This is a potential list I may run in the school league thing as it has been expanded


HQ:

PCS: 4xSniper Rifles.70pts


Troops:

Platoon
PCS: 4xFlamers.50pts

Infantry Squad: GL, Melta bombs.60pts }to be run as a blob squad
Infantry Squad: GL, Commissar. 90pts }to be run as a blob squad

Infantry Squad: Flamer, Lascannon. 75pts

Penal legion: 80pts

Heavy Support:

2x Griffon. 150pts


TOTAL:575pts

At this point I have 25pts to spare so what should I do with it as I am not used to games this small or building lists with Infantry Platoons so any help would be much appreciated.


Idea for the army, the penal legion squad can camp on the home objective and the PCS can give orders to either the Lascannon Squad or the legionnaires and the griffons give a nice punch at this level I think. The blob Squad and the Lascannon Squad can join together to give less KP in an annihilation match. the sniper Rifles were chosen to pin squads that may threaten the blob and to keep them cheap.

not all that bad, really, assuming you're outflanking the criminals. The only thing that needs to change is your CCS. Drop 2 flamers on the PCS and all 4 sniper rifles and turn those 30 points into 3 meltaguns or a lascannon.

the infantry squad with flamer and lascannon is a bad idea as well. autocannons are usually good in squads but you still wouldnt want to pair that up with a flamer

personally at 650 id have:

ccs with melta

veterens 2 melta chimera
veterens 2 melta chimera

2 griffon
2 hydra

plenty of fire power and meltas can be fired from inside chimeras if hydras cant take it down i.e landraider but not much that 8 twinlinked strength 7 shots cant take down.

Yes, but he's not trying to make a 650 point leafblower, he's trying to make a 650 point infantry+artillery list.

As for the squad hanging back, i don't really like it either, but I don't see much else you can do with it. Furthermore, for how poorly the squad is armed, I can't really imagine a way to do it better.

where does it say no leafblower?
and lets be honest even leafblower has its weaknesses.
if not leafblower drop the chimeras and change back to platoons but keep hydra/gryphon combo, it works well together.

the problem with the hydra/griffon list is that it's illegal, I forgot to post some of the rules

It is standard manditory FOC but there are restrictions such as:
1 elites choice
1 fast attack OR heavy support choice

At any rate would this be a better list

with this list I have 80/75pts to spare so with this I could buy a couple of power swords and a priest. Or another addition to the Platoon in the form of a HWS or another infantry squad so is this a better list for what I have chosen

Sure.

in the CCS, a platoon standard is only useful for close combat officer squads who don't have a commissar. Either get the regimental standard, or, in this case the better option, the extra meltagun.

Also, I'd peel off one of those flamers from the PCS to give to one of the PISs.

with those restrictions the list looks ok but guard are not good on foot so consider chimeras also for the elite choice consider marbo, he is an awesome surprise deepstriking mid game and can be a real game turner.
also why are you leaning towards platoons instead of vets? bs4 is a real plus when you have no armoured transport and need to make each shot count.
at 650 guard should be the most armoured army out there not troop heavy, i love guard but lets be honest as troops they just die to easily.

if you cant have chimeras and no vets go heavy troops(horde style) you can even combine the squads to make a 20 20 10 list:

ccs 4 melta
marbo
pcs 4 melta
squad flamer
squad flamer
squad flamer
squad flamer
squad flamer
2 griffon
=650

would using the 80pts left over be worth it to buy a 3 PW's for the blob squad, removing a flamer from the PCS and buying another Infantry Squad and GL for the for the blob. that would bring me to the limit of the points, I think
