |
