Just finished my first Ork models. I had already painted a Runt Bot ages ago but I didn't really consider it my "first Ork" because I didn't really use any Ork painting techiniques on it so these are my real "first Orks"

Please do not comment on the quality of my photos. I've tried to get as close to the model as possible to show the freehand but on some (especially the Loota), I couldn't get a clear photo close enough to clearly show the freehand.

First up, the Nob in charge of the Boyz.

Next, a plain Shoota Boy. I'm not really hoping for criticism on the painting on this one, I just wanted to show the little conversion whereby the Shoota Boy has welded his iron sights to his helmet in the hopes that it will improve his accuracy.

Now, here's the Loota. I just literaly finished him about 20 mins ago. I decided to add a bit of character to the model so I added the ammo Grot onto his backpack and did a bit of freehand graffiti on his Deffgun. I'm pretty pleased with my freehand skills, like on the "Waagh!" on the Nob's iron jaw and the Deffgun. Now here's where my camera failed on me, and it was impossible to get a detailed photo of the freehand, but it is supposed to say "Dakka Dakka!" on the top of the weapon.

I got a couple more pics trying to show more of the detail.

All criticism is welcome.

Thanks,

Looks good man. Do you use 2 or 3 shades of green on the skin? Never really liked the bad moons yellow but it looks good on your orks.

Thanks, for the skin, I used two shades and a wash. Snot Green highlighted with Goblin Green, washed with Thrakka Green.

I do a base of Dark Angels Green, then layer on Snot Green leaving the recesses showing, then slap on some mud wash to even it out, and highlight with some Goblin Green.

I like the ammo grot. If you want to make your pictures better, try finding the "Macro" setting on your camera (if it has one). That's the setting for close (less than 12") shots.

Nice figures, the freehand work is good. Never turns out right when I try it :(

For ork skin I use Orkhide, then Goblin Green highlight, followed by Thraka Green wash and 2nd highlight of Goblin Green/Yellow, as seen here... Tho I'm thinking of changing to a less bright tone, using bleached bone instead of yellow...

Thanks to modern chemistry, sleep is now optional

I like them a lot. The painting looks solid. I would maybe give a little more highlight to the skin, but otherwise very cool models.

The grot is a nice touch too.

They look brilliant! These are your first orks? I bet you're probably a master of painting anything else though.

Well not to blow my own trumpet but I am pretty good at freehand , but I'm nowhere near a Golden Demon level of painting.

You may not have noticed that the last post in this thread was in 2010, so it's a bit of a thread necro to bring it up again.

I would try to contact the OP by PM if you want more info on his painting techniques.

Locking thread due to necronisation.
