This thread is for informational purposes concerning the Dakka member "Clarity" and his ebay alias "davidbarrow12".

4 days ago now, I posted a large army on ebay with a "Buy-it-now" option. Almost immediately (within the hour) it was purchased by "davidbarrow12". He had no feedback score, so I was immediately apprehensive, since it was an over-400-dollar auction. A little while later, he posted a PM to me here on dakka, under the name Clarity, saying:

Hey, I purchased your army on ebay, I completely didn't see that you only ship to the u.s I am so sorry, I'd still love to purchase it if your ok with shipping to Canada, since i'm at school at Ottawa U, i didnt think about it at all.

To which I replied:

Canada is ok by me mate, I'm just glad you are communicating with me! I was a bit apprehensive when a brand-new user bought my auction... but knowing you're a fellow dakkite helps ease my apprehension a bit. I'll ship it out this week sometime after I get the payment.

I got this reply back:

No that's not even my normal ebay account, I just made it because ebay screwed me over and some scammer said they never recieved my item, when they're a first time buyer based in brazil and i have 100% positive feedback, anyways my account was shut down untill it's resolved, screwing me since I can't bid or ship on items till it's resolved, so I saw you were on dakka and I love your army and paintjob, (btw what would you charge to finish it?) And just thought we can work this out sans ebay. or if you feel more comfortable then i'll just pay you through my ebay account. It's really your call man.

This was my reply:

I'm flattered that you'd like me to finish it, but really at this point in my life I cannot. I have 2 young children (one of which turns 1 year old next friday, thus selling this for presents for her!) so I am desperately short of time. I'd really just prefer payment through ebay, since I already was charged to post it anyway. I can give you instructions on how to do it (I have a tutorial on my blog, but most of them are nearly finished anyway) and a paint list, but its the time I can't spare. Sooner rather than later is best for me, since I have to somehow try to find a bunch of "Blue's Clues" party decorations before saturday! Lol.

I never received a reply. A few days later, my Automatic Unpaid Item Assistant through ebay informed me he is no longer a registered member of ebay. I never received payment, nor an explanation, and it cost me 6 dollars to relist the auction, and I am currently attempting to gain the seller's fees back (somewhere in the area of 40 dollars, or 10 percent the auction price).

I just wanted to state the facts. If you deal with this user in the future, be wary.

On top of that, I really don't appreciate you ranting about our transaction on dakka, when I have a perfectly fine rep here, and I went out of my way to message you on here, to ease your mind concerning the transaction, especially when this transaction has nothing to do with dakka, and was entirely based on ebay. Taking a shot at me on another website you didn't even know I was a part of untill I took the liberty and courtesy of messaging you is uncalled for and I do not respect this at all since you did not even try to ask what happened before posting a transaction report. As noted in the message I sent you, ebay screwed me over and since this all took place in a matter of 2 days I didn;t have time to check ebay and respond to your messages as I work 50 hours a week. If you want me too, I can post the exact reason that ebay messed over my account, and when I origionally saw this I was going to offer to immediately send money through paypal anyways since it couldnt be completed through ebay. Next time please contact me as there was no need to make this public.

Thanks,

That was hardly a rant. As I said in my original post, I was merely stating the facts.

18 posts does not a "good" reputation make. This will likely get locked as it wasn't a transaction from dakka. Either way, cheap shot boning a guy out of his sellers fees.

@ Aerethan - while it isn't on dakka, the ebay auction itself was in relation to an ebay link posted on dakka and the other party found the item via dakka.

But it could be closed simply to prevent arguements.

While this is not my issue - I can see why the OP is upset.

There would be no reason for ebay to shutdown a new account automatically or even manually on a new buying ebay account.

Which could lead that the paying ebay account was intentionally self shutdown.
Because ebay almost 100% never bans any buying new account - unless certain restrictions.
They do ban certain other types of accounts but I doubt the involved party was doing anything amongst that nature.

Though with no ebay account, I don't think its possible for one to even read messages, as claimed.

"i don't have time for my financial commitments" is not a valid argument.

Backing out on a $400 auction is NOT cool, regardless of reason.

Regardless of his reasoning, I am out over 50 bucks in fees. I felt this warranted warning others who might deal with him on Dakka.

This is NOT a mudslinging contest, nor a flame war, but simply an informational post on what transpired during our transaction. I posted it merely as a warning to others to proceed with caution when dealing with him.

Just do the typical unpaying bidder stuff and you'll get a refund on the fees. Lots of eBay experience on this end.

How are you "out over 50$ in fees" if it was all though ebay... I am an avid ebay user, and my cousin is a power seller, both of us have had plenty of disputed items... one thing we both know is that

While it is appreciated that you are informing Dakka of the integrity of the user in question (Hell, thats the point of 50% of transaction reports), don't over-dramatize or victimize yourself when you should be completely in the clear in terms of "bs sellers fees"...

Like I said, I had no idea eBay cancelled my account and when I realized they did I was still going to offer to transfer money through paypal. There was no problem with financial ommitmebts I am simply stating that I did not check my account for a period of two days, which I don't find unreasonable as there was no 2 day limit on paying on the eBay auction. I feel like this has been handled extremely poorly and I truly regret this, since any "50 dollar fees" even though I don't understand how fees could amount that high, and I also don't appreciate you cutting and pasting parts of the email I sent you, as that is extremely distasteful.

its not distastful when he is providing information to those of us here on Dakka. Best course is to resolve this in pm's post the resolution and have this thread locked.

If his first account was shut down under suspicious circumstances (which is how it reads from here) then opening a new account is a violation of Ebay's policies and they would immediately shut down any account linked to the IP or name of the person the first account belonged to.

You sir, are a liar. I will have no further correspondence with you.

1) It was longer than 2 days. Ebay automatically opens a non-payment case after 4 days have passed from the auction's end.

2) I sent you multiple reminders of when the 4-day limit was coming up: 5 (YES, FIVE) ebay invoices and 1 PM on dakka. I received no response whatsoever.

3) I did not "cut and paste parts of the email", I took them in their entirety.

Don't try to make this out to look like you are innocent. I clearly stated IN MY AUCTION LISTING that I myself expected payment within 72 hours of the auction's end. If you did not read that, then it is your fault. It is your obligation as the bidder to read the entire ad and make sure you agree to all the conditions stated in the listing before submitting your bid.

Yes, I will likely get those fees back. However, since ebay has already automatically withdrawn those fees from my bank account, I will be late paying my phone bill, accruing yet more charges. I still have yet to find decorations for my daughter's 1st birthday party, which is the primary reason I posted the add LAST FRIDAY in the first place. I expected for the money to be in the account by this time, so I could buy my daughter the things she deserves. Thus the reason I had the listing set for 3 days, as opposed to 7 days. You cost me not only monetary loss, but the loss of time that cannot be recovered, time that I needed to have the money deposited into my bank account so I could buy my daughter her decorations.

It was a MAJOR inconvienience to me, because of simple negligence on your part to read the listing and to fufill your financial obligations (yes, obligation, because when you submit a bid to ebay it is a binding contract). I thought other people deserved to know just how our transaction went, so they would know what they were getting into.

It all depends on when this all transpired, how long since it happened and whether Clarity did end up apologizing and buying the item.

Personally? If Clarity paid with paypal and still bought the item? More power to him. Otherwise, as 'unfair' as Clarity believes the OP is being, he is proving the OP right by not following through with the transaction.

They WILL shut down any accounts you try to open from the same IP address if your original account is suspended or terminated at the moment.

Please lock this thread as i see it going nowhere, what's done is done, and if anyone apparently ever has the confidence to trade with me, I don't mind shipping / paying within 24 hours, it's unfortunate circumstances lead this to be such an negative experience. If you messages me privately, I could have transferred you money directly within 5 minutes if me actually reading the message, which I still can do, but I have no doubt you don't want to sell it to me anymore since youve relisted it.

Yep i agree with Fox on this , lots of listing have binding contract on how soon they expect payment. Most of the time they also state "if you for what ever reason you cannot meet the conditions , simply , do-not-bid"

I DID message you privately. Many times. But you're right, I don't want to sell it to you now since I can no longer trust you to follow through.

Mods, feel free to lock as this will have no meaningful resolution. I already achieved what I set out to by posting this report: to inform other users.
