I swapped my Marine army for an Ork army (including a Trukk) a while ago and purchased a couple of things and another Trukk. The Trukk I received in the swap was a converted Rhino so I started thinking about purchasing another Trukk but then I thought that, if I could pull it off, a different converted vehicle would be cool.

I liked the idea of a battered and pock-marked skimmer humming along while speed-crazed Orks clung on firing shootas. So I thought about getting a Devilfish.
I was about to buy one when there was a celebration at my FLGS for the release of Skull Pass and there was an auction for models from the back of the shop. There was a battered Fire Prism on auction there and I won it.

So I was wondering weather or not to keep the turret, what colours to paint it, how much weathering to apply ect.

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

It's a great idea. A Trukk is open topped, so I would lose the turret and cut out the circle area on top of the hull and put a stand under there so a few Oyz can bepoking thei heads out when it is transporting the,. And lose the canopy for the pilot, much better to have a hling Ork pilot sticking out the top. Put some wooden ralings for the Boyz to hang onto.

Or keep the turret andue it as a Looted Wagon

Well, you could just get a Falcon if the kit is cheaper. You'll need to really Ork it up though!

Maybe remove one engine, to justify that it can no longer hover properly and so counts as a land vehicle.

Opening the top makes sense but would be a lot of work - alternatively maybe add an open topped passenger compartment welded/bolted on top, or even two small compartments over the front drone frames?

Add railing around the "wings" so that people can stand on them? Maybe have some grots hanging on for dear life as the speed threatens to throw them off the side?

Put the big shoota where the turret was - make a little platform/corpola (sp) for it?

One of my friends plays Orks, he has a set formula for his looted items:

1. Strip paint
2. Remove propulsion system (be it grav, legs etc.)
3. Tonka treads.
4. Repaint

He ork-ified all sorts with this. We've got a Monolith rolling round on these treads and ram. It makes me feel dirty to think how he'd butcher a Titan or something, but I guess that's Orks...

Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes...

I like this - even simpler and orkier than a separate passenger compartment. Another option would be a lightly armoured wall/barricade around the wing edges

I'm working on cutting out the turret's base now.
I'n not sure weather to make the Trukk a skimmer or land-based.

@Brother SRM
I have already got the model.

@SageHeart
I don't possess a very good camera but I'll try if you're keen.

I have never converted a vehicle before now so any more advice would be appreciated.
Also any pictures of Orky konversions that you have done would likewise be appreciated.

When orks loot vehicles, they're not too fancy about it, they just pull out the welding torch and the power drill and see what happens, with only a vague idea of what they're building. In modelling terms, that's good news - make the basic shapes from plasticard and bits from other vehicles and scenery, feel free to bend and cut to make bits the right size, then add lots of fake rivets and bolts to make it look sturdy.

Make me ten!

I'm not overly (at all) familiar with the Fire Prism, but I guess I can give some thoughts, however misplaced...

I would try to keep the dimensions roughly the same, if possible. (Though rule of cool would trump this)

I would make a decision to work from a Trukk base up (cut up Fire Prism and add as appropriate) or the Fire Prism down (gut it, keeping the basic shape/structure, and Orkify it from there)

I would have no issues with keeping it as a "skimma" (I even have a "flying" Trukk myself - though just an Orky one going at speed...)

If it was mine, I would probably gut, replacing the top with an open top transport capacity. I'm currently working on incorporating a Trukk engine into a Predator chassis - so that may or may not be a goer. If you make the transport area forwards (perhaps between the two wings), you could put the driver, gunner and engine up the back....

Out of random thoughts

^^^ Good ideas, it'll look great if you crack the top open and add an Orkified interior, as if they've used the skimmer as a base for a transport but added their own deck to ride on and shoot from.

Not bad, I'd think about building some kind of enclosure around the open ramp up to the crows nest on top of the main cabin, and also a ladder to let people climb up there.

May also want to orkify the engines - add larger more powerful intakes, afterburners, etc.

I will be orkifying the engines and either replacing one completly or just modifying it.
As for a crows-nest, I think thats quite a good idea and will try it out.
Thanks for the advice.

That big open area between the front 'prongs' is crying out to be filled with a passenger compartment - combined with the small rear compartment, that will more believably carry 10 boyz, and look cool.

I would leave the front area open - sealing it up changes the basic design and look of the vehicle too much (IMO).

Though perhaps some kind of barbed wire stretched out between the wings to chop people up who are driven over (like the giant elephants with the wire/spikes between their tusks in LOTR) might be cool.

The front gap would be a perfect spot to mount a spikey Death Rolla if the model was going to count as a battlewagon

It's a bit small for a battlewagon but the barbed wire seams good.
Ill try it.

that thing is looking fantastic so far . You should try getting a looted vehicle from every faction into your army, would be a pretty cool theme

Every faction is a bit much right now but I could use Dark Eldar jetbikes as warbikers or deffkopters.
