OK, this is probably a dumb question, but I have never seen it done before so I thought I'd ask.

Broadsides must be equipped with a support system.

They can each take a target lock.

The target lock allows the model equipped with it to fire at a different target than the rest of its unit.

So, if all three suits have a target lock, can they then fire at three different targets?

I see nothing preventing it, and in the mech heavy meta today, being able to put 9 strength 10, ap 1 twin linked shots on 9 different targets would be extremely useful.

So, I saw nothing in the FAQ or rulebook prohibiting this, but I am not a Tau expert so I may have missed it.

If you are looking to spread your fire, this Broadside Team loadout is probably the most efficient:

-XV88 Team Leader w/ Targeting Array, HW Target Lock, 2 Shield Drones
-XV88 w/ Targeting Array
-XV88 w/ Target Lock

Since one of the models can still do the "units" shooting you only need 2 target locks in a squad of 3. The other 2 target lock-equipped suits can then fire at individual targets and the third suit at the "units" target.

And yes, that is definately how it is done.

Ah yes, excellent point. Thanks for pointing that out.

Man, I wonder why the guys in my local don't do that, it makes broadsides so much better in this edition. Plus with true LOS they can see the entire board in many cases.

My one critique to that load out is that taking gun drones instead of shield drones would be cheaper and as the unit will most likely be in cover, they will still get the 4+

Thanks again Warboss Tufgrim.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
except for the fact that the shield drone gets the toughness and save of the Suit, which makes them much more resilient. I retract my gun drone comment.

That is a good set up.

Don't worry Reece, I'm trying to bring 9 broadsides to the So Cal Smackdown.

It isn't as hard to hide things from broadsides as you're making it out to be, and it's real bad if any of those squads get caught by anything with a fist, but they're still pretty effective against mech as you say, especially if they get to go first. We'll see.

Wow Tufgrim! Thats an excellent point, I never noticed that! I wonder how many tau players do, not many I assume.

I have developed a liking for tau, I would play them for the challenge because they are low tier, but I see them as still a huge threat. They can wreck a guard tank column better than any other race I dare say. And wound on a 2+ to t3 pulse rifles that also pass the armour of 2 of the races basic infantry NOT BAD.

(OT: Why does dakka say I spelt armour wrong? Does USA/UK spell it armor?)

The USA does, the UK spells it correctly.

@Warboss Tufgrim

I believe a more efficient setup would be

1 Broadside Drone Controller 2x Shield Drones
2 Broadsides Target Lock

250 points on the nose, the targeting arrays are not super efficient on Broadsides although useful

wow, got to admit this thought never occured in my mind. really like the idea of having 2 groups of 3. mech guard beware! I can pop 6 chimeras a turn! (and then a bassie lands its mark on top on me )

As I've found out it helps tremendously when splitting fire, because you only have a single shot to affect your target. Because of that you don't want to be screwed by bad dice and the TA really helps bringing the odds in your favour.

That being said I'm intrigued by the setup you just described. It's so cheap! I'll have to try that out some time.

OT here in the states we streamline everything, that why it is armor, not armour, color not colour etc :-) more efficient that way!
