Evening,

So I've decided to get back into 40k after a long break, 8 years, and looking to build a unique army for myself.

Pretty much decided on doing a Eldar Windrider Host Army, so all Jetbikes, Vypers, Falcons, Prisms.

now to make this unique I'm considering making it a exodite host, so

Cold one knight conversion for Jetbikes
Carnosaur Conversion for Vypers
Stegadon Conversion for Falcons/Fire Prisms.

now to my questions?

a) would this be tornament legal? Planning on maintaining WYSIWYG with reguards to weapons and the like.
b) Assuming yes, what basing would be legal. I dont want to convert them all to leaping/jumping so flying bases are out.

would the following be legal?

Jetbikes on 40mm bases
vypers on 60mm
stegadon on 60mm or larger?

been looking in the rulebook and couldn't really find anything relevant to my questions?

Thanks in advance for advice.

That would depend entirely on the rules in use for the tournament.

The rules in general assume that you are using the correct models. So if you are substituting, you should be using the bases that would be appropriate for whatever your substitute model is supposed to be.

Technically, these should all be on 60mm flight bases (although arguably 30mm, or GW's original hex flight bases would also be fine for the jetbikes) as that is the standard base for those units.

In practice, just use whatever size base looks appropriate on the model, and very few people will have an issue with it. If you're entering a tournament with non-standard models and want to be sure, run it past the TO before registering.

as long as the majority of the model was what you are representing, then it is legal under Grand Tournament rules. so use whatever bases were supplied.

As with all questions about conversions, you have to ask your opponent/TO as the rules simply do not cover them.

I am not 'getting' how dinosaurs can float and fly... or have mechanical armor values.

This sounds very much like "choose powergaming meta-list first, shoehorn 'counts as' in second"

Maybe if you want to have lots of Dinosaurs with your Eldar, then consider something using wraithlords and the Avatar as those would be much better representations of a large nasty dinosaur with toughness and wounds and walking opposed to flying metal stegodons?

This is barley a 'counts as' army in my opinion... having a flying skimmer tank being replaced by a walking organic monster sounds like a 'proxy' to me.

As for the jetbikes, I would use flying bases that come with jetbikes. As for the falcons, you will need to fill in the size of the falcon footprint in order to be fair to opponents, shooting, armorfacings and assaulting. You may want to even build the base to be 'falcon-shaped' to represent the edges of the true tank to be fair to opponents.

Overall I would not be excited to play against this at an event because this sounds like those horrible 'counts as' armies that are great to look at but terrible to play against.

In a game in which flying and jumping really high use the same mechanics, there's no problem with having 'jetbikes' that actually run and jump, IMO.

And the fluff has presented us with large dinosaur-like creatures tough enough to battle with titans...

The 'Exodites as Jetbiker army' list is quite a common one.
