This was a project I started two years ago. This was for the Modular City Table... a regular 40k table game. The smaller buildings came out really well, so we just kept using those. Then I was invited to present the Apoc tables for the DaBoyz Tourney in Rochester, in November. That motivated me to finish everything I had originally invisioned and started with the boards. All of the individual sets of six boards (each six made a regular game table, now coming together to make one cohesive Apoc table), received the same surface treatment. It made more sense to make one big table that could be split up, rather than several small tables that might-kind-of go together.

So anyway, this last, largest building, I didn't know what direction to take it in, so it sat in it's tote and forgotten about. Only two walls were finished and didn't know how to wrap up the other damaged side. Then last month at a club/store terrain-building day (Jupiter Games), I dragged it out so I could stare at it. Then, while explaining what I had been trying to do with it two years ago, I had the old "lightbulb" moment! I could "see" what it needed to be complete. Heh, it needed an add-on to complete the far corner.. and a bell tower. So simple, of course, right?! Started knocking it out right there... and with that momentum, completed it in under a week. Wh00t!! So here she is!

Note: The roof to the main hall and the rectory both come off so you can get to the inside levels.

Note: I might mess this area up a little with dirty footprints in the future. Maybe some pews stacked in the corner, rescued artwork and such...

Note: Damn... just noticed the speakers need some screen to close up the cup.

Beautiful. I agree about screens on the speakers, since I wouldn't have realized what they were if you hadn't mentioned it. I also agree with you messing up the floor (just a bit, to make it less patterned looking, but not too much).

Overall though it's superbly painted and both aesthetically pleasing, and also tactically functional (several unique levels with unique viewpoints, multiple entrances, and an open, accessible interior with space for models).

Brilliant.

That is the kind of terrain I aspire to create in the future. Beautifully done, you should be very proud of the work that you put into this piece. I am sure it will be a joy to play with.

Incredible, some of the shots from 'ground level' really look like an actual ruined building.

Very nice, what material did you use for the wall of the bell tower?

The tower itself is made from 1/4" foamcore sheet... I couldn't see using up 24 wall plates for this. Besides, you don't want people climbing up into your belltower now do we?! It was then covered in 1/24 Scale Doll House Floor Tiles vinly sheet:

...I put COD girders at the floor levels to tie it in visually. Then it received the same treatment of texture and color as the rest of the building (something like six layers of color and wash, etc.).

Brilliant! You could even have small skirmish games within it itself, using like 250 points games in the basillica.

That would be cool, like Inquisitor... floor-to-floor fighting. Hmmm, thinking about it, that's what my new Cathedral could be used for.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

To break up the floor a bit, how about a dead priest or two? Have 'em slumped up against a wall or somethin.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

Oo, ooo, bodycount! That's what I was missing!

There is a leg in one of the debris piles... but maybe I need to have something more obvious. I'll see if I can heat up a dude and slump him over something.
