For being new to 40k even then they look amazing and ur on the right track... man i wish my models looked that good when i first started.

What did you use for the red it seems bright the kinda red in the codex and don't be afraid to apply highlights it makes models look ten times better

Hi Looks Infected. Im still tinkering with my highlighting skills! The red is done on the Rhino and the Baal by basing with Mechrite red and then Blood Red applied using a medium drybrush.

These are your first models? Wow! Thats about my painting standard at the moment!

Also do you know what washes are like highlighting they make your models look better by going into the craks and shading the model.

He probably knows exactly what Washes are, since he's clearly used them.

Anyway, very nice. In regards to the above Picture particularly, the Silver there could use a Badab Black Wash. Also, where you're washing the Cloak, the Effect is great, but be careful of excessive Pooling near the bottom. That's where the Wash all runs and gathers before it dries in, and it leaves a huge dark spot. Just dab with Kitchen Towl, or a Sponge, to fix. It's not bad, though.

Very nice models!

Looks Infected wrote:do you prime white?

Not unless he's either Painted all the Bases again, which I don't think he has done yet, or Primed them off-sprue. Since he's Base Coating with Mechrite Red, he's probably Priming Black. It won't make much difference once the Mechrite is on there, anyway.

+ Edit + Ooh, also, the Yellow looks a little thickly done on those Assault Marine Helmets. I'd recommend a Single Coat of Iyanden Darksun, the Foundation Paint, followed by a Coat of Golden Yellow, and then a Wash of Gryphonne Sepia. It'll look much more depthy and shaded than your current ones.

++ Edit ++ And again, in reference to this Picture, you might want to go back and touch up your Drybrushing. I say this because, if you look under the Window Hatches, there's a strip of lighter, drybrushed colour, and then below, there's some bare mechrite - or so it seems, it might be the camera - which looks a little sloppy.

But that's me being very picky. Great work overall! Also, the Storm Bolter looks kind of... pink.

Cheers popsicle, i went and touched up the captains cloak and its looking much better now, i had washed the back pack with Badab Black so i re did that also. Picky indeed but the critique is noted and appreciated. As with regards to the camera quality i don't own a digital camera so my blackberry camera it is and they aren't renowned for great quality.

Indiana, i use badab black on metals and devlan mud on cloaks and rhino/baal and scrolls

and Looks infected i spray chaos black, i have yet to base any of my models and i will get round to that once i decide what sort of terrain to base them on.

Popsicle, do you paint on the sprue? im thinking of doing this from now on because my tactical squad is proving hard to paint in behind their boltguns to a decent standard

Also anyone in the dakka community able to point me in the direction of a good stencil image for the blood angels logo to spray on to the roof of the rhino???

So i got this cheap deal on ebay for some kids mucky blood angels army, the paint job is rubbish, half the models are broken. So i'll be working on removing the paint and seeing which models are salvageable and which are for scrap. Which gave me an idea!!!

The drednaughts legs snapped in transit which i wasn't too happy about and seeing as the kid glued the dreadnaught arm on i have decided to try my hand and modelling and customizing an objective marker. I managed to twist the arm off and snap in both legs has given me this sort of idea, i'm going to chop a few marines up sort of like this effect
and have a few defending the dreadnaught for extraction.

Let me know what you all think???

Another bit of advice for you, I use the same Mechrite Red base but then wash Devlan Mud into all the recesses before applying a Mechrite / Blood red mix over the top. Also when highlighting use pale brown like Vomit Brown rather than yellow as this removes the orangey effect on the armour (when you get round to final highlights) There are some photos on the first page of my P&M blog of a Sanguinary Priest done this way if you want to see what it looks like before trying it out.

Keep up the good work and take all the good advice the people above have been dishing out.

But oh well you live and you learn!!! Just need to add a few more details to the dreads, scrolls and the likes then they are ready to be sprayed!!!

Dude you are a machine!!

So gutted about the quality of that plastic dread. Those ebay pirates really mucked it up! I'll bring over my toothbrush and we'll see if we can get the paint off....

Look at all that forgeworld you got! Was that a resin razorback turret I noticed in the background? looks great.

Looking good for a starter! Just make sure you don't overload your washes, if they are pooling up, you are putting too much on at once, keep some tissue on standby to blot up the biggest blotches and put on a few more thinner layers to avoid the issue at the bottom of the cape.

Btw, get yourself a can of red dragon army painter spray too, such a godsend when doing this much red!
