I can't find the rules for the Arrow IV missilie artillery in the Total Warfare or TechManual books.

Did Classic BattleTech format do away with artillery? Are the Long Tom and Sniper artillery pieces gone as well? I used to love mounting two Arrow IV's in a BattleMech like an Archer. In fact, I think there was an official version of the Archer with two Arrow IV's.

Why were they left out of two of the most important Classic BattleTech books?

According to Sarna.net, the rules for Arrow IV Artillery seem to be located in Tactical Operations, pages 181, 184, and 404. It's also in the old 1989 version of Technical Readout: 3050.

Tactical Operations is probably your best bet though.

They basicly took artillery out of the core rules system, which IIRC represent tourney level rules. In this regard, I agree that Arrow/all artillery is not implimented well for a tourney rules set.

However, that is also because i believe artillery is not implimented well at all to begin with. They did improve distance and flight times, but arty is still a ponderously cumbersome weapon, even with TAG, thanks to fairly odd flight times and map plotting.

Also, the game effect of artillery is vastly different from the fiction effect of it.

Artillery can be useful, but usually only in scenarios and only if someone takes a TON of it. If you're only getting two or three tubes then you're just wasting your BV.
