I have a DoC army that was in WHFB. I'm not all that interested in WHFB 8th at the moment, but I don't necessarily want to rebase my army, specifically my greater demons, do people really care a whole lot if I were to use a DoC army in 40k on square bases? I don't see any big difference, but I could be missing something (it's been a while since I've dabbled in 40k). Please let me know how people feel.

Thanks

Take it up to your FLGS and see how they feel, since you'll be playing them more than us. >.>

What he said.

I personally don't see any problem with it. I think the people at your FLGS should be okay with it if they're nice, or maybe they're not or maybe the square bases against circular change something drastically that you'd have to do some serious math to find. Just hope for the first.

I don;t know exactly what is based on what, but if everything that would be on 25mm round is on 25mm square, I'd definitely play you. 25mm Squares are slightly larger, meaning blast templates can clip more more bases.

I got no problems with it.

Rules-wise, there is no issue with it. So long as everything is based on the base it is supposed to be on, you're good to go.

There is no 'round base' requirement for 40K. Just the requirement to base models on the base they come with.

Yup, completely fine. Anyone saying otherwise is not following Da Roolz!

Probably work

Absolutely not! An errant square killed my father! I hate them!

Yeah, it's cool. The avatar is on a square base. I think oldschool bikes are on rectangular bases. Square base = legal (as long as it's the one that came with the model)

If you leave the models on the bases they came with, you're following the actual rules of Warhammer 40k, if you rebase them then it's one of those 'opponent's permission' deals. Not only is it OK to leave them on their original bases, it's the only way to strictly follow the game rules. Some people may have a problem playing by the actual rules of the game, but people here won't be able to tell you if your local group ignores the game rules.

With Daemons I use both bases for most models, I put what ever is smaller on the model and use magnets to get them to stick to the other base for the other system. With TLOS they may be some issues but I've never had it yet.

I'd play you though with no concerns.

Yeah old school bikes were on rectangles, so what's wrong with the squares. I'd definitely play against you. The base thing doesn't borther me personally, except maybe when working out templates and that sort of thing, but you would be at the slightest disadvantage, not your opponent.

Yeah I agree that there should be no problems with square bases.

The other way might cause a problem though there are some things in fantasy that might bet a little messed up by using round bases, but the other way should be fine.

If there were any rules or math issues it would be easy to solve by just measuring from the centre of the base and adding the radius of the models typical base to it.

Im surprised with the uproar of agreement here.

First of all, of course Id play you.

Second of all, Insanik is right. Play them with the bases supplied. But that does not mean WHFB daemons are 40k daemons. A rules lawyer could come and say because their on bases from WHFB, they are not 40k units. thatd be very TFG but hey, I wouldnt disagree if at a tournament someone said that guy cant play hes got square bases on whats supposed to be circular.

None the less, take it up with your FLGS.

If that happens then all you need to do is get some round bases and blue tac them to the bottom of your square bases. Then no one can say anything.

Someone claiming to be a rules lawyer might attempt to make such a statement, but they'd be doing so with no ground from which to argue. First off, the rulebook never says that the bases must be round. And secondly, for over half of the history of the game, square bases have mixed with round bases.

You see, the 3rd edition 40K rulebook has pictures of daemons on square bases in it. Realms of Chaos (both volumes), Codex: Chaos, and Codex: Chaos Space Marines (the first one) all depict daemon models on square bases. That first Codex: Chaos Space Marines, published in 1999, is actually quite nice because only a single one of the daemons in that book is on a round base. Out of eleven pages worth of photos showing daemon models, only one single daemon model is on a round base. The other sixty or so models are all on square or rectangular bases.

It's okay if your misinformed, we'll forgive you because it probably just means that you're younger than some of my miniatures.
