[img]So this is my first post.
I just felt that if I was going to comment on the armies of others, I should at least submit my own to be commented on as well.
The theme I was going for was an IG army who's supply line isn't always what it should be, due to long occupations well behind the enemy front. Often they would have to reclaim fallen equiptment and vehicles, even PDF, to get them through to the next handover with friendly forces. Hence, a lot of Denb Mud wash has been used to "dirty everything up", (inspired by the scene in "Saving Private Ryan, when Vin Diesel bought the farm in the rain and mud). Maybe not the most original concept out there, but it justifies what I put in my army, so it is what it is.
Feel free to give me your honest critiques, bad or good. I am not overly sensitive or easily offended. My painting is no where near showcase stuff, but I am far better now than I was when I first got into all of this. Unfortunately what I have'nt developed is more patience, so some of the stuff I have done has been painted over my old colour scheme without having been stripped. (Shame on me...)[img].

First in Last out is a common Recce Squadron saying so I just threw it on there. This Command Chimera is the only one that has the units name on it.

I made this Duo-Track for the last gaurd army list , when rough terrain mods mattered. I just decided to leave it as is and make it my command vehicle.

TY Warboss. Yeah, I didn't like my First 3 Attmepts at making a NOrk, but I am pretty happy with this one..
Okay, next....
Harker, Straken and the Lord Commissar, everyone has scene these in a gaurd list, so mine won't be that different.
What I am somewhat proud of is my take on Sly Marbe, (renamed "Variable", ref; Clear and Present Danger, Defoe). I made him and immiediately ditched the original from my army.
I decided that the "Hockey" mask would be a re-occuring theme in this army, as a battle homour given to a choosen few.
My assasin's are more for my Witch Hunters army, but I liked them to , so I threw them in here. The Vonstryen model needed to be used, and my buddy picked me up the Infinti Hacker when I told him I could Make a Callidus out Her. Opinions? Acceptable or No?

I loved the new Sentinal kits , if only because of the positional legs, so i went and got three of them and had some fun. Yes there is an Ork arm under the middle one's rubble, a tribute of sorts to my friend Tony... The Other Sentinal is the Elysian Drop sentinal I half-heartedly tried to Up armour so I could give it the Plasma Cannon.

Following that is my Valkrie, with sniper lookout and My Vulture Gunship. These are attachments to the Ettrians for Insertion and extractions only, so i won't field them often.

This is taking a while to up load these, but I am going to try and push through.
The Commmand chimera is still in these shots, as well as my heavy bolter chimera.
I've thrown in my Salamander, even though I don't use it.
Its from my old armoured company, but i was proud of it , simply because I made the effort to build it myself, rather than order a Forge world kit. I was happy with it and wish I could field it in this army. Suggestions?
A while back, I was surfing Dakka Dakka and stumbled upon an IG player using Old Crow models and I decide I would do the same.
Laying around I had 2 Lazcannon Gun drones I had made some time back and low and behold they fit perfectly in the back of the scout cars.
The heavy bolter buggy was some thing I made a llong time ago and blew the dust offof it when I got the Old Crow models.

What would the Gaurd do without armour?
I devided my tanks into strategic groups; Assault ( 2X Punishers), Intimate Support ( MBT and Executioner conversion) and Firebase (tank hunter destroyer and conversion).
Sometimes I'll field the Earthshaker I got in a trade some time back.

With the exception of some WIPs and stuff I've ordered thats the Ettrians at this point.
I've thrown in a couple of my Witch Hunters Characters I like, while I wait for their new codex to hit (anyone know whne that is?)
Also, I have three Exterminator Tanks and an Artimus Pattern Hellhound I want to repaint to my Ettrian theme, but they already have too much old and crappy paint on them. Anyone got some good (and preferably easy) tips on how to go about this? I'd love to hear it!
Thanks to the guys who commented on this as i was chipping away at it over the last couple of hours!

you should probably ping one of the mods to move this over to the Painting and Modelling Blog forum as thats where people go to look at whole armies generally. this subforum is more for single figs and/or units. very nice work, though.

on an unrelated note, how many pieces does harker come in originally? i'm thinking about buying him to turn him into sly marbo but i don't know how the heavy bolter connects to his body.

Very, Very nice.

I was thinking, when you said "reclaim fallen equipment and vehicles", they where picking up any gun that still had ammo in it, xenos gun or not. It might not work with people who are WYSIWYG fanatics, but I would let it slide in a game. It might look cool to see two I.G. grunts with a uge'Shoota that "counts as" a heavy weapon team, or just a Big'burna from an Ork Boy.

Could go a long way with the concept of I.G. picking up any "fallen equipment", but there would be such a thing as too far I think. I really dont think any IG Grunt would use one of those Ork guns that shoots snotlings through rips in the warp, not sure what those are called. Nor would a Grunt try to drive a Killa-kan. Those sort of things would be too far, and would defy even the fluff. But an anti-tank mine is an anti-tank mine, and a gun is a gun. A man's got to do what a man's got to do.

I noticed a Croot warrior in one of the shots. (Vet3 Demolition) What is his story? Did he join them for the greater good?

How do I move this forum?
Harker comes in three pieces; main body, and bolter with right forearm and hand and the left hand. The third piece is just a machette in scabbard.

Psyker 9er.
Funny you ask that.
When my buddy said I better explain i, I did come up with a bit of a back storey for him.
The little red head with the revolver in that same pic is the Vetrern Sgts last living Daughter. The Kroot is loyal to the both of them, so long as it gets to eat what it kills in battle. This often puts it at odds with much of the Ettrians, but it is an excellent tracker and worth a dozen Auspexes in the end....
Does that work for ya?

Perfectly, he has earned his rightful place on the battlefield/tabletop. Again, just be weary of players who are WYSIWYG BRB Thumpers. I am more of a relaxed gammer myself. But now I am just curious about the back story of how they gained his loyalty in the first place.

Hmmmm, I'll work on that. The " they make sure he's got plenty to eat" excuse does'nt do it justice. Maybe it just has a soft spot for her with no logical explaination....better bring in an Inquisitor.

hmm... then my plans might be possible. i had wanted to turn him cadian; i'll have to google his name for bits pics. as for moving the forum, you can click on the little button on the top right of your first post with the exclamation point. it's generally used to alert mods to bad things but if you're the OP (original poster), you can simply ask them to move the thread if you want. no big deal, either way.

This is a vary disparate and weird looking army you've got here. The painting quality ranges from kinda rough to rather good, and you've got a really diverse collection of guys. Reminds me of some of my early armies! My biggest suggestion would be to have one unified basing theme. This will keep the army consistent and make them look like one big fighting force on the table.

Interesting work here - I like it!

Yeah, I agree that the painting is kind of across the map on my army. I started it a while back, repainted some of it and just carried on with new stuff. Between the beginning and now, I've picked up a few tips and ideas and I guess it makes some models stand above others. Ah well, its still fun to chip away at. Maybe if I keep getting tips and inspiration from you guys, I'll close the lid on this army one day and make a newer one where the standard is all the same.
The bases are just one of those things I have'nt gotten around to wanting to do. Mainly because when I take on a model, I just want to paint and field it ASAP. But I wish I could go back to the beginning and give my head a shake. From what I've seen on this sight alone, the bases can be as fun to build and paint as the model itself.
I wonder, do you think it would be too late to remove the infantry from their bases and start from there? Any tips or ideas for approaching that?

May I ask where you got the Earthshaker kit from? I want to do a WWI themed IG army and want a whole bunch of those guns with the big metal braces bolted into the floor

Edit: Just saw you got it in a trade, nevermind

RE the re-basing - a new blade in your stanley knife should cut through the boot/glue/base join fairly easily, and a good base can really set your model up well, so go for it

Yeah , I was hoping to hear an answer like that. Easy is my choosen path. So I will start to try to re-base my models, soon. Hope it works. If I notice a huge difference, I'll post.
The Earth shaker Platform is a Forge World kit my buddy had. He also ordered the Hydra kit, which I got from him as well and just recently traded out. We found that when you have both kits the Earthshaker can be swapped out of its platform and replaced by the Hydra turret, giving you three Heavy support options instead of two. It costs 75 points to field the earthshaker, but has a low armour value, (10 , I think, I don't have the book in front of me). If you get one, beware of the deepstrikers!

I was just wondering if you stole it from a toy or something. Don't really want to get stuff from forgeworld, so I guess I will have to make a platform out of bits and pieces and cast it - I have a whole bunch of knackered old basilisks on order from e-bay which will be stripped of their guns and turned into terrain or something (possibly back into chimeras, who knows ).

Anyway, I love the look of your tanks - the netting works very well with the paint scheme you are using, and the turret mods look pretty effective too.

Yeah, now that I think on it, those platforms will be pretty easy to make out of plasticard. Good luck.

Wow, that's a lot of pictures for one sitting! Where to start?

It's awesome to see an army with so much attention paid to the infantry - every unit seems to have loads of kitbashes, green stuff hats and features as well as all the tattoos and facial hair. It really characterises all the different models, which is hard to do with IG! I really like all the older models you have scattered around as well - did you get those when they came out, or were they picked up in trades and the like?

I particularly like the ghillie suits on the snipers, and the fact that you've hidden the last chancers throughout your squads, as well as the characterful touches like the kroot bodyguard. As some people have already said, there's a wide range on the painting, but some of (what I'm assuming is ) the latest stuff is ace. With some cohesive basing (Silver's advice totally works, byw, it's really easy to do), this will be one hell of a force to face. Great work!

I'd love to see whatever else you come out with, and I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread
